  1. Even if CA. prop 37 fails there are still 49 more states that can fight them. If it would get on all the states ballots then only one would have to pass it. Assuming that state was fighting for the entire country and not just their state.

"As goes Calif, so goes the nation" is a trend that Monsanto is really really afraid of and is why they are fighting the propostion so hard. BTW, there was a New England state that tried to get food labeling instituted and Monsanto threatened to sue them :baseballbat: . They dropped the effort due to concern over the cost of possible legislation. :banghead:

    Found it!

Monsanto Threatens to Sue Vermont Legislature, over Food Labeling Requirements

Despite overwhelming public support and support from a clear majority of Vermont’s Agriculture Committee, Vermont legislators are dragging their feet on a proposed GMO labeling bill. Why? Because Monsanto has threatened to sue the state if the bill passes.

  2. Monsanto is the definition of EVIL!

Their GMO corn and soybeans are in EVERYTHING!!! Calif Prop 37 is trying to get foods labels to reveal whether the product had GMO ingredients in it, and Monsanto is paying BIG TIME for anti-37 ads--complete with scare tactics and out-and-out lies.

They have also developed a strain of corn which will be sold DIRECTLY to consumers (not as an ingredient in food products) by WalMart and another grocery store that I can't remember right now.

Remember, the GMO corn and soybeans are probably in your animal feed and your pet foods too. :animal0017:

  3. Never have understood why that poison is still on the market.

    ===============================================

How it GOT approved is the more interesting story.

    March 8, 1977
-G. D. Searle hires prominent Washington insider Donald Rumsfeld as the new CEO to try to turn the beleaguered company around. A former Member of Congress and Secretary of Defense in the Ford Administration, Rumsfeld brings in several of his Washington cronies as top management.

    June 1, 1979
-The FDA established a Public Board of Inquiry (PBOI) to rule on safety issues surrounding NutraSweet.

    September 30, 1980
-The Public Board of Inquiry concludes NutraSweet should not be approved pending further investigations of brain tumors in animals. The board states it "has not been presented with proof of reasonable certainty that aspartame is safe for use as a food additive."

    January 1981
-Donald Rumsfeld, CEO of Searle, states in a sales meeting that he is going to make a big push to get aspartame approved within the year. Rumsfeld says he will use his political pull in Washington, rather than scientific means, to make sure it gets approved.

    January 21, 1981
-Ronald Reagan is sworn in as President of the United States. Reagan's transition team, which includes Donald Rumsfeld, CEO of G. D. Searle, hand picks Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes Jr. to be the new FDA Commissioner.

    July 15, 1981
-In one of his first official acts, Dr. Arthur Hayes Jr., the new FDA commissioner, overrules the Public Board of Inquiry, ignores the recommendations of his own internal FDA team and approves NutraSweet for dry products. Hayes says that aspartame has been shown to be safe for its' proposed uses and says few compounds have withstood such detailed testing and repeated close scrutiny.

    August 8, 1983
-Consumer Attorney, Jim Turner of the Community Nutrition Institute and Dr. Woodrow Monte, Arizona State University's Director of Food Science and Nutritional Laboratories, file suit with the FDA objecting to aspartame approval based on unresolved safety issues.

    September, 1983
-FDA Commissioner Hayes resigns under a cloud of controversy about his taking unauthorized rides aboard a General Foods jet. (General foods is a major customer of NutraSweet) Burson-Marsteller, Searle's public relation firm (which also represented several of NutraSweet's major users), immediately hires Hayes as senior scientific consultant

The NutraSweet Company's aspartame patent ended in 1992. Now many companies including "health food" companies, quietly sweeten their products with aspartame. The $8 billion multinational company Monsanto Inc. (maker of bovine growth hormone, genetically engineered soybeans, Roundup and many other industrial and agricultural chemicals) owns the NutraSweet Company now called, after a 1996 merger, the NutraSweet, Kelco Company. NutraMancer City provides access to the political, economic, cultural and scientific maze surrounding the manufacture, regulation, and sale of aspartame.

