We eat more poultry and pork than beef. I have a 300# pig that is going to be butchered soon. That should keep us in meat for a while.

Any house with propane or Natural gas should have CO detectors!!!

I heat with electric, but have propane for backup. Haven't had to use it yet.

Lots easier just to use a canning jar and canning lids than to mess with paraffin. Less likely to fail on you too.

Hope they get it fixed right quick!

Thanks for the prayers, Mt Rider. Few days inside and I'm feeling better today. Lovely cold sunny day and it would have been perfect working outside except I didn't want to make the bronchitis worse. I am really allergic to that mold and pollen from the cedars.

I haven't taken the flu shot in many yrs and the last time I had flu was in 76. Remember it well. I was in nursing school and my boy friend gave it to me. If I had known he was that sick I wouldn't have gone on that date with him. I wound up in the hospital with pneumonia. These days I avoid crowds and make sure to wash my hands frequently and I never touch my face when I've been out in public without washing my hands first.

There is also the usual cedar fever going around. Allergic reaction to mold and pollen and usually hit this time of year. I have it with a deep chest cough and bronchitis. I have not been anywhere since mid October and have only seen one neighbor since then and that was outside. So I know it isn't flu or a cold.

My niece, based out of Houston, is a flight attendant and sometimes flies to the middle east. She was pretty sick a couple of weeks ago with some kind of flu but I don't think she saw a doctor.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Officials with the Montgomery County Health Department are on a mission to find out more about a mystery flu-like illness.

So far, half of the people who have come down with it have died.

According to the health department, all of the patients have had flu-like and/or pneumonia like symptoms. However, all of them have tested negative for the flu.

There have been eight confirmed patients ranging in age from 41 to 68. Four of those patients have died.

Sources told WFAA sister station KHOU that two of the surviving patients are being treated at Conroe Regional Medical Center and are “very sick."

Those sources said doctors are being advised to use extra precaution to prevent this from spreading.

It’s unclear if any of the patients had pre-existing conditions.

The Montgomery County Health Department is waiting on more conclusive test results. Officials are hoping they will have more answers in the days to come.

I'm not surprised that it isn't good for your kidneys. It tastes bitter to me and I've discovered that most things that taste bitter are hard on my kidneys. (I have chronic kidney disease and have to be very careful what I eat.)

Probably most cases recovered without needing medical attn. Most people don't run to the doc when they get flu and this is 'flu like' so I expect only the very sickest even saw a doc.

No, I can't use vet wrap or ace type bandages of any sort because of a latex allergy.

Occlusive dressings are used on sucking chest wounds to keep the lung from collapsing, thought that is not something most people will have to deal with. They are also used on large burns along with an antibacterial ointment such as Silvadene cream. Keeping the air off the burn can help relieve pain and improve healing without the area drying out and cracking. Make sure the burned area is cooled first or use a cooling gel pad on the outside of the dressing if needed. Remember that a burn patient will lose a lot of heat if the burn is large so be cautious about this. Occlusive dressings can also be used with a salve that you wish to be absorbed thru the skin without having it rubbed off on clothing. I use it with vick's salve and a hot wet pack to take the poison out of wasp stings or with a drawing salve to remove a splinter or bring a boil to a head.

You might want to get a roll of this to add to your kit. I'm very sensitive to adhesives but can tolerate this on my skin, at least for short periods, without getting a bad rash. It is handy for occlusive dressings or to hold a drawing salve in place. You can also take a strip and wrap around a dressing over a wound on a limb to hold it in place.

I know. I've been pricing stoves too. Ouch. I'd get another used one, but I can't go to town and fetch it so have to have a new one delivered.

Have you considered building your own cabinets? They are really not difficult if you face frame them. I don't even like cabinets above because I never close the doors anyhow. I'd rather have nice shelves. Shelves are easy. Lots of how to books at the library or you can find lots of info online. I had someone build me cupboards once and they looked really nice and were tons cheaper than ready made. I was ill at the time or I'd have done it myself.

No family. No plans. No drama. Knowing me, I'll likely be outside whacking mesquite most of the day.

I got one in the fridge that I'm going to try smoking. Mainly I just wanna try out my new smoker. LOL
