3D printing...potential is staggering

Am I the last to hear about this new technology? Where they use new machines to print, not ink but plastic and other materials, onto a surface. They can keep 'printing' layers and build 3-dimentional things. LOTS of different things.

Lots of potential for bringing USA manufacturing back home. Like...in your own basement or garage. Whew!

Nope, you're not the last one to have heard about it, I wasn't aware of it until I read your post (and the article you linked to).

Wow, can you imagine 'printing off' some of those things. Makes me wonder what kind of fees would be associated with it, and of course good ole regulations.

Is anyone else thinking Star Trek (as in their replicator?). Kind of reminds me of that (a lot).

There's soooo many creative ways to generate an income. Mountain Man just happens to be a retired builder, but stuck his paw into screen printing for a couple of years. Said for him, it was too time consuming and he just didn't feel he had the marketing skills to bring the biz in so he sold out. We've been thinking about buying a used trailer, travel or ??? and was snooping around...and found this lady in Missouri that has purchased two very large homes and is renting each bedroom out as a "studio apt" type thing. Quickly adding in my head I figure she's probably grossing somewhere around $2500 a month for each house. Take the payment off, the utilities & maintenance off, and she's probably still netting out a reasonable amount. That would put a nice roof over somebody's head and still create at least a marginal income? Very interesting!

The nerd in me is giddy over the implications of this! A replicator, indeed!

I do like the idea that Philbe posted. Around here, there are lots of homes that are about the same size and shape of the ones in the Manor House links. We could definitely do something like that! Real estate has been undervalued here for years.

Real estate has been depressed for several years, and foreclosures are in abundant supply (unfortunately). If the two properties we own were large like this, it would probably be "like a duck on a June bug" since both are paid for! The homestead house has the two apartments, occupied, but it's family under stress and no rents coming in. Mountain Man couldn't hardly pry himself away from those web sites...LOL Guess it's the home builder in him!

Philbe spent nearly 20 years as a Realtor's private assistant and property management specialist. Got the know-how, MM was a home builder for over 20 yrs., has the know-how, and now works in property repair/maintenance, has the know-how. BUT...not the monies. Philbe's gonna keep quiet...hoping MM will forget the idea :-) Not her idea of retirement to go back into property management or go into debt! LOL
