teacozy
Look out Darlene! I finally bought me a real, live canner! I spent all last summer eye-ing the All Americans but could never make myself spend the $. With things being so unstable right now in the world, I decided that a canner from Wally-world was better than no canner at all. Can anyone recommend a good first canning project? Soup? Spaghetti sauce? Oh and apparently no one in my small town in NE Okla has heard about the rice shortage. Plenty on the shelves at the aforementioned Wally World. Link to comment
Darlene
teacozy, that is SO kewl! I'm really excited for y'all. I've been so obsessed with my garden that I haven't canned much lately, but I have a freezer full of meat that I really need to attend to. Regardless, your canner you got will serve you well for many, many years. As far as what to can first, what do y'all like? Soups are fun, spaghetti sauce cans great, you'll be swamped when harvest season comes in doing fruits and veggies. Personally, I'd pick something that I love, which for me is the marinara that I can...I do so much with that and it cans up so beautiful. Keep us posted! Link to comment
Violet
Good for you, teacozy ! Dried beans are an easy thing to do at first. Soup, too. Also some slice carrots or potatoes, anything to get you going. Just can what you have already, that is what I say. If you can soup, be sure to follow the safe guidelines here : http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/how/can_04/soups.html Link to comment
