bluegrassmom
I would like a homemade ketchup recipe but most of the ones I've tried are just so darn sweet. I know there has to be some sweetness to counteract the acidity of the tomatoes, but at the same time, we would prefer our end product to be more savory than sweet. The last one I tried was so sweet it reminded me of candied apples! If anyone has a good recipe, please share. Quote Link to comment
Canned Nerd
Here is a simple recipe you might try and adjust the sugar to your taste. Of course you could add any other spices that might interest your taste buds. Liss' Ketchup TNT1 cup tomato sauce2 Tbsp sugar3 Tbsp vinegar1/2 tsp salt1/8 tsp ground cloves1. Combine everything in a small bowl, stirring well, let set at least 30 minutes for flavors to mingle.2. The cloves really adds the zip. I also added a touch of black pepper.Web Page: http://www.budget101.com/scratch-recipes-storebought-items/liss-ketchup-tnt-1520.html Quote Link to comment
Ambergris
I like a pinch of allspice and a dash of cayenne in my ketchup. Quote Link to comment
