Aint2nuts
My housekeeper, bless her heart, just brought me a mess of Okra, which I absolutely love pickled. Anyone know how I can easily pickle the okra? Link to comment
Stephanie
http://www.uga.edu/nchfp/how/can_06/pickled_dill_okra.html I have not done this, but it's the recipe from the USDA site, so tried, tested and true! Link to comment
Aint2nuts
Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for. I have saved the site too. M-F my housekeeper works at a farm, and right now the okra, lettuce, and peppers are being harvested. She brought me some of all of them, with the promise of more next week! WOO HOO! She also brought me about two cups of roasted peppers. Yummy! I told her if she could bring me half a bushel of okra I would pay her for it. Link to comment
Shandy
Growing or eating okra is against the law in Oregon, so I certainly don't know any recipes. Pickled okra? Incredible!! Link to comment
sassenach
Shurleen is that a blue law or something? I never heard of okra being outlawed~ Link to comment
Stephanie
Shurleen is prejudiced against OKRA, she doesn't like slickem' at all, she won't eat it fried, she won't eat it boiled, she won't eat it pickled, she won't eat it at all!! Personally I LOVE IT, Link to comment
sassenach
I first had fried okra fresh from the garden once I was married and had to eat the burnt offerings my ex(doofus)hubby's mom would make. As long as its fresh, breaded and fried and STILL hot, I like it. Once it is cold, it is indeed slimey. But pickled okra could be good stuff. Anyone eat some yet? Of course I only find grits palatable with garlic and cheese in it and I eat falafel burgers cold with ketchup..... Link to comment
Shandy
Blue Law? What's a Blue Law? The Oregon Supreme Court deemed okra unconstitutional. That's all I know. "She doesn't slickem' at all..." What in the world does THAT mean? Are you from the south or something? I'll bet you drink sugar in your iced tea, and lots of it. Link to comment
Aint2nuts
Pickled ambrosia, that is what Pickled Okra is. Food for God. it ISn"T SLIMEY!!! Not at all. It is crisp, spicy and delicious. Link to comment