  4. I think it's wonky because it appears as though it was intended to be printed on both sides of the paper -- I have no clue how to do that, so what I did was took the sheet with page numbers 16 and 13, folded it in half print on print, and then took the sheet with 14 and 15 and folded it in half blank to blank, and put it blank side to the blank side of the sheet with 16 and 13. Hope that makes sense how I am explaining it. Continued on doing it that way and it did work to make it booklet-ish and with the numbers all in order.

On the print menu, select the "Properties' button. Then look for "Finishing" tab. Select that tab, and then choose "Print Both Sides" manually. It will print in the correct order, but you will have to physically turn the paper around for the second side printing (there is usually a graphic on the menu which will show you how to turn the paper.)

  5. And I have Annarchy to thank :cheer::woohoo::thumbs: for letting me in on the secret codes like CTRL Z.

I used to pitch a hissy quite often over this very issue. That capital key got me too. But with MS, I can't free-hang over the keyboard. I have to be touching at some point for orientation. But seeing my words zappped was TOO MUCH!!!!! :banghead:

CTRL Z .....as in "zapppped", has saved my sanity. Stands for: GIMME THAT BACK!!! :tapfoot: And you can hit it 2 or 3 times if your fingers got going before you notice that it happened. It will keep going backwards to the point you lost the words. :cele:

I also liked the two other codes she shared: CTRL C ....for a sure-fire way to "copy". [Right click didn't always bring up the right options]

    And CTRL V ...for "paste"

Is there one for "cut" ?????

MtRider [....glad to know I'm not the only one dealing with "Hal" inside my computer. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to Annarchy!!! ]

    Ctrl + X = cut

    Ctrl + L = Left aligned

    Ctrl + R = Right aligned

    Ctrl + E = Centered (gotcha! Remember, Ctrl + C = COPY!!!)

    Ctrl + B = Bold

    Ctrl + I = Italics

    Ctrl + U = Underline

    Ctrl + P =Print

    Ctrl + S = Save

    Ctrl + A = Select ALL

BTW- Ctrl + Y = Redo the Undo (If you Ctrl Z too far back. )

Soooooooooooooooooooo, if you want to copy and save your post before hitting that REPLY button........................

Ctrl + A (select your whole post)

Ctrl + C (copy the post to the clipboard)

IF the post doesn't appear and you think you've lost it.........:runcirclsmiley2: .........never fear.

Start a new reply and hit Ctrl + V. Voila! Your post "magically" reappears.

  6. I don't buy unless it is on sale. Sometimes I don't even buy on-sale unless I have a coupon too!!!

As far as low-carb, you can up the fats (for satiety) as long as you stay away from "white" foods. Cook in EVOO or coconut oil. Avoid canola oil and soybean oil like the plague. (sometimes you can't avoid it if it is in your condiments, etc). Use REAL butter on those veggies. Cook your eggs in butter or bacon grease. BTW-eggs are no longer a cholesterol no-no.

Make your tuna salad with lots of mayo! It is moister and more filling.

I use Dreamfield's pasta when I feel like mac&cheese, spaghetti, or penne. It is rather pricey, but you can go to their website and print a coupon. Then keep an eye on Safeway, cause they put it on sale every once in a while but it is never in the ad!!!

If you're having chix broth for lunch or a snack, you can add 1 envelope of gelatin to up the protein content without changing the flavor.

I sometimes buy plain greek yogurt and add a "sleeve" of pre-sweetened Crystal Lite fruit flavored powder to it. I like strawberry the best. I have been known to dip a spoonful of peanut butter out of the jar, then dip it into the yogurt. Kinda like eating PB&J, but not really.

I almost forgot about pork rinds!!! They can be a bread substitute in many situations. I alternate between spreading cream cheese and peanut butter on them (no jelly though :) ) You can also load them up with the tuna salad (as you're eating them or they will get soggy) or dip ;them in guacamole. Yumm.

You can crush them and use them as "breading" on the outside of chix or fish, or you can mix them into ground beef for making meat loaf or meatballs.

Sour cream is good for adding to pan drippings to make a sauce for your meat and veggies. Add some spinach and you have spinach dip for those pork rinds. Mix it into eggs and make an omelet or a quiche.

I hope you get the idea.

Now, all that said, I still have sugar, flour, and corn meal as part of my preps. I may have to resort to cooking with it, or I may just use it for barter. But, I only buy it when it is on sale. And that season is fast approaching with Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner!

