  1. Our winters have been very mild over the past 15 years lowlander. Last Christmas it was in the upper 70 degrees and seemed more like summer. We use to have snowfalls that would practically bury your cars and parts of our homes they were so bad and it took people days to shovel out of their homes. Either the heavy snows knocked out our electric or a good ice storm left us in the dark for a couple of days to a few weeks also. The enviroment has sure changed alot since I was younger. Pretty soon all our snow will shift south for the winter while we have the south US's balmy and warm weather.
  2. Hey Wheeler, I just have to go out and get the Disney Mannheim CD. It sounds great. Have you ever been to Chip Davis's website. Check it out. You can order online from the sight. Just go to www.mannheimsteamroller.com or www.americangrammaphone.com
  3. Isn't everyones advice great Happy? I hope your girly girl is feeling much better by now. I also hate when kids are sick. I know I feel helpless when any loved one of mine is sick and wish I can kiss it and make it all better. Thats the mom in me I guess. Take care and God Bless.
  4. Our prayers are with you and your brother and his family.
  5. Now B&N U has added credit courses that you can apply to a college degree. These are the courses that you pay for. For those who just want to learn there are regular courses you can take for free. Before you buy books check your local library to see if they have copies of what you need and if they don't ask them to do interlibrary loan to get you the books you need.
  6. Just flurries - boy would I love a big blizzard right about now!
  7. Cat you and I are kindred spirits along with Wheeler! Those old tapes. cd's and Christmas movies get dusted off and listened too and watched when the July heat is steaming. Isn't Chip Davis great Wheeler? I didn't know he had a video out. I will have to check in all the local stores soon to see if I can find a copy.
  8. LogCabinMama I just finished reading this book and its a very emotional read. I was wiped out after I finished it.
  9. I confess! I have been. I have some great cd's. If you like Judy Collins her Christmas CD " Live at the Biltmore," is great and Manheim Steamroller with Chip Davis as usual gives some great holiday tunes. Its time to pull out the Christmas Tapes and DVD's. I think I will start watching them this weekend beginning with Emmet Otters Jug Band Christmas a little Jim Henson ditty thats wonderful for big kids as well as little ones. Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation will make a nice touch to The Saturday evening movie fest also.
  10. Hope All is well with you. Your always in my daily mantras and thoughts along with everyone else here on the board. Save me some of those Oranges from your tree. We were actually thinking about doing an overnite Orange run to Florida to stock up and to bring back here. Are your fruit prices going up this winter. We usually buy our oranges from our area high school band club but they are not going to be selling them this year. It seems like the local stores are selling overripe fruits lately so I feel like I am wasting my money. Anyway I hope this post finds you happy, healthy, content and blessed.
  11. That is super Lowlander! Carla Emerys Book is like the Bible for Homesteaders. Keep us posted on your endeavor without revealing book information. I can't wait till the new book comes out. I will be first in line at B&N to buy it.
  12. Lowlander I will trade you one Jackson Browne for a Mark O'Shea.
  13. I sure do remember Red Skelton Cat and have some of his old tapes. I adored him when I was a young thing. Now Lowlander about Billy Connelly I think he is a hoot along with my other favorites Benny Hill- I just love the old reruns of Benny's shows and I am a Are You Being Served, One Foot In the Grave and Keeping Up Appearences Fan! I love Onslo and Daisy and of course Richard and Hyacynth Bucket and I can't forget the great Monty Python, Waiting for God and Ab Fab. I am a big Father Ted Fan too . I just love Dermot Morgan, Ardel O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly and Pauline McLynn. Father Ted is my hero. As for US comedy Mel Brooks is my favorite along with Vickie Lawrence, Carol Burnett, Tim Conway, Jerry Lewis and Bill Cosby. There are not to many " clean mouthed" comediens around although I am known to like a bit of "The" George Carlin.
  14. This is a great question. Thinking back to when I was 5 years of age I remember sitting watching Lawrence Welk with my grandmother on Saturday Nights and I fell head over heals for Myron Floren the accordian player on the show. I would get all giggy like and starry eyed when Ol Myron started playing the keys... Now in my preteen and teen years my first loves would have to be Ringo Starr and Peter Tork. I liked the guys with big noses I guess. Today I am over the moon with only one and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I did forget one thing. Richard Clayderman is a hunko hunk of burnin love along with Sean Connery, John Rhys Davies, and Mark O'Shea the herpetologist. [This message has been edited by reci (edited October 07, 2002).]
  15. Congrats on your upcoming wedding. Your invite is real cute and I think the idea of having a hoe down reception is an original great theme for a celebration. Have a great day and enjoy yourself.
  16. Debbie Lee has the right idea....I have the perfect icon for that look you described Debbielee but I won't post it because it just might scare Ed and we don't want to tramatize him do we ladies..LOL A couple of times a year my DH has to travel because of his job and when he is out of meetings we spend alot of time on the phone. I hate those trips and so does he because we are apart. He wants to take me with him but we have to find critter sitters before I can go. I don't want to put my babies in one of those kitty and canine hotels. I want them to stay home.
  17. Your making me hungry Ed... I can go for a mess of crab legs right now or some crab cakes. Our property is split between the city and town so our home is located on a mountain in the city but the bulk of our land is in the town- 2x the taxes, not fair but thats the way it worked....anyway there are alot of signs up on the upper fields but not alot yet in the lower section that its going to be a hard winter. The deer are coming closer to the city and I spotted a black bear in the field last week, no doubt looking for food. The deer are awful thin this year and that usually means a warmer winter for us not a hard winter. We will just have to wait and see what conspires. I would love to see a few feet of snow right about now on our land.
  18. Your son and his family and you and your family are in our prayers. We are living in hard times. Just know we are here for you if you need us.

