philomena
I have this Sucanat that I bought more than a year ago. Maybe a year and a half? It has spent at least six months on open shelves in the kitchen, and the last year in a box or in the closed pantry. The whole time it has been in a clear, airtight Lock&Lock container (I love those). It seems fine, smells fine. I've been using it, but I'm wondering if I should. I'm sure regular sugar would still be good, but since this is evaporated cane juice, and still has the molasses in it, is it still good? Thanks! Oh yeah, and it did go through a freeze last January when it was stored for three weeks in a non-heated storage container. Link to comment
Canned Nerd
If it went through a freeze and a thaw before sitting on the shelf that long, I would be suspect of its quality, but if you are using it and it appears fine...... continue to do so. Link to comment
Percysgirl
The nose knows. If it smells and tastes ok, it probably is. I use sucanat, and I'd use it at that age if it tasted ok. Link to comment
Vic303
It's sugar, right? But with some molasses in? Gee, I have molasses that is at least 3-5yrs old that I just in bread and other recipes calling for brown sugar. Works fine. Just stored in its factory glass jar & metal lid... Link to comment
