So, will be investing in an all-American canner in the near future.

Have you considered the ForJars? It's new on the market.

Temporarily sold out, but should have them back in stock when you're ready to purchase.

ETA: Sutton's Daze "Monday Night Live" chatting about the (2023) Black Friday sale with Mike and Alina from ForJars. If you recieved your canner and have any questions this would be a good video to watch - at least for the first 15 mins.

Fresh pickles are fun, but does shelf stable mason jar pickling count as canning or does it need another thread?  That being said, do we need separate threads for dehydrating, etc? or does 'canning' count towards all preserving?

Maybe one of the "changes" that @Darlene should make to the forums is to change the name of this category to - "What are you PRESERVING today." :scratchhead:

Working on some Navy Bean soup. Should have it done by the end of the day. :canning:

This soup has been a series of disasters: the biggest one being that my canner would not come up to pressure, so I stopped it. Now I have to wait for the jars to cool off so I can put them in the fridge and deal with it when I get back from my Dr appt. (But I may not feel up to it as my appt is for a Nuclear Stress Test.)

ETA: I decided it was best to re-process the soup while it was still hot rather than trying to do it once the jars were cold, so I replaced the sealing gasket and the overpressure plug and am starting again. (I used my coffeemaker to get hot water to put in the canner.  )

It is a good thing that I was PREPARED for this problem! (had the parts on hand)

Problem solved!!! It is running now and I am not getting the water oozing out of the canner below the lid like I was previously. The old gasket didn't look damaged, but I thought that the gasket might be the issue so that is why I replaced it.

  4. Latest list of recalls. It's a loooooooooooooooooooooong one!  :(

    Cookies and SALADS

This is a terrifying warning about cookies and salad recalls. Be sure to watch to find out more about what's happening and what you can do to avoid any possible problems! Make sure you check the label of any food you're eating to make sure it's not one of the recalled items. Did you know that you could have been eating cookies that were mislabel for a whole year? Not to mention all these salads! If not, subscribe and turn the notification bell to ALL so that you can stay informed and safe!

We contacted Ball questioning their recipe for Saucy Sloppy Joe Starter.
They replied that the correct amount is 1 cup apple cider vinegar NOT 1/2 cup.
Be sure to update your Ball All New Book of Canning and Preserving or the Ball Back To Basics book. Newer editions may be updated.
Their website has also been updated.
This recipe is a boiling water canning recipe.

  6. Finally got my turkey soup from Thanksgiving all jarred up! Wound up with 7 quarts. I bought two cases of Ball "Smooth" Jars for a very good price at a Grocery Outlet - only $12.99 each. However, I am pretty sure I am going to return the second case because the "smooth" jars don't have the Ball name in relief, and there aren't any measurement markings on them either. Being smooth made them very difficult to handle once out of the canner because there was some overflow of the broth into the canner and it made the jars very very slick and difficult to get a good grip on bare-handed. :( Not something I would have thought of before making the purchase! :imoksmiley:

Wonder how many foreign roads there are in this country. If possible, I would avoid all of them. Just wonder how we can find that info out.

Not quite sure how to find that out, but, ALL Interstate Highways are Federally built and maintained and do not have tolls. It is state maintained roads that seem to still be able to charge: ie - the New Jersey Turnpike, etc.

Hope they don't change it again. This is the second time they changed their plans for Christmas.

You are too accomodating. It is a great way to be, but it also someone who gets "used" a lot. I hope all of your (their?) plans are finally stabilized.

  12. @snapshotmiki Our pups (and other animals) are very special to us and I am sorry to hear of your loss. It is also sad to learn that you have another beloved companion animal that will soon by waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. I hope you remaining pets don't take these losses too hard, as it can be hard on us to see them grieving their losses also. Prayers and comfort to your remaining family - 2 legged and 4.

My guitar has arrived so son or DIL will pick it up over there this weekend. Can't wait to start learning how to strum the thing. Should be interesting. Or not.

     :band:  <-- Jeepers. :grinning-smiley-044:

If you are right handed, the fingertips on your left hand will be very tender and sore until you build up on callouses on them. BTW - does yours have nylon strings or the metal ones? Not only makes a difference to your fingertips, but also to the sound quality and volume that the guitar puts out.

They know I can't take generic, so I had to go back to get the name brand. That is the only one I can't take generic of. It cost me $45.00 and when I went to pick it up, she wouldn't charge me. Saved me some money there.

I'm glad you were able to exchange the meds for the correct brand. Around here, once it goes out the door it is not returnable - even if it's their error.
