  1. Becca Anne, I am so sorry to hear about your chickens. But maybe next spring you can figure out what is getting to them and get it fixed once and for all. I really hope you find the problem.  And praying you and family all get well fast.

Jeepers, what I bought must still have what works in it on the Dayquil. Will find out next time I need it. I to want to get more into the herbal things for coughs and such. Looking for a good book on how to tell what is what . If I can find a class on it, I would love to take one. I know my GD in Washington state is taking classes there. But I have not found anything like that around here yet.

GD that lives here, just texted me a few minutes ago. She wants GS and I to come to her house tomorrow for dinner. Guess who will be there? Yep, my DD and SIL whom said it cost them over $100 in gas to come here to help GS move out of his apartment. And nope they are only coming to spend weekend with GD. They will not help me with anything nor help GS. I think DD is mad at me for helping GS get on his feet. I don't care if she is, as He is doing better, but still has a lot to learn. He is trying even though I would like to ram a foot up his butt when he gets out of line. He is on way here now as he just left the recruiting office. Hope it will be good news that he can get in right away.

I am changing my diet a lot and doing much more walking as well. I just wish the weather would hold up so I can work in yard more. Been cloudy for days and sprinkling on and off making it to wet to get in flower beds. We had a good rain last night and still cloudy now.

Will head down to pick up RX after GS gets here and buy some eggs as well. I was going to get them at Harris Teeter since I was there, but they were double the price over what Food Lion sells them for.

Yes now I can hit save. That is getting old doing that.

  2. I remember about the Sudafed. I would sign for it and show ID. Now you can't get that one as they changed the formula and it's not as good as it used to be. I read not too long ago that they are going to cut back on all the flu and cold medicine making it harder to buy. Why they are doing this, I really don't remember. But it is not looking good. Went to the drug store (Walgreens) and the shelves were fairly well stocked. So maybe that article I read was not true. But I think something is in the wind. So best to be prepared than to need it and can't get it. Didn't get as much done in living and dining rooms as I hoped but then tomorrow is another day. When I got home from store, I pulled the RX's out of bag and my Synthroid wasn't there. So called the drug store and it was not called in. So called the doctor's office and they called it in. So now have to go back tomorrow to pick that up. I hate making two trips for an RX but at least it is only 5 minutes away.

  3. Went to drug store to pick up RX's.  I did a bit of stocking on the buy one get one free items. I had used up the cough syrup when I had the bad cough for 4 months. I bought Dayquil severe cold and flu cough syrup. When I went to check out, I had to show ID for the Dayquil. Never had to do that before. It's not a narcotic that I am aware of, and it was on shelf with the other cough syrups. I can't find anything in the ingredients that would cause me to have to show ID. But I bought it anyway. Might buy another bottle in another store to see if I have to show ID or not. I think now I have almost all of my low areas restocked.

  4. I have seen that video. There were a lot of pros and cons to it though. But I am working on getting my A1C down to at least 4.8 and hopefully get it stabilized to that point. Not sure though how low a normal A1C can be. If I can go lower, I will. I have already tried the fasting for 5 days drinking mostly water and it did not change things a lot. I would eat just a bit of protein for breakfast and then nothing the rest of day. No change. Diabetes runs in my family. They say sugar and carbs are not the culprit but something sure is. So, it's hard to say unless I do some serious research on it. Just don't have the time right now. The Endo doctor said bacon and eggs every morning but that also on a daily basis can raise the bad cholesterol. So, it is a catch 22.

Getting ready to clean the floors in dining room and living room then going to move a couple pieces of furniture in there. GS showed up this morning unannounced. So now I am going to put his butt to work. If he wants to come here during the day and then go home at night, he will be working around here. I am over this.

  5. Midnightmom, the hot water tank I am putting in is a replacement from 2016. The one that was put in in 2011 we thought had gone bad but turned out it had a lot of sediment in it from one before that one that was a recall. We drained the tank and flushed it, and it has worked ever since. The warranty was for 6 years which ran out in 2017. We had an extended warranty that ran out in 2022 to it is past its prime. The tank is still working but bottom has rusted out and is leaking. So, the new one has been in my shed since 2014. So, I am using that one till it needs replacing. Then I will be thinking of a tankless natural gas hot water tank. But since I already had a new one in shed for so long, I would rather just use what I already have and save money for now.

  6. Jeepers, it sounds like the house is coming along nicely. Once the kitchen cabinets come in and the bathrooms are put back together, they will be very close to being done. Hopefully that will happen soon.