    "Artificial sweetener disease"

The US Food and Drug Administration has received reports of 92 medical health problems resulting from aspartame, ranging from abdominal pain to migraines, dizziness and hives. Aspartame poisoning is often misdiagnosed because its symptoms mock other syndromes. It changes the ratio of amino acids in the blood, lowering or blocking levels of hormones like dopamine and tyrosine that are necessary for bodily function.

Since aspartame cannot be detected through lab tests and x-rays, these diseases and disorders may actually be a toxic load. Below are some specific health conditions that are associated with aspartame you might want to recall next time you open a can of diet soda:

fever.gif1. Cancer - The Ramazzine Foundation, a European Cancer Research Center, conducted a study on aspartame which revealed that aspartame increases the risk of cancers (lymphoma, leukemia and breast cancers). Despite the National Cancer Institute's stand that no such connection was ever firmly established between aspartame and cancer, it might well be worth thinking that what is harmful to rats is also harmful to humans. Moreover, the dismissive stand of regulatory bodies concerning aspartame is merely based on the absence of data that can conclusively support such a connection and NOT on a finding that establishes that aspartame does not cause cancer.

fever.gif2. Mental disorders and degeneration of brain cells - Excessive ingestion of artificial sweeteners, according to researchers from the University of Praetoria and the University of Limpopo, may lead to various mental disorders and the degeneration of the brain. Publishing in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers noted that aspartame appeared to cause excessive signals, damage and even death to nerve cells. Since aspartame disrupts the functioning of the cell's energy source, it will lead to a cascade of effects on the whole system.

fever.gif3. Headaches - As early as 1994, a study conducted published on PubMed.gov showed that ingestion of aspartame was associated with headaches. Subjects in the study revealed that they experienced headaches 33 percent of the time when taking aspartame compared to 24 percent when on placebo treatment. Moreover, Dr. Robert Milne and Blake More in their book "Headaches" report that headaches are the most reported side effect given by those who take products containing aspartame. They add that in a University of Parkinson's at Florida study, it was found out that the incidences of migraines doubled for a majority of test subjects who took aspartame. Their headaches lasted longer and were marked by significant signs of shakiness and diminished vision.

fever.gif4. Weight gain and increased blood sugar - Aspartame is not a healthy alternative for diabetics or those wanting to lose weight. Contrary to popular belief, a recent study has shown that regular consumption of diet soft drinks is strongly connected with abdominal obesity and that aspartame can increase blood sugar. Researchers from the University of Texas Health Center San Antonio reported in a study that, as a group, 70 percent of those who drank diet soft drinks gained weight as opposed to those who did not. Moreover, those who drank 2 or more diet sodas regularly experienced an increase in their waist circumference by 500 percent more than those who did not drink them.

fever.gifIn another related study that analyzed a possible relationship between intake of aspartame and fasting glucose and insulin levels among 40 diabetes-prone mice, one of the researchers in the study, Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, revealed that heavy aspartame exposure might potentially contribute to the associations noticed between soda consumption and the risk of diabetes in humans.

The above health conditions are just some of the 92 reported medical health problems reportedly associated with aspartame. Despite the stand of aspartame manufacturers that their product has been declared safe for human consumption, it is still strange that there are still reports from sectors who do not stand to benefit from such declarations that aspartame is not safe. Prudence would dictate that avoiding a product may be better in the long run than to discover firsthand that all that was said about it was true. Why? Because you happen to be living proof of it.

    How to protect yourself

ph34r.gifTo keep yourself safe from contracting "artificial sweetener syndrome," it is suggested that you stop taking all products containing this chemical.

ph34r.gifIf you have brought or stocked up on products containing aspartame, you can arrange to return the products so you can get a refund of your money. If you feel that you may need professional help in getting over the disease, please see your doctor as soon as possible. Take a proactive approach to being healthy.

ph34r.gifFinally, for those taking aspartame simply because they want to observe a healthy diet, replace your aspartame habit with real sugar. Although it may have more calories, it offers a far better solution than being poisoned. Those who want to manage their weight problems are advised to seek a healthier course of action like eating more whole foods, vegetables and fruits and getting regular exercise. True and sustainable weight loss cannot be achieved through a quick fix without a change in lifestyle. Set a personal example to be healthy and watch yourself regain your life

  8. Aspertame:

Despite the benefits cited in the aspartame website, independent studies have been shown that aspartame is not as safe as it appears to be. In a recent study conducted by researchers from the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine and at Columbia University Medical Center, it was discovered that those who drank diet soft drinks on a daily basis were more likely to contract vascular diseases compared to those who took none.

