No wonder English is difficult to learn:

We polish the Polish furniture.

He could lead if he would get the lead out.

A farm can produce produce.

The dump was so full it had to refuse refuse.

The soldier decided to desert in the desert.

The present is a good time to present the present.

The dove dove into the bushes.

I did not object to the object.

The insurance for the invalid was invalid.

The bandage was wound around the wound.

There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

They were too close to the door to close it.

The buck does funny things when the does are present.

They sent a sewer down to stitch the tear in the sewer line.

To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

After a number of Novocain injections, my jaw got number.

I shed a tear when I saw the tear in my clothes.

I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

I spent last evening evening out a pile of dirt.

My GS is going to love this one. He's been saying this for years. The American language is dumb!!!!! LOL Have you ever looked at the 'rules' of language? Bet you find there is as many exceptions to the rule as there are rules. We have trying to teach him spelling. :grinning-smiley-044:

America is a melting-pot..............................of languages as well as populations. :americanflag:

The spelling rules are applied to words according to their etymologies. Noah Webster spent 40+ years of his life researching words and standardizing their spellings. He is largely responsible for the differences that exist today between British and U.S. spelling.

So rejoice when teaching spelling. :eclipsee_Victoria::beat_deadhorse:

Having Fun on the Ben Schwartz Farm- No wonder English is so hard

Some of the boxes where to close to the door to close it tight.

Some days the kids have a row about which row to pick first.

One of the kids fell so a bandage was wound around the wound.

Being shorthanded Ben had to teach his sow to sow seeds.

The wind was so strong they even had trouble to wind up the hoses.

Plowing a number of rows so early in the Spring, Ben’s hands got number.

Martha shed a tear when she saw that Ben had another tear in his pants.

First thing to do this evening is start evening out that pile of dirt!

With all this going on they were still able to produce enough produce!
