MomM
Praise God he is ok! I would have had the same reaction. Once your heart went back to a normal beat, and you could breathe normally again, did you have a wonderful conversation? Link to comment
OldMaineBear
When Baby Bear went to Marine Corps Summer Camp we wrote to him on special stationary. I cut out his favorite comics and sports news along with other bits of local and national news. I photocopied it on one side of a sheet of paper and wrote my letters on the other side. He got our letters and bits of home in every envelope. His mail was passed around more than any other there. He said it helped a lot. His DI took me aside on Parent's Night and said that was the greatest and most inventive ideas he'd seen. He thanked me for it also. That graduation is such a moving event. When they first call them Marines even my eyes teared up. Give him a Semper Fi and a OOOOO-RaHHHHHH! Link to comment
Vlynn
My DS is a Marine. I don't think anyone else can understand that strange mixture of pride and terror that we military moms carry around every day. Link to comment
Karen
My sister is in panick mode right now. Her youngest son just decided to join the marines, he goes for his physical monday. They've already looked at his medical records and said he was healthy enough. At 6'3" and 200lbs, I'd say he is too. He wants to be in special ops. He's hoping to go into boot camp by Aug 20th. She's all nervous because they're still sending soldiers to Iraq. I've told her that at least we'll have each others shoulders to cry on when things get tough. I'm very proud of him for joining, yes there's pros and cons to joining at THIS time but it's what he wants to do. He's very willing to serve his country and wants to go that extra mile. My sister just pictures him with that stance that all Marines and former Marines have, she even said "once a Marine, always a Marine." Link to comment
mommato3boys
Well this first set of 12 weeks is almost over. We leave EARLY (2:30) in the morning (it is a 5 hour drive) headed to Parris Island. We have family day tomorrow from 10:00a to 3:00p then graduation cermony Friday from 9:00-10:00 after that he is ours again for 10 days. He still has 10 weeks of ACT to go through but that will be at Camp Lejeune which is just a little over 2 hours away. We are so excited. I won't be able to sleep tonight!!! Link to comment
OldMaineBear
Once he's released to your arms, stand back and don't get trampled as they all head for the Camp Burger King. They have been smelling it for weeks now and one could get hurt if you are blocking the direct line. When my son took us on a tour of the barracks they all stood in amazement at the air conditioning for the parents benefit. They didn't even realize the place had A/C. Take Kleenex to the graduation. It is the most moving event when they are finally called Marines. I, of course, didn't tear up that was dust got in both eyes. Enjoy the Family Night with the DI's. I met my son's DI's and what an outstanding trio of Marines they were. Congratulations and welcome to the World's most exclusive and close family. Link to comment

MomM
Please give your DS our congratulations and a job well done! Were you asked to wear a special color to his graduation? When our DS graduated they had sent us a letter asking us to all wear red for his group, (other groups wore other colors). It was so neat. It is such a special and exciting day! When they first start parading onto the grounds, you are so filled with pride, and the tears start. This is truly a great accomplishment for these men and women! Link to comment

OMB - he is not a Burger King fan but he said we are stopping at the first Andy's (which is a 50ish burger place) we see so that he can get a burger and onion rings. Link to comment

Just to bring you up to speed. He has graduated basic, done ACT and now has been picked up by his MOS school. He is a landing specialist (or will be) right now (Thanksgiving weekend) he is with one of his marine brothers in Mt. Airy, NC deer hunting. In order for them to get a pass off base they have to go in pairs. Since we had planned on going to B'ham to visit my mother he asked if I would be upset if he went with one of his buddies. So he is hunting. I talked to him last night and he was having his 2nd Thanksgiving Dinner he now has been adopted by his buddy's family. He is set to graduate MOS school somewhere around 12/19 and will then be attached to a reserve unit in Wilmington, NC. He plans on starting the community college come January. He wants to be a lawyer eventually but he also wants a blue collar job to fall back on so he is going to go to the community college (lots cheaper) and get his general academics out of the way and at the same time get a certificate in welding or something a long those lines. He will then transfer to a university and persue the law degree. There are more post here about Baby Boy the Big Bad Marine there is one with a picture of his tat and stories about his phone calls home. Link to comment
