  1. Trying to catch up on reading, here.  Wow, everyone has been busy.

Praying all is well with everyone, given the circumstances.  God knows.

    I’ve been swamped…

Year end accounting, business reports, meetings, taxes, & customers, (the proposed bans have ppl buying everything they can afford. ), springtime yard work, trimming trees, pulling & cutting weeds, preparing to send DH to TX this month.  Just one thing after another.

  2. Home from TX.

    Long list of ToDo’s.

     I now have a “pre-ban” refurbished washer, with a 3 year warranty!!!!

First load, revealed how much soap was still in the clothes….  wow… no wonder they didn’t feel clean before.  The white load came out brilliant, instead of a dingy gray.

    :cele:

  3. Harvest time, (when I return from TX).  I drape old sheets over the racks, for frost protection.  Not very professional looking, but it worked.  :ashamed0002:

Need to prep and plant for the spring.

  4. Jeepers. :pray::pray::pray:

Bought some clear caulking, to seal the windows…. Lots of dust coming in…. Dust storms…. Typical.   Cleaned the kitchen window, good grief it was bad.  DH got up and asked if it was sunny out.  I laughed… he laughed when he walked into the kitchen. “Wow, it’s clean! “  Just a couple of cracks in the caulking that need to be filled.  Bathroom was next.  Major project. Finished & prepped my office windows.

We got a piece of gravel stop, to put over the door & washer & dryer to divert the frost drippings.  He was about to cut it to size, when the dogs chased a round tailed squirrel into the shed.  He got his pellet gun out, set it up & popped it…..  sadly, it wasn’t a head shot,….  So, tomorrow, I will be cleaning the shed, again… my annual rearranging…..  early… I usually do it around April, warmer weather…..  :sigh:

  5. Jeepers, goodness, I’m so sorry for your loss! However, depending upon your policy, document every little thing!  BTD!    Yes, they will cover direct costs, floors, ceilings, basements, & storage items.  Depending upon the policy you had/have, they might even cover perishables, to an extent.  Either way, I’d push the issue, an elderly Lady, trying to avoid cost of living prices.  If’n your agent is old enough, they could very well include the loss of clothes, furniture and food.

I played the “old” card, when MIL’s house was  burnt by the neighbors house.  The insurance company made an extra effort to fix & replace , and restore…. her house.   I threatened them, that they were trying to kill an old lady…..

  6. Jeepers, I am so sorry you have so much happen at one time.

Given the severity of the situation, the insurance company should help clean out all the damaged items…easing you from having to carry heavy wet stuff…. create a list, perishables included.  I would list the items at today’s prices, not what you purchased them for.  They ‘should’ reimburse a large portion.  Non perishable items, include on your list, with the approximate values also.  Even if you think they won’t cover it, list it anyway.

Stop for gas, heard several people talking about SW Airlines, provided them rent-a-cars to get home, since their computers were down!  Wow….

More traffic than I expected, stressed, DH drove the last half, my headache was screaming at me.  :shakinghead:

  8. My old beans, (10 yrs.). I’ve put in a flat porcelain baking pan, on top of a paper towel, covered with plastic wrap , then, covered with a light cotton towel, in a semi warm place, rinsed daily until they start to swell.  Hence, begin to grow.  Rinsed with cold water daily, then I cook them.  IDK what type of beans you are using, but navy beans, pinto beans, mung beans, and a plethora of other beans have all began to grow, after a few days to a week or so, of soaking, like that.

  9. My Uncle wrote a comment…. Something we were all told, many times….

    Quote

A.M.Bothne was my father. I read his story on Pearl Harbor when I was 12. He had written it up for Navy at Sea, but they went under before doing his story of the Navy Cross. After I went into the Navy he told me about the Navy Marine Medal. He got one guy out and went down for more when he started to pass out and they grabbed him from above and pulled him out. He also told me the real story about the Arizona, They evacuated it 3 times and went back all 3 times to fight the fires to save it. When the fire got to the Forward Powder Mag, that is when the bottom was blown out and it sank with all the men aboard. No Bomb sank it by itself, but the fires from the bombing. The Arizona was targeted because all her guns were uncased as they had an inspection due on that Sunday.

Adolph M. Bothne’s Navy Cross citation

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the NAVY CROSS to

    ADOLPH M. BOTHNE

    BOATSWAIN
    U.S. NAVY

for service as set forth in the following

    CITATION:

for exceptional courage, presence of mind, and devotion to duty and disregard for his personal safety while serving on board the Battleship U.S.S. OKLAHOMA (BB-37), during the Japanese attack on the United States Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii, on 7 December 1941. Upon the U.S.S. OKLAHOMA capsizing within ten minutes after the attack began, Boatswain Bothne pulled himself into a motor launch of which he acted as coxswain. By skillful handling, he succeeded in picking up a boatload of survivors from the water and landed them at Ford Island. He then returned to the vicinity of the U.S.S. OKLAHOMA and rescued another boatload of survivors, all who remained in sight of that area, and landed them at Ford Island also. Thereafter throughout the remainder of the attack, despite severe bombing and strafing, he patrolled the battleship line in search of more survivors. Furthermore, subsequent to the attack, he assisted most efficiently in fighting fires and in the rescue of personnel trapped in the U.S.S. OKLAHOMA. The conduct of Boatswain Bothne throughout this action reflects great credit upon himself, and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

  11. This evening was a blessing.

A customer came & brought his son (I’m assuming 6-7 yr old.). He had a game counsel, said he won a game of chess.  I told him I had a real chess board & play against myself.  He jumped up to see and asked if we could play a game.  Yikes, I had to dust it off!  :imoksmiley:We played a game.  He was so excited.  I tried to let him win, letting him “undo” many moves, explaining, why he shouldn’t make that particular move.  “Oh!, I didn’t know that!”  We had fun, dad made him say thank you…   He asked if I knew how to play Mancala, I said yes, but I only have the board game, not on the computer…. His reply was “Really?” With a huge smile on his face.  So… probably next time we will play that….

I had a wonderful time, entertained a kid, while dad & DH ‘worked’.
