nmchick
Was it a site in nearly the same climate as you? We had a cherry tree that died last winter. It was supposed to be ok for our growing zone, but we're on the edge of it's hardiness. As the weather gets weirder, I'm making sure whatever we buy is in the absolute middle of our the hardiness zone. Last winter was way colder than normal and this summer has been unusually hot. I'm figuring weird is the new normal. Link to comment
Andrea
Hi Kathy and Welcome! May I suggest buying from a local source? Become close friends with your local nursery person. You may pay a bit more up front, but you'll have plants that were grown for your area and will most likely far out-produce any mail order trees. Plus you build a relationship with a specialist and you help support your local economy by keeping your $$$ local. I have found that for long-term gardening investments, like fruit trees, you really do get what you pay for. Good luck and welcome! Link to comment
kathy003
I don't think the site was in the same climate as I am, but they had on there what zones the tree's could grow in. Here also the weather has been weirder than usual. We've had an unusually cool summer, so now I'm worried about a bad winter! Link to comment
kathy003
Thanks Andrea, Your probobly right, if I buy them locally maybe I can get some good advice. Last weekend on our way home from our vacation I passed a tree buisness that had raspberry bushes on the sign, and i'll be right in that area on Saturday. I'll have to stop in there. Thanks! Tracie
Absolutely -- and a *local* nursery. Not a chain. I bought apple trees from my favorite orchard last year. Link to comment
