  1. Ended up trying to go up a very steep 'hill', a mountain ridge really, on Sunday, pushing my electric scooter up the side of the road. I must have gone over 45 minutes doing that so I will say 2 miles worth.

Today walked , mostly flat , just a mile. I am a bit stiff from Sunday's 'work out'.

Sat outside for lunch and chatted with folks who sat down at the picnic table, got about an hour of Vitamin D , the natural way as it was sunny and I was warm enough. :)

  2. Last night Houston To San Antonio, up to 16 to 20 inches rain. My son's inlaws live and work down there so I hope they didnt even try to get to work this morning. It's bad flooding and flash flooding going on and too many water rescues of drivers. Huge mess and homes are being inundated now NW of Houston and the storm is still going on, badly. Hope anyone with friends or relatives or are residents in the area are already on high ground!

  3. ok, the route road I am familiar with that is flatter, south ward of my town does still lead to the trail I am most interested in exploring.

It's supposed to rain sometimes the next two days so probably Tuesday or Wed I can cruise down there. My gosh the road is torn up too, you really have to take your time if you are bicycling. It felt great getting outside, today.

The trail I am thinking of is an easy smooth path all the way up into a canyon area and then it branches off about five-six miles in. At about the three mile mark or less there is a small pond to the north of the trail that is nice to primitive camp at. Its a nice day hike to go there and walk in to the pond and back or walk in to camp overnight and come back the next day. Free. That would be easier than the steep mountain road you have to go over to get to Lincoln Pond.

There is a long creek that goes all the way up to the canyon like area where the trails branch again too. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Both the trail and creek are straight , parallel each other so you can follow either back to to the route road. It's hard to get lost there. So it's a good beginner area to get started again in the out doors. Two higher ridges that keep you in the trail , creek area all along .

  4. Jeepers have you experienced cicadas when they do their thing? I have. First summer I was in the navy, was in NATTC Memphis, TN, the cicadas came on with an incredible never ending raucous noise all day long. I could not handle the noise factor if it was every summer!

It is a good 70 degrees and sunny, bright outside. I decided to ride my wee electric scooter down a road that leads to a road that technically leads to the big pond I wanted to go to. Uh huh. Well..... that road that goes east to the pond...... its way steeper a route than I thought. I was walking up most of it with the scooter lightly throttled to help pull me up the road, lol. Bit of a stiff work out for first thing. Almost to the top and I assumed it was going to lead me to the campground area and fishing areas I was familiar with . Well, evidently it is more complicated , and that 'pond' is way huge!!!!!!!! Way larger than I thought. A nice young couple actually gave me a lift., but they were not from this area, just camped with some friends in more primitive sites , along the western part of this huge pond ( its really a lake, even a good sized lake.) They ended up, in a very round about way getting back on the route road I had thought I would be returning to town on, assumed it was not quite as steep as this first route...... um, nope! In fact its got this great long roller coaster style descent ( in one spot) , coming from the pond, which I did not remember from long ago van rides. It's fine in a car or a motorcycle with brakes, lol, its not ok for that wee scooter. ( electric and lousy brakes) ..... I definitely need to upgrade to something far more road worthy.

The young couple would not take gas money, and kindly dropped me off in my town. They were very nice and it was fun chatting with them.

Ok scratch off more than 23 lb pack and on foot , to go up there. ( Note to self.)

I saw bobcat tracks, yup, verified in my Tom Brown tracking book, near the top of that original part of the road leading to the western part of Lincoln Pond.

It would have been easier to just descend that original road way back to my route road if I had not gotten that nice ride, had I Known it was really some serious miles of back roads the rest of the way. Maps can be deceiving. Ended up much closer to Lake Champlain at one point as we were searching for the state campground I did know.

  5. I am sorry you fell, Mt. Rider. I have done somewhat better lately, myself, getting a little strength back and flexibility, but it is a long road back for me.

I am trying not to push my luck and it really takes presence of mind. It doesn't matter where we walk either, it all takes a lot more thought and focus when we do it if we have problems that affect our stability, coordination and balance... and it is so easy to momentarily get distracted.

  6. Yes, it is accounted for next week in my ten day forecast, windy a bit, rain and snowy junk possible but who knows by the time it gets here, it will just evaporate fast now.

Probably enough to wet things down good for a few hours or so but thats about it here, but closer to you it will be more intense weather. Nebraska had warnings up about it , mostly rain concerns.

    Some flooding ?

