Jeepers
Maybe not a warning but for sure a heads up! I was finishing up my pears tonight and had the first of 2 batches in the canner. As I was getting the second batch ready I started smelling gas. I looked and the fire had gone out. I thought I knew what happened but to make sure I turned it back on and watched it carefully. Sure enough, some of the water that was dripping from the lid ran down the canner into the fire and put it out. I actually saw it happen the second time. Lesson learned: anytime I'm canning stay in the kitchen and find something in there to do. Even if it's pulling up a kitchen chair and reading. And glance at the fire every once in awhile. Preferably before I smell gas! Quote Link to comment
Amishway Homesteaders
Good Advice! Same as when using a pressure canner NEVER leave the room you are canning in! To easy for something to happen - in seconds! I always do like you said - I pull up a stool and read a book, looking every few minutes to check on things or watch the gauge. Quote Link to comment
