  1. I want to send out some e-mails to a group but don't want everyone to have everyone else's address. I know it can be done because I have gotten some but can't find out through help. Anyone here know how to do it?

  2. I have read about one of these instances. Bothers me that a poll worker said it happens "sometimes" but the guy in charge doesn't know anything about it. Shouldn't happen ever. So make sure you check that your vote is cast correctly and tell someone besides on site poll worker if you have problems.

  3. Hi Billy

    WELCOME!

I agree what you said about credit scores. I won't get any new charge cards or take advantage of home improvement loans because I don't want it to affect my credit score. The last time I was doing business at my bank they wanted me to take out a home improvement loan and just deposit it because the saved interest would be more than the pay back loan interest. Other than the fact I don't want to borrow money, the saved interest rate is very minimal. And it would affect my credit score.

I've been fortunate, so far, that I haven't been late on any bills and I pay off all my credit cards every month. If I can't pay it off at the end of the month, I don't buy it. Period. Because of that, I have a great credit score. I use my charge cards like cash plus I build on my credit rating and I get 1% cash back on everything. It's not a lot but it's free money that I've been rolling over for years. I have a pretty good amount I've kept there (Discover) over the years. Out of sight…out of mind for me. I even put my new roof on the card a few years ago and got about $100.00 back.

When I did a re-fi a few years ago (nightmare!) my credit score was as important as my assets.

The way it was explained to me was the more access you have to money such as home improvement loans, student loans or charge cards etc., the more likely you are to use it and get into financial trouble.

I don't know who explained or why but if you are not in debt, you will have a lousy credit score since it is dependant on how much you borrow, how long you have been borrowing (how long have you had the credit card), and if you make your payments regularly among other things. Payments are rated on the kind of debt you have. 30 day credit card payments are scored differently than house payments.

Among other things I have heard and read about Dave Ramsey is the fact that he does not have a credit score. He requested it and they said that there is not enough information to issue one. So ability to pay for things doesn't count for anything unless you are in debt.

  4. I put water in the shampoo bottles just to get the last bit out. I hate the shampoo bottles that you can't open the top on.

Put some water in one hand, use the other to squeeze the bottle. Put the top of the bottle in your hand and release on the bottle. It will suck up the water from your hand. I usually wind up doing it in the shower, hence the use of my hand but something shallow would probably work.

  5. DH took me back to Fred's and got 4 boxes of jelly jars for $4 each and 4 boxes of Sure-Jell for 1.90 each. I bought a quart bag of bulk fruit pectin for $2 from an Amish store when we went to Indiana last year. Now that dd has moved back home, I don't have a reason to go there now. I guess I need to check out prices and order some. ScrubbieLady, the wide mouth jars are Ball, and the reg. were Golden Harvest. Dee, Fred's is a Dollar Store. Maybe it's just a southern chain? They have the best prices on jars all year long. Mostly Golden Harvest brand and their reg. jar flats are always $1 a dozen. I've never had a problem with them.

I know about Fred's. Their home office is in Memphis and my hubby used to work about 1/2 mile down the road. I buy all my canning jars and lids(Golden Harvest) from them. No one around here beats the prices. They are actually in the southeast.

Anybody want to check....if you are in the southeast check here to see if there is a Fred's near you.

  6. Haven't heard about a sale around here. Our local Fred's sends their unsold canning equipment back to the warehouse. They already have the best prices so they don't put stuff on sale(per the manager).

Are these Golden Harvest or Kerr products?

  7. Around our house, the saying is that we "have one around here... somewhere". I keep my weight in the padded envelope inside the canner when I am not using it and when I get the canner out, it stays right on the countertop next to it or I would lose it in the junk drawer.

  8. I read somewhere to hang onions in panty hose with a knot tied in between them to keep them fresh longer not sure how long they would last though bc we go thru them so fast lol.

This works really well. Keep them in dark place. Something to remember, sweet onions do not keep as well as other types. I have some now that we have had since June. They are starting to sprout in my frig. When they get to that point, I dice and freeze or dehydrate.

  9. They don't mention that they also sell the composite information (supposedly non-personally identifiable). My opinion is no matter what the more your infomation is out there, the more likely something will happen that you will not like. And discrimination(both directions) happens more often when they focus on your language or ethnic background or skin color. For whatever reason.

From us, they get address and number of people.

  10. I have just been given a Seal-A-Meal (my Dad and stepmother bought a Food Saver). I have never used one. The hose, etc wasn't with it. Any idea if I can use Food Saver bags with it since I can't find any Seal-A-Meal bags at the store?

  11. Great find, I was just telling my husband this morning that I was going to find a book or computer info on dehydrating im not scared of it like I am canning lol I have tons of veggies in the frezzer that have been on great clearance at Aldis hate to loose them if we are without power.

I think you're exercising some magnificent wisdom! I'm fearful of cannng myself, that's why I don't! We had our Vita-Mixer going and hubby forgot to put top on...had hot soup all over him, me, the ceiling, the stove, the frig...you name it...major clean up! It cured me of canning. If it had been a presser canning we both would probably have gotten burnt severly...it was hot enough anyway! And losing power is one of my biggies of freezing. Again, I LOVE MY DEHYDRATORS!!! oops...forgot something! Go online and find youtube's dehydrate2store lady. She is magnifico! She's the one that convinced me of dehydrating...then, katzcradul is another lady I enjoy! Have fun!!!

    :curtsey:

If you had been pressure canning and not put the top on, the soup would not have gone anywhere although, you would probably boil it dry and warp the canner.

  12. Salaried doesn't mean anything to wage and hour and they are the ones that determine if you are due overtime. You don't have to go to court, you file with the Dept. of Labor, wage and hour division.

Check out here to see if you are eligible for overtime pay.

    http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/fairpay/fs17a_overview.pdf

We have been down this road before. What counts is WHAT YOU DO! And they are pretty specific. Salaried just changes how they figure things. You do need to keep track of your time. Do you use a time card? Keep a copy of it at the end of each week. If you do isolated things on the weekends (my hubby was in apartment maintenance), keep track of what you do and what time and how long it took.

They will go back a couple of years. Now, your boss will find out who did it but, legally, he cannot fire you for that (of course, that doesn't mean he won't be mean) but, in some states, he can fire you because of whatever.

Besides getting your backpay, the company will find out who is eligible for the overtime pay but only the one(s) that complain will get their pay unless it is a big enough company that wage and hour wants to go after them.

  13. I buy pectin in bulk here (and they are having a sale). http://www.kauffmansfruitfarm.com/Pectin%20Dutch%20Jell%20All%20Natural/item/400110

Anybody in the south and from Texas east check out http://www.fredsinc.com/ to see if you have a Fred's Discount Store in your area. I use them for jars and lids. Jars today are $7.00 for pints and quarts. Regular lids are $1.00/box of 12 and wide mouth $1.25/box of 12. They have other things also depending on what you need.