GS went home around 8pm tonight so now I am free until about noon tomorrow.

All my new prescriptions are now ready so need to pick them up tomorrow. This doctor has totally changed everything from what the family doctor had me on. hoping this helps me a lot. The Endocrinologist seems to know his stuff. So, here's hoping for some big changes in my health. I see the heart doctor near the end of next month. And will be making appointment with new family doctor soon. Just don't want all the doctor's appointments bunched up together.

  7. Checked on that check I thought was lost in mail. I called the person it was going to, and she has it but has never cashed it as they were out of town. So, she is putting it in bank tomorrow. So now my check book is straight, and all bills are paid. At least till next month.

GS is still here. He goes home at night and comes back around noon. Can't get him in the military fast enough. But at least he has that appointment with the recruiter on Friday. Hoping things move along fast after that. That boy needs a life and to grow up.

So, bills are paid, been to bank to get out cash for lawn guy, and hot water tank is in garage and ready for the plumber. And yes, I lit the furnace myself. I remembered I had been the one lighting the old one several years ago. And this one isn't that much different. So turned on the gas and struck a match to the burner. So now that is ready to go when needed. Just flip the emergency switch and it will come on. No issues there.

  8. I agree with you on the hot water blanket. I have always heard they help by way of not taking as long to heat the water. Water will stay hotter in tank making it quicker to get hot water to the bathroom on other side of house. I agree your house your rules. Plumber is coming on Monday to replace the hot water tank. So, I just might ask him about the blanket. He should know, I hope. I was thinking about building a garage on property. I have room to do it and then tear down the old garden shed. But I am still thinking about selling out and moving but right now the interest rates are at 10% I think now. So not moving now. Just waiting to see how things go after this administration is hopefully out of office. I think you made your decision before interest rates went up so high. Smart move.

  9. Called the plumbers. They will be here on Monday to replace hot water tank. Got the new hot water tank out of the shed and moved to garage. Went to bank to draw out money for lawn guy. He really does not want to get paid by check. He caught me off guard Monday. As I was at doctor, and he had been here to cut grass and was gone. So will pay him next time. Speaking of bills, I have some to put in mailbox tomorrow and I think one is lost in mail. Need to check on that as it has not gone through the bank yet.

Miki, hope you get your mailbox fixed and it doesn't get hit again. I have been down that road before and now issues with neighbor beating it down with her lawnmower and it is very wobbly now. She doesn't want it near her yard. Well, that mailbox was there before her house was even built and is next to a light pole. It is across the street and unless the postal service says I can move it there is nothing I can do to move it. But I can fix it so she can't keep hitting it. I think she broke the pole inside the plastic cover that goes over the post.

  10. Those generators are a life saver for sure. They say running water does not freeze but at -30* I to would question that. But when it does get below freezing here, I will drip the cold water and open any cabinets that is on an outside wall that has a sink. I have an unvented natural gas heater on wall in garage. It only needs electric to run the fan. But without the fan it will take the chill off of the garage. So, something to think about there as well.  I want to get one of those blankets for the hot water tank this winter. They say it will help on keeping the water in tank hot and it not run as much. My hot water for master bath has to run a bit before it starts getting warm. So, a blanket might help. Water has to run from garage to other end of house for that bathroom to have hot water.

  11. Got the living room and dining room almost emptied now. Need to clean the floors and then I have some furniture I need to move around from another room to put in there.  We had rain again today so haven't been able to get back into garage yet. I need to pull a lot of stuff out onto the driveway in order to move a shelving unit to other side of garage. Then move the freezer after I get it emptied and defrosted again. Plus, I will need to move the toolbox. Then I can get things set up on shelving unit like I want and have everything better organized and easy to get to. Going to go ahead and replace the hot water tank as well. So, will be getting the new one out of shed and moving it to garage to have it installed. Will have him check pilot light on the furnace as well. I want to watch what he does when lighting the furnace as if I learn then I can do it myself next time. Bought new fire alarms and Carbon monoxide detectors also to put up. One in garage and one in den as well. My old ones have quit on me. They last about 10 years, and it is past that time.

  12. Agreed. They need to catch the person that is doing that.  Miki, I think I would build a brick wall type fixture around the new mailbox. That should do some damage to whoever is hitting it and make them slow down. I have seen where they build a square brick box like fixture with the mailbox fixed into the brick. Might be something to think about. You might could google mailboxes on internet to see what they have.

