Anyone Dry foods outdoors before?

I don't want to spend alot of money on a food dehydrator and I really don't want to have a large electric bill either, so I wanted to make a solar dehydrator but I don't have the money or ability to make one too fancy. I wanted to build a screened frame, put it under a piece of tin, and put a plexiglass top over it to dry some veggies. I've never done this before, has anyone dried their foods outside before???

I have done it with trays and some screening over the trays. Just make sure you watch for ants wherever you put your trays. They are a big problem in my area.

Here are plans for a nearly free solar dehydrator you can make...