Supporters of aspartame insist that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are found in many foods. What they have conveniently left out, however, is that the said neurotoxins are harmless only when consumed with other nutrients like fats, amino acids (protein) and carbohydrates. On their own, they are absorbed by the nervous system in large concentrations causing the stimulation of brain neurons and cell death. Symptoms of the conditions include headaches, confusion, balance problems and seizures.

Methanol, on the other hand, is also a highly toxic substance. It is released in the small intestine gradually with the assistance of chymotrypsin and then broken down into formaldehyde: a chemical used for embalming which is a carcinogen that causes birth defects, retinal damage and DNA replication.

Again, supporters of aspartame insist that methanol is safe because it is found in vegetables and fruit juices. What they neglect to mention, however, is that methanol in vegetables and fruit juices is bound with pectin and the body does not possess the digestive enzyme to break down pectin and release ethanol into the body. Furthermore, ethanol, the methanol toxicity antidote, is found in natural sources of methanol, inhibiting the metabolism of methanol and giving the body sufficient time, through the lungs and kidneys, to clear it. Methanol found in aspartame is easily absorbed because it is in a free form.

Aspartic acid, methanol and phenylalanine and their breakdown in the body are cumulative because of their fast absorption and slow excretion.

In 1984, studies conducted revealed that the toxicity of NutraSweet (aspartame) to living organisms. The State of Arizona arrived at findings which showed that aspartame in carbonated drinks can break down into free methanol in temperatures of 99 degrees Fahrenheit. On May 13, 1998, the University of Barcelona also arrived at results revealing that aspartame was transformed into formaldehyde in the bodies of living creatures, and on later examination formaldehyde had spread through the vital parts of the body.

  9. I believe the solution to that is supposed to be to use hot water to start.

    Honestly. :happy0203:

*Supposedly* it allows for less air to be trapped in them, but I can't verify that. :bighug2:

I hope you don't mean hot water from the tap! :tapfoot: Just think of all the yuckies that are in your hot water tank that would wind up in your ice cubes.:yuk:

  10. At one time the full video was available on YouTube, but I couldn't find it anymore when I went looking. :sad-smiley-012:

Sooooooooooooooooooooo..............................it's a good thing I had previously downloaded the video! Let me know if you would like to see the whole thing.....it's about 2 hours, but well worth it.

  11. Wow, what a treat- I feel like I live in a fancy restaurant now! My first batch came out looking like cold cubes of YooHoo, so I made an audible and switched my Houston tap water with a bottled source- much better now. Is there a Kosher version to this recipe?

I don't like "home made" ice cubes because of the 'frosty' white center they usually develop. Would using bottled water solve this problem??? :misc-smiley-231:

    (Real question BTW.)

  12. I don't like to raw pack. During cooking, it all cooks together into a big lump! (I can pieces, not whole breasts). I had about 25lbs of breast and quarters to can, so I pre-cooked in aluminum turkey roasters. (Too much for my largest pot, and I got to throw the messy pans away!):eclipsee_Victoria: I boned the chix, put it into baggies and used the bones to make broth. then I diced the chicken and combined it with the broth from the bones and processed it for pints. :canning: Came out good.

  13. Hey AH, just exactly what does stripper music sound like?

    :24:

[i STILL want to know HOW to make the VIDEO APPEAR here instead of just a link!!!!]

    :eclipsee_Victoria:

Top Comments (from YouTube): went to a catholic school when i was a kid and when we were learning about the burial of jesus it said they stripped off jesus's clothing, then some kid started humming this. lol

  14. Microwave bacon cookers. Had the flat type. No matter how long you cook them you got charcoal or rubber. I saw the ones you hang the bacon on and that looked even scarier. Trust me an iron skillet and a fork is MUCH better!

As long as you don't use a PLASTIC fork.......................right Darlene?!?!?!?!?!?! frying%20pan.gif