  13. I will be checking out a lot of my supplies once I finish up on getting house together. I think I had packed washcloths into a 5 gal. bucket with a toilet seat on it for emergencies. But need to get into attic and pull everything down from there. Making plans now for redoing the garage setup so it better works for me. It was set up for DH and all his tools and things, but now I really think I need to make it work for my needs now.

  14. Now that I can get to my sewing machine and things are starting to shape up in the house some. I want to sit down and get some things made. I to have the flannel for TP.  I have the very light colors so they can be bleached easy. I have a diaper pail as well so I can just drop them in that with bleach water and borax, till I have a load to wash. I think they will dry fast in summertime but in winter not as fast if they are hung outside. I have 3 of the indoor lines where you pull the line out and across the room to hang clothes. Then just unhook the line to roll into the I can't think of what you call it but the line rolls into it till next time. I plan to hook up all 3 of them after I get the garage set like I want it. I do have one up already.

  15. Mt. Rider, I think fall has hit here as well. I am enjoying the cooler weather also. Just don't want to see old man winter come in with a harsh freezing cold and snow. We don't get snow here like some of you do but when we do get a few inches it stops everything. People here don't know how to drive in it either.

  16. Jeepers, I really do hope you and I both have a mild winter. Though your winters are much worse where you are. Hopefully it won't be too bad. I forgot to add I have a heater in my garage as I wash clothes in there also. You can also buy a small heater to keep the temps above freezing. If you get one, make sure it is a ceramic heater. Those are the best ones for a garage.

  17. Jeepers, I was going through things I haven't read or missed, and I missed this. My garage does not have a drain either. I have an old cheap rug that I put down in middle of the garage floor and pull my car in on that. The rug catches all the water and snow that runs off of the car. You might could consider doing that. It has worked well for me.

  18. Mt. Rider, glad to see you are doing ok.  Praying for Mr. Mt. Rider's back to heal and for your cough to get better and just go away. I know how the cough can be. Had one for 4 months.

Went to endocrinologist this morning. All went well. when I told him about the Trulicity and how it affected me he said with both hypothyroidism, pituitary tumor, and autoimmune disease I should not have been on any of that type of medication. He put me on older drugs for the diabetes. Told him that family doctor would not take me off of it when I told him how it affected me and that I just stopped taking it about 3 months ago, He did an A1C, and it had dropped from 7.2 to 6.7. Made me happy to know my diet was on the right track. He took 6 vials of blood today also. So will find out about that in a couple of weeks. I think I will be sticking with this doctor as he seems to know what he is talking about and knows the side effects of the meds.

  19. I have been noticing Mt. Rider has not been on here for a while. Hope all is well with her, and she is just busy.

Spend the afternoon going though clothes. Checking my winter clothes to see if I need to buy anything for cold weather. I think I am ok though. Not as many winter clothes as I have in summer clothes.

Grandson see's the doctor in the morning early and then to work in the afternoon. He best go home after work tomorrow. He has spent his last few days here and I am getting tired of it now. Told him not to come back tonight that he's starting to spend more time here than at home. Can't wait for him to get into coast guard. I hate to say it, but I really hope they move him to another state, and he can live on base. I think living on base would be a better option for him. Hopefully he will learn something about growing up and taken responsibility for himself.

Weather is getting cooler here now. I have a doctor's appointment with the Endocrinologist in the morning. Hope all will go well. Hoping with whatever he does about my thyroid and diabetes, that it will give me more energy. Just need to get myself back on track.

Maybe when I come home, I can work in the yard. There are some changes I want to make in the garden area. And I need to reinforce the raised bed boxes.

  20. Midnightmom, we must have been typing at the same time. Glad you found out what really happened with that floor. She should have hired a professional to do that job. And checked the plumbing as well. But glad you found out the real cause of the tiles breaking like that.

  21. Did a lot of work on getting things put away where I wanted this morning. The storm is over. No flooding in my area but in GS's area it was bad. He couldn't get home through all the mess over there in Norfolk so turned around and came here. He has a very early doctor's appointment on Monday, and he is going to church with me in the morning. Then we will have lunch and he will be heading back home. Hoping he will continue to go to church with me. He needs that. Seems he is calming down again now. Don't know why he acts like he does and then later acts like nothing happened. But he has found out GM is not putting up with it and he best behave.

Got floors mopped in kitchen and den and went through what material I was able to get out of shed. Not sure if anymore is in there or not. But I do have some for Euphasyne. Will PM her in a bit.
