Wednesday
How long after the expiration date is it ok to use canned milk? Does it go bad to where it would be unsafe to use or does it just get funny colored and not the best tasting but still ok for baking or cooking with? I found a bunch of small cans in the back of the cupboard that expired in June 2009 and would like to use them if they're safe. Also I'd like to know because in a shtf situation everything will expire at some point and I don't really want to stock up on anything that would become unsafe quickly. Link to comment
Virginia
I have used some that was several months out of date. It looked the same to me, so I used it, and have several times. I have read that you should shake the cans every so often, and it will keep longer. When I am in the shelves looking for something else, and see the canned milk, I give them a shake and turn the cans over. I have had the sweetened condensed milk get very thick and dark, and I tossed that. But I have read that it is still good, too. Of course, if the ends are bulging on any can, do not use.
