  1. From people I have talked with. Health care premiums will most likely NOT go down. They are already going up. And if you have a really good(usually called a Cadillac plan, I think), you will also have to pay a tax on the fact that you have a really good plan.

" Health insurance plans sold to individuals and small businesses both inside and outside the new marketplaces will have to provide at least “essential benefits.” This means that all policies will include prescription drug coverage, preventive services, maternity care, mental health services and other components currently missing from many individual insurance plans."

Well, sorry but I don't understand why a man or an older woman should be REQUIRED to pay for maternity benefits. Why should an older woman (if we want to be all inclusive, this would also apply to a lesbian) be required to pay for birth control coverageThe saying that we can keep our current plan was just a way to convince people this would be good. You can keep your current plan IF they decide that it meets the coverage they think you should have to pay for.

  2. That's how I do it. But when he has it laid out in a (kind of) rectangle, I fold the upper edge down a third of the way, then fold that third onto the last third. Then I fold that in half across once and then once more to make a compact small rectangle.

Then I fold the pillowcases into a fourth of their size, and place them on top of the fitted sheet.

I fold the flat sheet straight down it's long middle first. (That gives me or anyone else a kind of a "guide line" to indicate the middle of the bed when changing them.) Then I fold it in half the other way and a couple of times more until I end up with a long rectangle.

I set the fitted sheet and pillowcase bundle in its middle, and then I fold one side over one way, the other side over that. Or you could just roll the bundle over and over in it from one side.

It ends up being a nicely-wrapped bundle where everything is together and ready to just grab to make the bed.

My mother-in-law and sister-in-law were wowed by how nice it ended up. I thought it just looked like a logical way to do it. (My mom didn't do them that way, though - she didn't want to do that much work.)

This is how I do it. Really makes it nice to keep up with the sets. And, when making up a bed, you don't have to dig through two or three different stacks of things to get a set.

  3. Wow ! That is for rich people to pay those prices for chicken !! I can buy an entire cooked deli chicken for $5, sometimes a few cents less. That is with them doing the cooking !

Here I get boneless skinless breast meat for $1.88 a lb. Legs and thighs, with bone and skin, is about $1.29. Sometimes less on sale. It has gone up in price recently.

I think the seasoned ground beef we canned yesterday would be good in tacos. The recipe from Ball Blue Book. Has tomato juice, onion, garlic, seasoning salt, black pepper.

You can also make little meatballs and can them if you don't want really fine ground meat. It still does have a different texture, though, I agree.

I need to can more dried beans. I still have at least 30 lb. or more.

When I cannot get them on sale, I pay $.59/lb for leg quarters (legs and thighs) with bone and skin. If I watch the sales, I can get them less expensive but not the $3.99/10lbs that we were getting last year. Won't pay for boneless skinless breast meat. Don't really like that much but I can buy a whole chicken a LOT cheaper and just cut the pieces out myself.

  4. moving the ducks outside is becomeing a up hill battle. I take them out and the girls bring them in every night.

Their reasons are.... It's dark, cold, raining,Dad only has a temporay pen set up, something could hurt them.

2 now large ducks inside in a dog crate.

This Momma is not happy with the mess and noise.

TSC has a dog kennel on sale this weekend . It's rated "Coyote proof". 4 people could move it to fresh grass every few days this summer and Dh will build a small shelter for the ducks. DH has a idea on how to enclose it for winter.

It's cool and rainy today and we will be outside working on the shelter and setting up the kennel. Oh joy.

The ducks are not as adverse to cold, wet weather as you would think. They don't like wind however, cold or hot. I wouldn't completely close the shelter. Ours is actually a doghouse with the front open and facing away from the normal winds. They spend very little time in it. Usually, the drakes would check it out when I put new hay in and sometimes the hens use it to lay eggs. They would sleep in the shade it puts out but not in it.

  5. Believe it or not, but besides the obvious of somewhere safe at night(they actually prefer to be on water), the next thing is making sure there is shade. They do not like it hot. At least mine don't. In the spring is the worst because their pen is in the shade of some oak trees but there is the time in the spring before they leaf out and the ducks hide in the shade of their house. Was really funny when I had nine to see them try to find the best shady spot.

  6. First call the phone company and tell them you are being harrassed. Then call the police. If a number is coming up, write it down or at least don't delete it from your caller i.d.. It might just be somone that is drunk and/or dialing the wrong number but better to be safe than sorry.

You want both the phone company and the police dept to have a record that you called in a complaint in case it keeps happening.

  7. At one time, I went into a clearance sale and found that the store had marked up the price and then put some much percentage off so you were actually only saving a couple of pennies if at all.

Think of the other applications for this -- some kids may not being fed 3 squares a day -- should parents be subjected to CYS coming in to inspect? It may seem like a silly exmaple, but I think it fits -- I don't think just because some parents are horrible means the rest of us should have to prove we're not. This to me seems more along the lines of guilty until proven innocent, and that bothers me.

Think of other applications. Maybe someone in the house has a gun. Maybe they have a carry permit. Maybe the children are required to do chores. To some over aggressive liberals, many things can be called abuse. This just gives them the opportunity to inflict their idea of perfect lives onto other people. As I read this, there doesn't need to be any accusation, they WILL inspect the home and family.

They would not be inspecting for the signs of abuse, they would be inspecting for the "risk" of abuse (read the memo).

  9. Our potatoes are going into large tubs (I have seen cattle feed come in them). A friend has almost all of their vegetables in the tubs. They drill four holes about 3-4 inches up the sides for drainage (reservoir at the bottom for dry times but they do have drainage). They grow white and sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, squash, greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts, herbs, etc. in the tubs.

  10. We are trying potatoes for the first time this year. We know some of the problems and hopefully how to deal with them but a friend said that potatoes have serious problems with bugs requiring Sevin dust. Not very in love with Sevin.

We need a short lesson in the types of bugs and how to deal with them.
