Nope, the corn set in the ground for about a week with no rain on it. We had a hard rain after that and that is when a few came up. We thought the rain might have put the corn deeper in the ground since it was so hard but that seems not to be the case. John

I have a corn problem and am wondering if anyone here as had the same experience. I'm doing a garden again with a friend of mine. He wanted to plant a large area with corn. We have an area about 100 feet square. We got the ground ready and planted 3 pounds of peaches and cream, 1 pound of Bodacious, and 1 pound of Truckers yellow. We used an Earthway planter with a fertilizer hopper attached filled with 6-12-12. This was three weeks ago today. Maybe, 12 plants have come up and that is all. I have taken a hoe and searched for the seed and I only found one. I can find the fertilizer but no seeds...anywhere. There was one hole in one row which indicated a grub worm. There is no indication of scratching or digging anywhere in any of the rows. We are at a loss as to what happened to the seeds. We ran the disk and harrow over it today and are replanting tomorrow with seed from a different supplier. Any ideas? John

Good to know things turned out okay for everyone. I had a friend call me several years back and asked me to come to her house to shoot her dog that had just attacked one of her granddaughters. I had to explain to her that it is against the law to discharge a gun in the city limits and that I could go to jail if I did. She got rid of the dog the next day. John

Went to an estate sale and made a deal for all the canning jars they had left, if any at the end of the sale today. I got 20-1/2 pints, 112 pints, & 137 quart jars for $25.00. Now I have to find a place to put them after I wash them up, some are really dirty. John

About five or six weeks ago I helped a friend of mine move furniture and items from the shop of his wife's mother who passed away. The friend can't really do any of the work so I ended up doing 99% of it. The second day of moving my left elbow began hurting and got worse as the day wore on. I figured I probably pulled my bicep as some of this stuff weighed several hundred pounds and I did a lot of pulling and pushing. It has been getting worse and it really showed it's bad side when I started digging post holes to put a fence up around the garden to try and keep the deer out. I have at least 4 more cedar trees to cut down and then in half, twelve more holes to dig and twenty seven post left to set in place (some are 16 feet tall), and about 12 T-post to pound into the ground, and then run the wire. I went for my yearly check-up last week and told my doc about the pain. He referred me to an orthopedic doc and I went in today. The x-rays showed no bone problems (which I figured that already), but the poking and proding wasn't good. The doc says that I have probably torn the ligament where it is attached at the elbow and if I'm not careful it will either rupture or tear completly. If it does I will have to have surgery, (yuk). I also have osteoarthristis (sp) in both of my thumbs and it will take surgery and four months of recovery per thumb to correct. I still have things to plant and I will have to use the tiller for that, and I will have to use it to cultivate also. I've got this brace to wear at night on my arm that looks like a bent surfboard and a splint/glove thing to wear for my left thumb. It's gonna be real interesting tomorrow digging post holes. John

CarlaJ, if you buy a metal blade coated with fake diamonds it will cost you a ton of money. Buy the fiber type blade instead, and no you do not run water over it while cutting. If you use the metal blade you do use water, but water and a circular saw do not mix. Too much change of being shocked. :wormie2; John

I remember my first day in a factory. They put me taping and stacking boxes......that weighed 68 lbs. The next day I thought my hands, arms, legs, and back belonged to someone else cause they sure didn't feel like mine. I ended up working there for about 6 years. I hope the car repair isn't too costly. John

I have one that I use to use (when the insurance was paying for the pads). It really did help me but it is not a cure. I have found that pain meds do more than the unit did. I have two herniated disk and disk degeneration. The drawbacks to mine are the cost of the pads and it eats batteries. I bought rechargeable ones and had to recharge them every night and that is using them for about 5 hours a day, and with the pads I could only get 2 days of use from them. I ended up using tape to extend their life but I still only got about 4 or 5 days use by using the tape. I have had treatments with the professional ones and I can not tell any difference between mine and theirs. I have tried them on my thumb joints but the pads did not want to stick very well and I could not use my hands with the pads on. The machine probably can help a lot of people, but not enough for me to continue using it. John

You can buy a blade that will cut it the hardware store and it fits any standard circular saw (7 1/4"). Price...about $6.00. If you decide to do this make sure to wear eye and breathing protection. It will create a very large amount of dust and can send very small pieces flying. John

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I don't know about aging gracefully, a friend had a death in the family and I spent my birthday and yesterday helping them move her furnishings. I think I broke my back at least 6 times...lol. I'm getting too old to do this stuff. John
