Tips on using a dutch oven outdoors?

Recommended Posts

Today I purchased a 10 qt. cast iron dutch oven with short stubby legs and also a 4 qt. with 1" legs. I got a tripod too. All at a good price. Since the weather is beginning to cool down and finances are tight I've been thinking of ways to do fun things with my family - I think cooking over a campfire out in the backyard would be wonderful! But there's only one problem: I know nothing about how to use a dutch oven outdoors.

If anyone here has experience doing this or if you have a good link giving step-by-step how-tos - do holler my way and I'll holler back

Baking...

there are several ways to bake outside.

Have a BBQ with a lid? you use it like you would a wood cook stove. I have made pizza, bread and pie.

Of course the most used is a Dutch Oven.
