  10. 1) Take some thin paper and charcoal with you when you go to a cemetery. This way you can get a rubbing of any family stone you come across 2) Ask at the office of a cemetery if you can get a copy of their map of the cemetery, then you can put a mark on the map exactly where family graves are. 3) If you find yourself in a location with a family cemetery but are unable to find it, you can check with the funeral homes in the area or with real estate agents and they may be able to point you in the right direction. 4) Write down or record on tape all the stories you remember about relatives. 5) Take photos of all the relatives that are still living. If they live too far away ask them if they have any pictures you could have. 6) When going through old photos, mark on the back of the photo a small number in one of the corners and in a seperate book list the phots by number and all information you can about them. 7) Organize your materials early. It will help when you are searching for one of the first pieces of paper at a later date.

  21. In Flanders Field By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place, and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