    Mozart

How exciting LogCabinMama. I would love to read your family genealogy. I love Mozarts music and I find your information enthralling. To have played Mozart the great masters own keyboard and pipe organ at his church is very exciting indeed and to top it off to think that he wrote your great great..grandmothers music just for them, thats the ultimate. If you have children you will be reading a poem very shortly for them around Christmas. You may have heard of it? It is called " Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clark Moore ( and he did write the poem which was under dispute) a direct great great........great uncle of my husbands. His side of the family were noted for revolutionary and civil war hero's as well as being direct decendants of royalty in England. In this country there are monuments and towns and waterfronts and other cites that bare our last name.
  20. We had one shower and our wedding party threw us a big barbeque at a local park, they rented the pavilion and bought all the food-and desserts plus a cake, plus they chipped in for steak, lobster and chicken to be grilled for all the guests. Over 120 were invited to the shower and all showed up. Mike and I had a wonderful time as well as everyone else. It shows you that people can have a blast without having liquor at these types of parties. Some of the gifts at the shower were wild. Some of my attendents got together and filled two huge new garbage cans with canned and boxed food items and spices, anything canned, and they took off all the labels and had the labels in an envelope. It was interesting eating these canned foods and boxed foods because you never know what you were getting when you opened up a can or box and the object of non labeled items was to build a meal around a can that you opened. We didn't have to buy those items for a year. Also they bought us a years supply of toilet paper and made up another garbage can for tools Mike didn't have, He has them all but what could you say... now he has copies... and dish soaps, cleaning products other manly man tools and whatever it is they use to putter around with. That was just from the wedding party and let me tell you we used it all. Having the shower for the couple saves alot of money and everyone male and female get to have a good time together.
  21. LOL- now that is priceless Ed!
  22. Dee

  24. Hey Ed I have a great acoustical S and G thats a rare copy of their early hits. Only 100 were made. My music collection is very extensive since I have been collecting since my teens. The only music that I dont have a major collection of is the who done me and my sisters girlfriend wrong country type of music although I just love bluegrass and I like some of Clint Black, Garth Brooks and Kathy Mattea's music. How about Manheim Steamroller? Chip Davis's music is mellow especially the Manheim Steamroller Christmas.I like and own all the music mentioned here. I guess I am just a young hippie leftover. John Denver is still the man...... & [This message has been edited by reci (edited October 01, 2002).]
