  1. Good grief…. I put 100 seed onions in a zip lock for my brother in MT…added a couple extra handfuls… because the box has, at least 500+ more!!!  Planted 6 tiny tiny ones in my spice garden.  I didn’t realize those seeds were still good…..  PTL!  Now, to figure out what to do with them all & how long they will survive unplanted…..

Anyone want red seed onions?  PM me.

  2. Ok, something decided to flatten my onion patch, in about 2 months it flattened all but the ones that were seeding.  Sooo, I dug ‘em up.  Box with shredded Manila paper, so far, I’m estimating over 500+ onions, seed onions.  Some are tiny, and a variety, up to the size of a silver dollar.  So, because next year is my yard’s Sabbath, I will replant when the heat cools down.  IDK how many years the seed onions will last in storage, in our heat… DH doesn’t want the house smelling like onion..  lol

I planted, 20 yr old seeds, saved outside in our extreme heat, I never imagined they would produce anything. Yikes…. Salvaged greens, are refrigerated right now to cut & dehydrate for chives.  Probably have a couple dozen to process before I a done. Wow!

  3. ETA:

Several years ago, Dial & Palmolive changed their formulas…..I was extremely allergic to what ever they changed in their soaps.  I wrote both companies about it.

Dial, actually emailed me back and called me.  Their quality control and medical departments, on several occasions.  We discussed how I could tell.  I explained, and gave them my reaction to the ‘new & improved’ products, and asked/begged them to continue their “original” products.  They actually did!

Palmolive, did not.  They produced a new unscented brand, but, whatever the ‘new’ ingredient is, it’s in their unscented product also.

  4. Yikes!  Only 1/16th done today….  :sigh:  Forgive my ‘book’…..

I am extremely allergic to scents.  Unscented everything… oddly enough, Simple Green, Dial, & one Lysol cleaning solution does not bother me, that much.  Unscented cleaners are my relief.

Got Mom’s bed, stripped it down to the mattress cover, hung her electric blanket out for 36 hours…still stinks.  :imoksmiley: Folded it up & put it in a plastic, zippered square package, with the electric parts.  Washed, the sheets, & mattress cover, extra blankets, and the pillows….  She uses, hair spray, conditioners, creams, lotions, potions, tons of makeup and a plethora of other things to make her beautiful….  I washed, just the top of my art desk…and trashed the cleaning rag….black with whatever, cookie, granola bars, KitKat crumbs & tissues everywhere, spilt water, coffee & other stuff, I don’t think I will ever be able to identify…..  :sigh:

So, that being said, when I did the last load of laundry, before taking Mom home, pulling the wet clothes out, popped the fabric softener cap off the center column.  I’ve been trying, since we got our new ‘used’ washer.  I ran bleach, baking soda, vinegar and unscented laundry soap through several washes, before using it to wash my clothes… it reeked of scented soaps!  But, because my clothes weren’t effected, I decided, that was fine…just hold my breath while changing loads……. However, when the softener lid popped off….. I was appalled!  Seriously…. Mold, caked on detergent, fabric softener and, I don’t know what else…. Overwhelming nasty smell.  Sooo…. I set the cap in the barrel, covered them and took mom home.

It took me 2 hours to scrub that center column out, tooth brush, scotch green scrubbing pad and bleach!  Good grief it was nasty!  Soaking the cap in bleach, half the day, still didn’t remove the smell.  I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but the products the sell now days….”fresh scent” for weeks…. You wouldn’t believe how many things I throw away, because there is no way to remove those smells!  My eyes & nose water, my lungs get congested, my throat tightens…coughing, sneezing and unable to take a deep breath…. Meh…. Nasty stuff.  If’n it smells like that, IMHO, it isn’t clean….

So, tomorrow, my cleaning adventures continue…. Coffee, & drinks spilt on the area rugs… will need to wash them and the covers on the LR furniture….  :sigh:

  5. Finished the beets… 5 bags/meals of greens and 7 of beets.

They were still warm when I bagged them, steamy.  Surprisingly, there were more white beets, than reds.  Tastes the same.    Seeds are drying out for next year.

  6. Wow!  Just WOW!

Had a customer call, asking questions, DH let the dogs out and them in.  I was changing laundry out in the back yard.  Let the pups in the back room, telling Storm ‘Hush & to be quiet’.  When I came through the kitchen door, she was on the phone, wondering towards my kitchen…. As soon as she saw me, the look of shock crossed her face, she stopped cold in her tracks and stiffened up, she told, who ever, she’d call them back….  I moved forward to the doorway to the LR & kitchen…she took a few steps towards me, I took one step back and leaned against the frig.  She stopped, but continued to scan my shelves….  Made me feel very uncomfortable.  Then, Storm started talking crap, rrrrow, grrr, whine, etc.  she asked what type of dogs.  I explained, the shepherd was not people friendly and we have a large hound.  She wanted to see them, I hesitated, but let her, she totally freaked out when she realized we do not have glass in the door window…(ventilation for the back room).  Of course, Storm jumped up on the window sill, causing her to back off.  I tried to tell her he wasn’t friendly to strangers…. She glanced around my kitchen, then went back into the LR to the customer chairs.

