ANewMe
A friend of mine just sent me this recipe for Taco seasoning. I plan to try it instead of purchasing the packets. I'm thinking it would keep longer than a month??? Your thoughts? 3 tablespoons chili powder 1 tablespoon salt (I used a little less) 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper 3/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (I used a little more) Just mix it all together and store in an airtight container for up to one month. For tacos, ground 1lb ground beef, drain, return to pan. Add 2-4 tablespoons (I use 4) of the mixture above along with 3/4 cup of water and cook until desired consistency. Link to comment
Canned Nerd
I'm trying to kick the salt, so I have this one: Taco Seasoning Mix (Low Salt) 2 Tbs Chili Powder 2 Tbs Flour 2 tsp Cumin 2 tsp Oregano 1/2 tsp Onion Powder 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper 1. Combine all ingredients in a zip lock bag and shake until completely mixed. Add to browned ground beef along with 1/2-3/4 cup water and cook until reduced to desired consistency. Link to comment
Amishway Homesteaders
And the best part is...................... It will cost you maybe 12 cent to make a batch instead of whatever the paccket costs in a store? We have been doing it this way for so long I have no idea what a packet costs anymore? LOL Also good to use the last bit in soups! glass jars work the best. Link to comment

ANewMe
How long do you think it will keep? Surely more than a month Link to comment
Canned Nerd
Only standard dried spices are being used so they should last for a long while if kept in a closed container. Link to comment
themartianchick
I'm thinking that the glass jar idea is probably the best for storage, too. I hate that funny taste that things can take on when they are stored in plastic containers. It's kind of like that old left-in-the-refrigerator-too-long taste. In glass I would expect it to last a good long time. Link to comment
