    stocking up

((((((Mare)))))) Thanks for the reminder, to see beyond the surface of people who live alone and are lonely. We have to envision walking in the others shoes and then reach out the way we would want others to reach out to us. I know many like this...what they don't say in audible words, you can see in their eyes. They need someone who cares. Thanks Motherearth, for sharing what things we need to stock up on. And to remember others as well
  2. Is it pretty, Mare? As much as I like to forego winter in general, there is nothing more beautiful than a pure white dazzling snow covering. I do enjoy the variety the 4 seasons brings us! Yes, lets hope the cool wet front finds its way to the California fires. God bless them.
  3. I got one and half wrong. It appears I need to know who wrote a famous song? You can bet I won't get that one wrong again!!
  4. Way to go, Lynne!! Wishing them wedded bliss! Thanks for sharing, Cat!!
  5. The Girl I Used To Be She came tonight as I sat alone The girl I used to be. And she gazed at me with her earnest eye And questioned reproachfully: Have you forgotten the many plans and hopes I had for you? The great career, the splendid fame, All the wonderful things to do? Where is the mansion of stately height? With all its gardens rare? The silken robes that I dreamed for you And the jewels in your hair? And as she spoke, I was very sad, For I wanted her pleased with me, This slender girl from the shadowy past, The girl that I used to be. So gently rising, I took her hand And guided her up the stairs Where peacefully sleeping, my babies lay, Innocent, sweet and fair. And I told her that these are my only gems, And precious they are to me; That silken robes is my motherhood Of costly simplicity. And my mansion of stately height is love, And the only career I know Is serving each day in these sheltered walls. For my dear ones who come and go. And as I spoke to my shadowy guest, She smiled through her tears at me And I saw the woman that I am now Pleased....the girl I used to be. Author Unknown
  6. Thanks, Mare, I will be sure to watch it!
  7. Okay, poll time. How many of us after veiwing Kelly's post had corned beef last week?? I know I sure have appreciated the variety of ways to make corned beef. Last week made corned beef hash for dinner.
  8. Nice to have you back, Danny Lou!! Come again often! Our Autumn is well under way here in Michigan, the trees are losing leaves rapidly and will soon be bare. I just know snow is around the corner. We've had a lovely Indian Summer last week with 70' sunny days.
  9. Thank God! Terri's voice has been heard in Florida, as well as all mentally and physically challenged persons who do not live a "normal" life. Quality of life cannot be measured and judged. I am excited for the miracle that has taken place in Tallahassee Florida.
  10. ((((((SnapshotMiki))))))) Its always so nice to follow you on your travels around the country!! Thank you always for checking in when you are able. You are missed! Blessings,

