Product Codes

Allen canning company product codes

Although there is no true expiration date on canned vegetables, for optimum flavor and freshness we do recommend consuming our vegetables within four years of production. However, as long as the can is not leaking or bulging, the product is safe to use. It is only when air can get to the product that spoilage can occur.

In order to determine the age of our canned goods, please refer to the five digit portion of the code printed on either the top or bottom of the can. The first numberal represents the year. The next three numerals represent the day of the year. And the last numeral represents the shift. For example, the code "00822" would read as follows: The "o" means this product was produced in 2000; the "082" means it was produced on the 82nd day; and the "2" means second shift. Therefore this can was produced on March 22, 2000.

Bush Brothers product codes

Thank you for contacting us. The way to read the production codes on the products we package is: the first character is the month (1-9 being Jan - Sept, O - October, N - November, and E - December), the next two are the date, and the forth character is the last digit of the year (0 is for 2000, 1 is for 2001, and 2 is 2002). The fifth character indicates the plant, which produced the product and has no significance when determining the shelf life. This is the date the product is produced and most of our products have a shelf life of 2 - 3 years from their production date. The exceptions are Chili Magic and Sauerkraut -- their shelf life is about 1 year after production.

All of our products are pre-cooked and can be safely eaten directly from the can.

Crisco product coding

The manufacturing code is the date the product was made. It might look something like this: 8122A

The first number represents the year it was made. For instance, the 8 in our example code means it was made in 1998. A number 7 would mean it was made in 1997, 6 in 1996, and so on.

The next three numbers represent the day of the year the product was made. In our example, the 122 (or one hundred and twenty second day) is May 1.

Any remaining numbers or letters are plant codes which have nothing to do with the date.

Seneca Food Product Codes

The code is a series of letters and numbers that has been stamped onto either the lid or the bottom of the can. With glass packed vegetables, it is on the lid. The first position is a letter and is the month in which it was manufactured: A=January, B=February, C=March, etc. The second position is the last digit of the year in which it was manufactured: 9=1999, 0-2000, 1=2001, etc
