jeffiner
DIL has to dress like in the 50s for school. Other then then the poodle skirt, rhinestone eyeglasses and ribbon holding ponytail, my mind is drawing blanks. All the other teachers are wearing poodle skirts. How about wearing jeans (rolled up to where just below her knee?) a men's white shirt, sleeves rolled up, collar up, bobby socks and Keds. I'm making her a pearl (large pearls) necklace and lending her my charm bracelet. Weren't the skirts also long and tight? I just ask because I have a black tight skirt, if so could she wear it with the men's white shirt? I'm racking my brains trying to remember what I saw on American Bandstand, should had kept those magazines Link to comment

gardnmom
We used to wear what they refered to as a squaw skirt, which was a very full 3 tiered skirt, I made mine, they were bright colored and we wore as many as 3 can cans under them. I also wore penny loafers. Link to comment
jeffiner
Thanks Phatkat, I'm going to check that site out and see what I can find. Then go to our local re-sell shops and see if I can help Alicia put something together that says 50's!! You never know what you can put together from a resell shop! Link to comment

sandi227
I also remember body huggin sweaters and very bright (actually dark) red lipsticks. Rhinestone barretts. Scarves tied at the neck. Plastic bracelets.....well, actually, what I remember is what my sister got to wear. (she's 5 five years ahead of me) By the time I got to high-school, it was "minis and boots". Gee,we were really silly! Link to comment
gardnmom
And they sang songs like this one: Standing on the Corner Standing on the corner Watching all the girls go by Standing on the corner Watching all the girls go by Brother, you don't know a nicer occupation Matter of fact, neither do I Than standing on the corner Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Go by I'm a cat that got the cream Haven't got a girl, but I can dream Haven't got a girl, but I can wish So I take me down to Main Street and that's where I select my imaginary dish Standing on the corner Watching all the girls go by Standing on the corner Giving all the girls the eye Brother, if you've got a rich imagination Give it a whirl, give it a try Try standing on the corner Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Go by Saturday, and I'm so broke Haven't got a girl, and that's no joke Still I'm living like a millionaire When I take me down to Mainstreet and I review the harem parading for me there Standing on the corner Watching all the girls go by Standing on the corner Underneath the springtime sky Brother, you can't go to jail for what you're thinking Or for the woo look in your eye You're only standing on the corner Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Watching all the girls Go by - The Four Lads Link to comment
