Leasmom
I don't want to spend alot of money on a food dehydrator and I really don't want to have a large electric bill either, so I wanted to make a solar dehydrator but I don't have the money or ability to make one too fancy. I wanted to build a screened frame, put it under a piece of tin, and put a plexiglass top over it to dry some veggies. I've never done this before, has anyone dried their foods outside before??? dogmom4
I have done it with trays and some screening over the trays. Just make sure you watch for ants wherever you put your trays. They are a big problem in my area. Here are plans for a nearly free solar dehydrator you can make... http://www.thefarm.org/charities/i4at/surv/soldehyd.htm And more... http://www.motherearthnews.com/Do-It-Yours...Dehydrator.aspx http://www.romwell.com/cookbook/Preserve/sun_drying.html http://www.romwell.com/cookbook/Preserve/solar_drying.html http://www.romwell.com/cookbook/Preserve/vine_drying.html Link to comment
