  1. I started stitching my last Christmas ornament this week. Some of you may remember them, I entered them in the "Mrs Survival County Fair" last year. It's a set of four miniature Christmas stockings, and I've made four sets. It didn't seem like such an ambitious project until my hands stiffened up. After that it was hopeless. As soon as I finish stitching this one I can sew the backing on them and viola!!! they are finished!! I can actually give them as gifts to my Mom & sisters this year as I've always intended. Today I stopped at the craft store and finally found a Christmas stocking kit that was suitable for my nephew. I made one for my neice, who's now ten, and had it ready for her when she was born. Well, that is a lovely pattern but I don't think pastel colors and bunnies are a safe bet for a boy! I didn't want to make him something he would hate by the time he was 12. I found a kit with a snowman and lots of kitties and the colors are bolder, so I think it will be something he likes both now and later. I won't have it done by this Christmas, but I should be able to do it by next year. He'll be four, just about to turn five by then so it's not too late. He was adopted, so I didn't have nine months to work on his like I did for my neice. I also picked up a booklet of crocheted rug patterns.....remember the musty trunk full of yarn?????? It's gonna be rugs by spring!! ------------------
  2. On set of Grandparents married on Grandma's 20th birthday. Then Grampa died 9 days after her 47th birthday. ------------------
  3. So far, my thickest "brick wall" is the name Hoskins. Doesn't make much sense....... I was stuck on my Campbell's for a long time, but I think I've finally sorted them out. They're all 3rd, 4th and 5th cousins of each other----gets real messy that way! ------------------

    Ummm....Hi?

Marjorie!!! So good to "see" you again!! We've missed you around here, and more than once in the past year I've wished I could ask you a question or two! ------------------
  9. Cookie, I turned 41 this year and decided, somewhat like Reci, to fight like heck!! I've started taking better care of myself, more exercise, more healthy food, less junk food. I'm looking and feeling better than I have in years. I intend to have Fabulous Forties, Fantastic Fifties and ..... Sexy Sixties?????? ------------------
  10. Good article Midnight Mom. The article doesn't mention it, but soy is bad for people with hypothyroidism too. ------------------
  11. I just may finish the cross stitched Christmas ornaments I've been working on.......for ten years!!! I have an excuse, I've had stiff, painful hands for years now. Now that my hands are well, I've discovered I can cross stitch again! ------------------
  12. "EAT NO CHEESE AND BREAD!!!aND live to talk about it?" Ah yes....there's the tricky part!! lol That's why I still have weight to lose. It's hard to give it all up at once, but the less of that white stuff you eat the easier it will be to lose weight. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Goose Liver (edited August 04, 2002).]
  13. Wow!!! Thanks Snow, that was exactly what I was looking for!! ------------------
  14. I'm not crazy about Slim-Fast, or anything that substitutes good, whole foods for processed foods. My advice would be to remove "white stuff" from your diet: We're talking sugar, flour (bread), cheese, milk, fatty meats (white fat), white potatoes. Add fresh raw fruits and veggies and cooked squash, beans & sweet potatoes. Eat grilled fish and/or chicken. When I do this very, very well.....I lose a pound a day, never go hungry, and feel great. ------------------
  15. OH Spit, I'm so sorry for all your troubles! Most of our school support staff are unionized around here. They DO NOT get laid off during the summer, they are expected to come back the next year. Their salary is based on a specific number of days worked per year, just like the teachers are. They get the summers off and their benefits continue from year to year. Take care of yourself girlfriend. And put those five kids to work!! Some of them must be old enough to get dinner ready, even if it's just grilled cheese sandwiches. ------------------

There are many Christians here Lynnie, and some non-Christians as well. I consider myself a Pagan. I'm sure there are others about, but since we don't discuss religion here I don't know who may or may not also be non-Christian. ------------------
  17. Way to go Ginger!!! ------------------
  18. Lynnie, go near the top of the page and click on the word "profile". That will let you edit what you entered when you first registered. I think our moms always "advise" us out of their own fears, it's just not always what is best for us. Sometimes it's not even what's best for anyone in THIS DECADE. lol (lol=laughing out loud) Nursing is a great idea. It's hard work, but it pays well and there is a real nursing shortage. I have two cousins who work really long days on weekends and get paid for an entire week. That's how desperate their hospital is for nursing staff on the weekends. One of my cousins then runs a Longaberger basket business during the week and does quite well with that too. More power to you girl, you are doing great! ------------------
  19. Yes, we have a few "big brothers" around.....just enough so we don't get TOO bawdy! LOL ------------------
  20. I hear you on that TP Snow!! We just started to buy it again a couple of months ago. And while cleaning I just found about 20 more bars of bath soap. I guess I was real worried about being clean! LOL ------------------
  21. ......to think about CHRISTMAS!!! I've been looking for Christmas Cross Stitch patterns, and of course they're not out yet. By the time they show up it will be too late to make anything for this season. (sigh) You know, I DID find a set of patterns for decorative lid covers for canning jars. I have so many extra jars now that it would be great to fill some and give them as gifts. Remember last year when we talked about soup recipe kits and bath salts??? Does anybody still have those recipes?? ------------------
  22. Congratulations Snowmom!!! How wonderful. ------------------
  23. Junebug, I know it's hard to live with someone who's depressed. Have you asked your daughter what it would take to make her happy?? When I was at my worst in my early 20's, nobody had ever asked me that before. Nobody in my family really knew me. They all thought they did, but their entire image of me was based on assumptions they had made that I was just like my older sister. Mom spent months trying to help me by telling me what I should do to feel better. When my Mom finally asked me what it would take, and I was brave enough to share her what would make me happy, things began to get better. Mom didn't suddenly make things happen for me either. She just listened, took me seriously, and did what she could to help me. (mostly just letting me live at home rent free, which was a big deal) ------------------
  24. So glad to hear she's feeling better! She sounds like one special lady. ------------------
