gulfcoastruth
Hello experts! While hiking in the woods near my house (Florida Gulf Coast; Panhandle) I spotted what looked just like very large blueberry's on the ground. (About the size of a large marble) They had fallen from a very tall, slender tree with a black trunk and oval leaves. I opened one...kinda soft and woody inside, like rotten wood. I tasted it with just the tip of my tongue..slightly sweet, not bitter at all, mostly just blah. Anyone have any idea what these berries or fruit may be, and if they are good for anything?? Thanks a bunch! Link to comment

JCK88
I'm not sure what it is. I used to live in Florida and there is something there called a Marlberry tree that has bluish berries on it. But I'm not sure if that is how it is spelled. (no, I'm not talking about mulberries) Here is a link to a guide on FL trees that might help you figure it out......and if you do, let us know! I'm dying to know, LOL ttp://www.captivacivicassociation.com/Captiva_Vegetation_Guide_Insert_092605.pdf And another guide here: http://urbanforestry.ifas.ufl.edu/Publicat...entralFlaV2.PDF Link to comment
gulfcoastruth
Thanks ladies! I'll try to post a picture (but I haven't had good luck with that on this site) and I will definitly check out the Florida trees site. I'll let you know if I get to the bottom of it! Thanks again! Link to comment
MommaDogs
Try contacting Green Dean at www.eattheweeds.com He's in Florida and an expert on wild edibles, likely would be able to identify it. Link to comment
