  1. Well…darn it.

Ran out of red, figured how to add it.  It’s the chain, not the round.  Then, to my dismay, ran out of black… I didn’t do a good job connecting the black… :sigh:

I will finish this one, but for his Bible, I will make another….
    Pics after I get done.

ETA:  :groooansmileyf: I used the wrong thread to connect… sewing thread, not tatting thread… I feel so stupid… attached the right thread…this is going to be interesting if it turns out. Lol.

  2. Becca_Anne, optometrist said he saw a cataract in the back of my right eye… makes for double vision and blurred vision in that eye.  But God is merciful and I have learned to focus with my left eye.

  3. Eye sight, yup, it is an issue.  That’s why I have a stash of readers…3,4,5,6, & 7 magnification….    I actually put them on over my prescription glasses…which I need to get new ones.. . :sigh:

Mother, my Great Aunt showed me how to tat, when I was 7.  Told me, never forget one stitch is two stitches, “over, under”. So, it’s actually, technically, a ‘double stitch’.

I played with threads, strings, and ropes, through the years, making the tatting knot.  But, never made anything out of it.  Then, we were at a used bookstore & I found this book.  And made my first medallion.  DH still has it somewhere.  Lol

Funny thing, I can do so many different stitch patterns and techniques, but, knitting baffles me…. I can do the basic stitch, but to master all the this & thats…. It’s beyond my understanding.  Lol

Anyway, I will post a few pages, to give you an idea of ‘how to’ tat. I need to edit my pics and post them in order.

In the meantime, I tried to find the cross I made DH, but it isn’t in his Bible anymore….so, I’ve been working on making him another one….hopefully without errors…. I have had to start over once, and now realized, one of my bobbin threads, was wound over another color, so there isn’t enough thread to complete the pattern…. However, if I successfully join the new thread, I will “try to “ post, ‘how to’ do that too.

  4. Yes, mass production, in a factory, where an assembly line moves the painting from one person to another, each adding their job strokes to the canvas.  I’ve seen a plethora of videos showing how it is done…. Makes, selling ‘hand made’ very difficult.  BTDT, still never made enough to feed myself, in over 50 years…...:coffeescreen:

  5. Here’s the pattern….

I’ve done numerous variations of color, but red in the center & black on the outside, seem to be the most attractive, IMHO.

    Here’s the finished one

  6. Ok, I know my pictures are gone… but I will try to see if I can edit this post and share “how to Tat” with anyone who wants to know….

Plus, I was looking for a specific one I had done, and it’s not in DH’s Bible where I last remember it being…so, he needs a new one….  I will try to post pics as I go…..

    • Thanks 1
  7. Lol, Jeepers, I’m jealous….  I grew up using milk cans, straining the buckets of hand squeezed milk, through a large funnel with a filter, to sell.  I have a popcorn can that looks like a milk can, that I keep bird seed in.  Memories… priceless memories.  Around here, those cans go for $200+ each!  :sigh:

I’d love to see pics of how you manage to save your treasures….  Looking forward to it…..  :happy0203:

  8. We don’t have access to feta, and my DH doesn’t like dumplings.  Otherwise I would offer any suggestions I knew of.  Sorry. :sigh:

He likes traditional biscuits.  With the exception of ‘Red Lobsters” cheesy biscuits.

2 C Bisquick original baking mix

    1/2 C shredded cheddar cheese

    1/2 C milk

    2 Tbs butter

    1/8 tsp garlic powder

Heat oven to 450°F.  Stir baking mix, cheese, melted butter, garlic & milk. Drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake 8-10 min.

    High altitude… 475° 9-10 min.

Note:  I add more cheddar cheese, butter & garlic….

If I remember correctly, there is a thread here, somewhere, that has a recipe to make Bisquick from scratch….

  9. Littlesister, it doesn’t take much.  Get an idea, look it up on-line and you’ll see you have the talents to accomplish anything you want to.

If I had the net, back then, maybe I’d have been able to advance further.  Lol.

Kinda like what Jeepers is doing.  Find a design, figure out what/how you would like it & search the net…you will get a plethora of options and ideas.

I am old school…. The net has a tremendous amount of potential ideas, however… I kinda like to forge new paths… if that makes any sense at all.

  10. Also, @euphrasyne, I really admire your talent and creativity.  Something I seriously lack.  Give me a pic or a pattern, and I can, sort of, copy it.  But to just create it out of thin air…. Nope, ain’t gonna happen.  Lol

  11. Thank you Jeepers, if’n you need any help, just ask.

Good grief…memories..back in the ‘60’s & ‘70’s, when I was first selling my work, if you wanted a picture, you had to use a camera with film, then, find a place to develop it… none of the ‘quick snap’ the cell phones give us today.

    Good grief…I feel old….  :sigh:

  12. Oh, my goodness, you brought back a plethora of memories…

My mother was always supportive of my artwork.  She kept my kindergarten sponge painting of a tree, put it in my baby book, then gave it to me when I turned 40.

She encouraged me to make art my major in school.  By 6th grate, I had completed Art 1-4 with strait A’s.  By 8th grade, I had completed Advanced Art 1-4 and was enrolled into College art 1-4. By my senior year, I earned a scholarship in art… but I messed it up by quitting school.. nuf said.

Mom, however, never gave up on me.  She got my first email address, which I still have today, and registered my Artist name.  I built my site, posted all the artwork I had done through the years… I never got one commission to do anything… unless you count family wanting ‘free’ stuff.  Yes, I still own my domain name, but cannot promote myself….

With the way the net has advanced, I am completely unable to keep up with it, nor do I even care….  Sad, but true.

  13. Jeepers, spritz with water & iron, that’ll flatten the threads nicely and if’n you want, use a touch of spray starch.  BTDT.

Thanks Littlesister, I have been a professional artist, since 6th grade, creating paintings and selling them through the years.  My art teacher used to sell my school projects…. I developed an allergy to oil paints and acrylic, that’s why I transitioned to pastel chalk.  Pastel pencils seem to me, as a ‘cheat’.  Did several years, creating our local church bulletins each week.  The pastor moved on, & that was the end.  A co-worker had an ostrich farm, she & I started, trade marked & trade named “Broken Dreams”…Artwork on & with broken pieces of ostrich eggshells.  Her husband and MIL, who was living with her, passed, both in the same year. She sold me her portion of the business and all properties.  Then gave me a plethora of shell…she sold the ostriches and her farm and moved away.. I don’t blame her, at all.  So, I still dabble with the shells.  Ink & paint on the outside, pastel miniatures on the inside of the shells.  However, I only do them now, if someone wants to pay.  It is what it is.  I’m getting older, less motivated and especially do not like to promote myself……. :yuk:

  15. MIL called yesterday, a very strong whirlwind tore her shingles off half her roof.  Insurance is covering it, minus the deductible and has someone coming today to estimate the damage & cost.  Then will begin replacing her whole roof on Tuesday.  No other homes in her neighborhood were effected.