  7. Already did. I got some cheap solar spike lights to charge daily and use in my kitchen and bathroom at night so its not utterly dark in them instead of the 4 watt night lights. Screw the power companies. Should drop bill about 15 $ a month, lol.

I will be getting a few more. AT a buck a piece, it works for me.

  8. It was in the mid to high 30's but we still got a blast of snow for a bit today. :mornincoffee: I decided to stay in , warm and cozy instead of walk around in the wind.

mostly it will warm up slowly, more each day except some snow days next week....... so much for an early spring? I think our local farmers must be frustrated by now, watching all this. I just want the greenery to start here.......puhleeezeeeeeeeee.

  9. Two miles walking on April 1st.

2 hours housecleaning, it included scrubbing, so I will count it as 2 miles. Not sure of the dates but that week.

The last few days have been in the 20's again, so I stayed inside since I just went through measles a few weeks back and figure I might catch something again from folks out and about town.

  10. Bought another cheapy emergency poncho for the day pack since I usually have it with me when I leave my home. I do have the more solid poncho hanging in a closet but need to move it from that one to a handier spot where I will likely also notice it! It does rain a lot these next few seasons around here, often intermittently but umbrellas are awkward unless its just going from buildings to car and back to a building because of the wind patterns here, they can ruin an inexpensive umbrella in a few heartbeats so I find the poncho is a better idea for me, or if its just sprinkling my new windbreaker ( water resistant and my cabela's ball cap to shield my glasses works just fine for a quick walk someplace) . But the poncho helps when its a steadier rain for sure. I was letting the heavier rain days keep me feeling stuck and I don't want to feel stuck anymore, so the solid, better quality colored ponchos work and eventually I will get a motorcycle type rain suit set too.

  11. All the 4 inches of wet snow that fell yesterday is gone except for tiny sheltered spots or its all gone by now as it is noon. It is warmer today, still in the 30s, but it gradually warms up ( mostly and nothing dips down to the 20's again so that is helpful. I am watching night time temps forecasted for when it might be wise to actually direct seed some stuff, some place, outside. About the time it will feel pleasant enough to cruise on my scooter is about when it will be warm enough for certain to do that, a couple to three weeks just to be safe. I saw buds on the trees last week so they should be blooming soon too. There are no flowers anywhere in folks yards, like bulbs , that I have seen. ( I have never been in such boring-ly landscaped community before other than desert towns and desert folks still do better! ) I love watching daffodils come up but alas... none to be seen.

It is nice to hear the birds settling with their dusk time chirps outside.

I take joy in these little signs.

I have a set of sprouts, some will go in bread dough to bake, and some are good for salad or sandwiches and wraps.

About ready to go make some yogurt. :)

  12. Device-allergic, ( I like that phrase~ )

I see far too many hackings going on with electronics and data on computers. I also can forget I signed up for stuff or the website itself skewed things and just had a very harsh lesson in that , or not go back in a timely manner to make sure a paymt was made, so it can 'add' up . , so while I don't mind shopping amazon, it is very helpful, I only get stuff sent to my po box in town now due to sticky fingered neighbors in this building, or Lousy delivery .....and won't be ordering cases of food til I can get to NE, due to that. You still have to check for better local deals and if you can get them , get them !

I know I will have a separate home to live in and at least one good neighbor next door, nice wounded warrior lady in fact. M told me what happened to her, but it's something that will remain private as it was a very personal thing. Not the usual methods, let's just say, but M says we ought to be good neighbors and can do stuff with each other. I would certainly be glad to help her out anytime she might need a hand at something. I am sure we can agree to be on the look out for deliveries and such on the door step for each other , in time.

Plus with the move, I don't want to add to it , what I do have already. If I don't have to. I just plan on setting ,money aside each month, and it is prioritized for transportation and getting settled in NE once I arrive. Also if Plan B was needed before that I can hit the dollar store for canned goods, lol, if need be. ETC.

  13. I read about this on amazon and to tell the truth, for me it costs more to do it this way , being a singular adult household primarily. If I had a larger family and was using more of these products than I do now, other than laundry soap, I would consider it but I would rather not be obligated, and it's another system.

I would rather just set up monthly orders if I could guarantee delivery safety for prime products, on the website itself. I worry that these things could be hacked remotely and your bank account could be wiped out before you know it and you might have 50 items delivered all at once of the same thing before you realized what has happened too.

As you can tell , I am very leery of automated systems involving my bank account information.
