grace
Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier of tincture bottles? My midwife told me of one but according to 411 it doesn't exist! Thanks, Kim Link to comment
gardnmom
I found many pages of listing using the search engine, but those I checked were not in Canada. Sorry. Link to comment
Kygal
you cant just put it in a jar? Link to comment
gardnmom
If it is stored in the dark a jar works fine. I have put it in a tightly capped pint or quart jar and then put the jar in brown paper bags and labeled them then stored in a dark cool place with good luck. Link to comment
Daisygirl
You could always paint the outside of the bottle to keep out the light. If you wanted to see through it, you could buy glass stains at the hobby shop. Link to comment
Kygal
do you have to have a specific type/opacity/colour/shape jar to make a tincture? i think i read one post (i think it was st.johns wort) that said a flat jar. is it really that important? Link to comment
gardnmom
The shape is not important for storage. The only time you need a "flat" bottle is for making an oil, it is laid on it's side for the sunlight to warm in order to infuse the herb into the olive oil. After it is completly infused in 2 to 4 weeks it is strained then put in a storage bottle. Generally the color used is amber (brown) because it lets in so little light. but cobalt blue also works, but costs more. Link to comment
Bamboo
Lois your post about laying the bottle on it's side made me remember when I worked in a pharmacy, years and years ago. Our cough syrup bottles were all flat on one side and were brown. I wonder if you went to your local pharmacy if they would sell them to you. Thinking back, we had many sizes from 2 oz all the way up to, maybe 16-18 oz Might be worth checking into. Link to comment
