  1. It is times like this when I should be sleeping and not trying something new? thanks for the post on how to get them up there. And I think it may be in the wrong spot but I couldn't find where else to put it? it is a dessert or snack?
  2. MAn THAT was HARD but I got it in at last.......... you really have to look to see where to post new recipes? I think I need to go and make some now I am so tired from posting
  3. OK so THAT didn't work? I opened the 'recipe box' but can't seem to find where/how to post a new recipe?
  4. Well you see last year we taps a few trees to make maple syrup. . . . And this year we are helping our Amish Friends Family (Ben's) tap the trees on their hill. So far there are 550 taps (plan is to get 700 befroe the flow starts). AND yes they are not using pails but running lines. Saturday we need to go and get a big (1000 gal.) Tank from a Engish friend to store the sap as it has started running already and the sugar house is not done yet. HAve the evaporater set up but still need to close in the walls. Had some samples the other night (cooked on on the wood stove) and it is so sweet. So now when we are not working at the Greenhouse (we have seedlings in 3 greenhouses going already) we are over at Ben's taping trees and setting things up, or we are helping David get his workshop built, or running plants and seeds between the othe Amish greenhouses, or just hanginf out with them enjoying life in the winter time.
  5. I love your homestead...and your kitty cat Tobie and the trains are a riot. You guys are nifty folk.

  6. Today (Thursday) we have to be at the Amish Greenhouse by 7 am (up at 5:30 am)to start work for the day. There is a Amish Wedding in town and everyone will be going so we get to run the Greenhouse for the day. Have a shipment of plant plugs coming in the morning so that will keep us busy most of the day replanting them. Also need to get more Herbs going and more onions too seeing we will have a very busy year again like last year with everyone wanting to start a garden for the first time. With it still be so cold outside I will spend the day keeping the wood stoves going in all the Greenhouses. But I tell you - nothing bets having to drive there in the cold and snowy winter and then getting to go inside to work with the warmth of the greenhouse and the sweet smell of promix in the air.
  7. so here we are - the start of another day in upstate New York.
  8. checking this here and now so I can find it later on . . . . well I guess I will not be making it until next week? OR NEXT YEAR!

We have used these for years. they are good for all kinds of things from seed markers to paint sticks to bookmarks. And we get some in color to use as well.

SORRY Dear . . . . it was a joke! We also don't do EVERYTHING they do when it comes to canning

Please post a list of all the Amish that have died from canning this way? Thanks
  12. might be what we call snowball blocks? they look like a stop sign in a square? ~Michael~
  13. the price of a lot of the foods we eat will be going up more and more in the next few weeks due to the bad weather, the price of gas, the dry spells & well, because they can do it!
  14. Thanks - We are way to busy again! Was hoping to MAYBE slow down a bit - but THAT never happens! This past week we told everyone we were taking a brake so we can sit at home and rest a bit. . . . well Monday came and I had to drive and then help out at the one farm, Tuesday got a call to help out with siding the school entry way and unpacking the school supplies then work in our garden after supper, Wednesday was Quilting in the morning and running feed around to some of the Amish farms then cooking down a bushel of tomatoes for sauce, Thursday (Lori's day off of work)up at 5:30 and we went over to the Greenhouse were we worked this spring and spent the morning putting away the skids, tables, and cleaning up the display areas, then shopping, working in garden. Then Friday was a slow day just went yard saleing and got some canning done here then out to camp to play cards until 10:30. Now here it is Saturday and I just got a call to drive this am and we also are going shopping with Amish friends. Then over to Ben's to pick for the rest of the day for Market. BUT! Other then that we ARE resting this week?
