snapshotmiki
There is an inexpensive meat slicer at my thrift shop. Seems like it might work as a mandoline for even slices and quicker too. For making beef jerky or for slicing potatoes (or whatever) for dehydrating. Any experiences or suggestions? Link to comment
Canned Nerd
Is it one of the steel ones or the fold-up plastic ones? The steel ones have a motor in the back that should come off with a simple turn of a set screw, leaving the rest to go into the washer. I would avoid those that just have a regular screw-in motor since they are more of a pain to clean. Also check for all parts. The food holder/pusher is often missing. I actually prefer the fold-up plastic ones for home use since they store away nicely. Not very practical for small items, such as produce, and would be a pain to set up and clean for such small jobs that a mandoline could do. Some slicers have a separate blade specifically for slicing bread. I love using mine for slicing semi-frozen meats, either for jerky or for luncheon meat slices. Link to comment
snapshotmiki
CN! I thought it would be good for slicing potatoes or any veggie evenly. And it is a fold up plastic one. I will check it over the next time I get to the shop. Thanks! Link to comment