  12. Awwwwww, how precious to have 2 adorable babes at once,....Better put me in the coop with the other broodies! Thanks Lois for sharing these gems with us!
  13. I like the idea of having main dish and dessert all in one Thanks for sharing, Lowie.
  14. I have always loved those stable doors...thats what I call them, too! Lately it has been rave to get them as nursery doors so that you could corral the little ones in without completely feeling as if they are behind closed doors. Some moms are more at peace when they have installed these doors. Sounds like you and yours are off to an adventurous day, Lowie! Hope all goes well with the door installation. Today, I am off to deliver pasties to my inlaws. The time and preparation it takes to make these, you have to make loads and give them away. It will be a nice morning visit. Then this afternoon I have to build a film. This weeks new release is "Under The Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane. It takes about an hour to get all the reels on and then I get to watch the movie to make sure all is well before we sell tickets to the general public. Besides that, today is my errand day of grocery shopping so it will be full day. This week flew by, I can scarcely believe it is Friday already. Tomorrow is Saturday and I get to sleep in past 5:30 am. I'm gonna enjoy that!
  15. I am making Pasties today. There's nothing like a wholesome hot pastie to eat on a crisp Autumn day They are a favorite here in Michigan, especially in the UP where they have pastie stands. They are a family favorite as well. Pastie Crust 4 cups of flour 2 Tsp. salt 2 sticks of margerine 1 egg Cold water Pastie filling 1# hamburger 1/2# of pork sausage 4 potatoes peeled 1 small rutabaga, peeled 1 large onion, diced small salt pepper parsley flakes 8 pads of margerine In mixing bowl, add flour and salt. Fork in 2 sticks of margerine. Crack egg in cup of cold water to equal 1 cup. Mix wet mixture into dry until mixture is soft and pliable, cut into 8 equal parts. Cube vegetables. Add raw meat to vegetables. Roll out one crust at a time on a lightly floured surface making the shape oblong. Using equal parts of filling mixture in each crust. Salt, pepper, parsley flakes to taste, adding one pad of margerine in each pastie, fold over crust and press with fingers to fasten. Poke the crust 4x or so and put on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes at 450', then reduce heat to 350' and bake for 40 minutes. Cool for at least 15 minutes on the sheet before eating. Serve with ketchup, or make a gravy to top. Serves 8 and we won't even talk about calories, carbs and fat grams... Enjoy!
  16. Hillbillie, Does this mean you'd rather see this woman die instantly rather than slowly? I do not believe in euthanesia (sp?) for the human race. Farmers and pet owners may end the lives of their animals in this fashion but I will never consent to ending the life of a a person I love. I believe every person has an appointed day to die and when we step in and take thier God-given lives in our hands, we go where we have no moral right to do so. Just my opinion. My dearly beloved Grandmother had to be taken off life support to die...its was not an easy decision but neither was the machines keeping her alive un-naturally. I guess, from all I've read of the Terri Schindler case is that the feeding tube was keeping her alive. I read somewhere on her parents website that they wanted her to recieve therapy to learn to spoon feed but it didn't happen. There were monies given to enhance the quality of life for Terri but instead she was put in a nursing home. I know the husband has his own reasons for doing this, I just wish his voice was as loud as Terri's parents in this matter of life and death. Joan, thank you for sharing more about your friend whose loved one died in this manner. I'm not disputing the facts you've given but I can't help but think that by looking at the pictures of starving children in Africa made me believe that they were in pain.
  17. Joan, I do hope you help me understand the true motives behind this case. I truly want to know more than I am reading and watching on the news. Joni Eareckson-Tada (whom I highly respect and admire for her voice to the disabled) is holding vigil with many in Florida for the life of this woman who is being denied feeding today. If Terri Schindler is allowed to die by court order, what is to become of our elderly, disabled and critically ill citizens?
  18. Oh my! So sorry. I was sucked in yet again.
  19. Subject: Hidden poison - True Information! In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick, she had stomach spasms, she was having a hard time getting around, to walk was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed, she was in so much pain. By March 2002, she had undergone biopsies, and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick, she knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc.., in her oldest daughters name, and made sure her younger children were to be with her oldest daughter. She wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd.. On March 19th I called her to ask her how one of her tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I thought, oh, my....then I recalled an article a friend of mine emailed to me...and I asked her....Do you drink Diet pop? She told me yes, as a matter of fact she was getting ready to crack one open that moment, I told her not to open it, and stop drinking the diet pop....and I emailed her the following article. She called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she stopped drinking the diet pop, and she can walk...she went up the stairs, and the muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctors with this article and would call me back when she got home. She called me, and her doctor was amazed, he is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweetener. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the aspartame in the diet soda, dying a slow death. When she got to FL March 22nd, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for poisoning....she is well on her way to recovery......and she is walking!!!!! No wheelchair!!!! This article saved her life!!!! The life saving article: If it says "SUGAR FREE," on the label, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME" marketed as 'NutraSweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.' In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, that it was hard to understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to Eformaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.) The methanol toxicity mimics among other conditions multiple sclerosis. People were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use, irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become life-threatening. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptomatic once taken off diet sodas. In the case of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision returned and hearing improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus. During a lecture I said "If you are using ASPARTAME NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss-you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE!" People were jumping up during the lecture saying, I've got some of these symptoms: Is it reversible?" Yes, Not drinking diet sodas and keeping an eye out for aspartame on food labels, yes! We have a very serious problem. A stranger came up to Dr. Espisto (one of my speakers) and me and said: "Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS?" During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence! Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi etc. IS NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional Record states that it makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Once off these products with no significant increase in exercise, etc., Dr. Roberts in his lecture stated that he had patient who lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that physicians would believe that they have a patient with retinopathy, when in fact the symptoms are caused by aspartame. The aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are >> >neurotoxic without the other amino acids found in >> >protein. >> >Thus it passes the blood brain barrier and >> >deteriorates the neurons of the brain, causing in >> >diabetics (as well as in patients not suffering from >> >diabetes)various kinds of brain damage, seizures, >> >depression, manic depression, panic attacks, rage, >> >violence. 20. I make hash with corned beef. Dice up potatoes and fry them, add the corned beef at the very end and mix till cooked. This is a family favorite. Also, with cabbage, potatoes, carrots, onions and corned beef in a crock pot makes a great boiled dinner.

    Psssst.........

Happy Happy Birthday, Mare!! Hope you have a wonderful Birthday week and Cavey spoils you rotten , you deserve it!!
  22. Good point, Joan and Caveman, I do agree that media plays with games with our heartstrings and emotions. But media is not where I learned of this situation. The place where I got my information on Terri Schindler is from her families website set up on her behalf. You can check it out here: http://www.terrisfight.org/
  23. I have been following this story with great interest. From all I have read on Terri S. tells me that she is not in a veg. state but she does in fact respond and interact with loved ones. I do hope her family wins in court to intercept this act. I think this is sad that Terri's husband wishes to end her life in this matter by removing her feeding tube and letting her starve to death. Makes you wonder what kind of marriage they had before the accident. When my DH and I shared vows at our wedding, We truly meant it when we said "in sickness and health", with no intentions of rushing the "death do us part", portion of the vows. 20 years of marriage has only increased those vows and devotion to one another.
  24. May our Canadian friends have an abundance of good food, blessings and great memories with loved ones on this Thanksgiving Day! WE are very THANKFUL for the joy they bring to us each day here at Mrs. Survival!!