I’m a private person, you don’t need to see what’s behind the curtains on my bookcase, nor under the white towels covering my appliances….  As it was, she ‘might think’ I haven’t put my groceries away yet.

So very uncomfortable…. I don’t know her, she doesn’t need to be poking through my supplies!

DH said she didn’t sit down until she’d looked at all his credentials and all the stuff on the LR desk!

REALLY?….  Who does that?  Good grief!

  8. Pulled all but 3 carrots….in a 4’ x 4’ area… the ones on the ground were transplanted into another plot.  The 3 remaining are for seeds…

    IMG_7768.jpeg

    Washed & peeled….

    IMG_7776.jpeg

    Sliced & diced…

    IMG_7777.jpeg

    14 pints done… 11 more in the canner….

    IMG_7780.jpeg

That does not include 5 more pounds, either too small to peel or the split was too invasive to salvage nice pieces.  Those are going to be refrigerated and used for shredding into salads or just munching.

  11. We have an old hot tub with a lid.  Chlorinated regularly.  Use it when our water goes out to flush, cleaning, etc.  I drain it regularly, to water the yard, refill & enjoy it until it gets too hot…110° is too hot, but the lawn loves it.  35 years old, it needs parts…. Still, it’s 500 gallons of gray water….

$10,000…wouldn’t cover the cost for new windows…. Ours are 68 years old and they quote close to $25,000 to replace.  Plumbing is the same, quoted at $35,000.  :sigh:  Big ticket items….

With ten, maybe save it, cashed out, in the safe…..

  12. Sweet Lady, Jeepers.  You have endured so very much.  Maybe rent one of those big U-Haul trucks to do a round trip, to speed the process up.  Leave the “remodel/repair to the insurance company, insisting what you require the finished value needs to be…including your expected profit, inconvenience, and compensation for being displaced.  I’m sure you have kept records, date, times, progress, etc… Plus, you have MrsS posts that a Lawyer would love to use to compensate your ‘pain & suffering’ you have dealt with.  I’m not one to push the issue, but, 4 months without your home, robbery and loss of your privacy, would be something they would consider as a viable claim against an insurance company.  Just saying.

  13. Lol…Peter Rabbit…

    I have a story… wanna hear?

My next door neighbor, his name was actually Peter, across our “alley/easement”, technically his/my property, according to the original plot map, I still have…..  anyway, we used to have coffee at my fence every single morning…chat, talk about gardening…he was a “master gardener”, PhD and all.  One year, he designed his front yard, with many height layers, and with porcelain rabbits, 100, at least, looking like a family community….. I still have pictures…. Loved it, before he changed the design… he always made me laugh…. Sadly, he’s passed…I miss him… anyway, now, a rabbit has decided to live in that yard, visiting my garden daily…. Lol. Dogs are not amused….  Yes, Peter’s rabbit is visiting.   :008Laughing:

  14. The Spice garden is full…

German camomile, at the top, tiny sprouts of common thyme, a potato plant & pumpkin volunteer from the mulch, and possibly a volunteer watermelon.  The picture doesn’t show the cayenne pepper plants, they barely sprouted.

    Walking counter clockwise …

More volunteer pumpkins, providing ground shade for the garden thyme.

  15. Here’s what is left to do…

    39DE5614-8E26-4F24-9FAA-DAD163BE4BF7.jpeg

Onions, in front, were seeds from 5 years ago, planted around September.  They need to be thinned/transplanted.  The right side behind them, are the carrots…already seeding, I need to get them out and will save the seeds, again.  Left side are the beets…same thing, already seeding/bolting.  :sigh:

  17. Yes, Becca-Anne I’m ‘in awe’ about that room.  Fabulous.  My kitchen doesn’t have that much space. :008Laughing:

    Mt_Rider, praying…. Yes, God knows…

Hoping things get resolved with your live-in, Littlesister.

Miki, you amaze me how much you do…. Keep going Lady.  Eggs….Saturday I made potato salad and “Angel” eggs for MIL & DH…. I had two….they are gone.  :grinning-smiley-044:

DH’s apt was inspiring.  Changed from Brilinta to Xarelto…lower dose. And the Dr. said if he has a problem with it, he can quit it.  Plus, changed his blood pressure meds, two times a day instead of once a day…. He said it’s in his ‘jeans’, they are too tight….  I said, “…see, I told you to quit wearing tight jeans.”  We had a good laugh and the tech next room over, was still laughing when we walked out.  His recommendation, just the BP meds & baby aspirin should not be stopped.  DH is going to continue with everything & see how he feels.  Next appointment will be in September.  :cele:

Oh, Mother, you are right….  I can’t wait to see Becca-Anne’s Christmas tree in there.  :happy0203:
