bluegrassmom
I recently purchased a whole wheat sourdough starter. I've followed the directions with it to a T and yesterday made my first loaf of bread from it. Oh my gosh it'll pucker your lips! I know sourdough has a tang to it, but have mercy this is just not right. I really don't want to give up on this starter. Anyone have any ideas? Link to comment
CrabGrassAcres
Add extra water to the starter when you feed it. Let it settle and pour off the free liquid. If it is still too sour, put a teaspoon of baking soda in the dough. Link to comment

TractorDiva
And I can't get mine sour enough. Can you tell me what brand or where you bought your starter from? Link to comment

try2basunbeam
I was wondering... I have my sourdough starter on the counter in a 2 qt. jar. I've had it for maybe 3 weeks now. I had it in the fridge for part of the time, but followed the directions on the package to the "t". I've made bread with it twice. Nice and chewy. Hubby thinks it's great. The starter "clear liquid" is somewhat green in color. Is this normal? The white underneath is so cool when it bubbles up through the clear liquid. You can really tell it "alive". Also, if I made the starter with bread flour and then possibly fed it with all-purpose flour would that make a difference? I didn't label some of the flour I bought and I don't know if it is bread flour or all-purpose. Maybe that's why it's got that green tinge? I could take a picture of it... Thanks!
