Kidney Stone Queen

((((Stephanie))))

I have had a large kidney stone (About 2" long and 1" diameter with fingers growing out the top) and I tried various natural methods to rid myself of the stone. One method put me in hospital with extreme pain, and I suspect that because the methods I tried were for "normal" stones that they possibly made the stone I had worse. If I ever had another stone, I would skip the natural therapies, until the doctor could give me lots of information that I was comfortable with. One key is hydration, you have to keep well hydrated it helps keep things diluted! and therefore less chance of forming stones. In the mean time, heat will often help ease the pain!

I can so understand about this. I am currently dealing with kidney stones, ones that they are calling "monsters". Each one is several inches, can't be passed and will have to be blasted. I have had one blasted, but there are at least 7 more involving both kidneys! They had to put a stent in the right kidney. I am tired of hurting, so any ideas are welcome.

If you have monster stones, go for medical treatment. To avoid stones, try to find out if there might be food allergies present. Milk and dairy products can be terrible for kidneys. Too much animal protein in your diet is also hard on your kidneys. If you drink soft drinks, that can be very hard on kidneys too. BTW any soft drink that has phosphoric acid in it is robbing your bones of calcium.

You really do need to know of what your stones are comprised. Until you know that, just make sure that you are drinking lots of water. Remember that caffine is a diruetic, drink much less of that and soft drinks.

Once your DR is armed with the composition of your stones, he or she can better tell you what to avoid or add to your diet. good luck.

My DH forms huge stones; (3 operations). For him, Dr. said No calcium producing foods, including dark leafy greens and especially NO PEPPER. DH uses no salt, so the pepper restriction is especially onerous. Also gallons of cranberry juice or lemonade. The acid wash keeps SOME of the stones from starting. Sceeech...sound of running feet headed to the rest area.!!! But driving is how he got into this problem in the first place. Stay in touch with your Dr.... the pain is not worth the delay.

quote from the above link

Salt Restriction. Because salt intake increases the amount of calcium in urine, patients with calcium stones should restrict their sodium intake. Sodium may also elevate levels of urate, the crystalline substance that can trigger formation of recurrent calcium oxalate stones. Although the relative contribution of sodium restriction in this and other studies has not been confirmed, some researchers believe that restricting sodium along with increasing fluid intake is the most important dietary measure for preventing stones.

Stones formed by uric acid are caused by any food that aggravates gout, (same problem different symptom!) avoid red meats, vitamin C in high doses and yeast products. And keep the water up.
