  4. Lowie.... during deer and elk season back home I used to drive up and down the roads near the ranch and beat the horn, shoot guns in the air and have my kids beat on pots and pans to scare away the big game! I really dont like hunters who hunt for sport to hand a trophy head on their wall and then complain they dont like the taste of wild game meat! They are idiots too and one shot my BULL...

    I wanna homestead!

Hi Sarah! If you want to have a homestead, be very sure all of you want it. Make sure you plan, and plan, and plan before the move also. Before we moved to the ranch, I canned, and preserved, and bought food supplies on sale for nearly 6 months.... most of the boxes I moved were food! I knew we were moving to mountainous area of northern Arizona where it snowed and I knew that there would be times we would be snowed in with 5 teenagers in the house. I bought extra cleaning supplies and sanitary needs as well and lots of games... we lived with oil lamps for the first month until we got some solar panels and our generator. TV was no big deal, we had satellite, but most of the time everyone prefered games after the chores and supper were done. if you aren't gonna have a frig for awhile, ice chests will do... in the winter I emptied out the freezer and buried the frozen stuff in a large snow drift that I iced very thickly with water and made sure the food was in metal trash cans with secure lids to keep the wild critters out of it.
  9. Just wanted to let all of you know that I have been receiving my ornaments. Things are a little better financially now and Mine will go out in tomorrows mail. Sorry I'm so late in mailing them. Kim. Snowmom,Goosie, Becka,Reci,Westy, Lowlander... your ornaments are just beautiful! Everyone here is so talented ! twi

  11. Hmmmmmm how can we decorate this for Ed? Stringing up the mistletoe over the shop door. I'm sure Peg wouldn't mind us giving Big Brother a holiday smooch if we caught him under the mistletoe! Have the tree all set up in the corner... pulling the infamous oil funnel off wall and spray painting it gold to use for the tree topper. These wrenches would make great icecicles if we glue sparkley glitter on em! Anyone else have any suggestions?

    Another Loss

My heart is with you Mare... it is very rare that a Boss is loved as yours was. twi
  18. Aren't holiday traditions wonderful. I'm ashamed to say that when my children were smaller I put or tree up the day after Thanksgiving and did so every year even after they left home. Since moving here to New Jersey My heart isnt in it anymore... Maybe I'm being selfish, but I just cant do it anymore, I just dont have the heart to share the traditions I had with my own children and grandchildren for all these years. I'm trying hard to establish new traditions here with the little munchkin.Today we dug out the sea shells from the shore and the little guy and I are deciding which ones to use to make ornaments for the tree. I'm also going to make a tomato cage christmas tree that is solely decorated with the gifts from the sea that we have been so lucky to collect. Maybe the holiday spirit will come upon me soon, but it is so hard when I am so far away from my own children too. [This message has been edited by twilap (edited December 06, 2002).]
  19. I got an email notice that I will be receiving my book in a few weeks.
  20. She is such a sweet child my DD#1. Being a Mama herself, she realizes the importance of love, and traditions within the family. And now that she has found her church and her beliefs I am even more happy. I never swayed my children towards one church or one belief, I taught them to love god and themselves and to do right by others. I taught them the Golden Rule and hopefully they will live by it. Twi
