Apparently it is here!

It is an N7 3 supposedly not contagious to humans. The farm is quarantined for a 3 km area. 50,00 chickens are being destroyed and then the buildings disinfected and sanitized. I think there will be a 21 day follow up to that to ensure that the virus is gone.

Yes, there have been numerous "lesser type" Bird Flu viruses around, some for years, some newer strains.

The scary one is the one that will affect *us*, or transfer to pigs and *then* us. frown

Which actually could be one of these lessor strains, Cat. The speaker at the meeting we went to a year ago last April on the bird flu told us that they are worried that one of those strains will jump animal species and mutate. They destroy the infected animals and those within so many miles to try to keep it contained.

I believe there has been several of thes strains found in wild birds in our area last fall and one bird actually had enough strains for it to have become the H5N1 strain but nothing was said afterwards about it. They've had the lessor strains in Pennsylvania at farmers markets where they cloesd the place down and fumigated and sanitized the whole are too but, again, nothing was said about it afterwards, presumably it was safe to do it that way.

I'm sure the Powers That Be are keeping an eye on it but I'm not sure WE will know about it until they are ready to tell us. frown

Maybe you could keep us informed of what they say about it, Lovinit? H5N1 or not, it's still a bit scary to have them kill off 50,000 chickens.

Stay miles ahead of the media with these sites:

http://www.flutrackers.com

http://www.newfluwiki2.com

http://www.curevents.com (a general purpose board, but they have a very good Flu Forum and excellent prep rooms...see their archives)

There are other reputable and professional flu forums, but don't have their addy handy.

Some flu forums are rumor mills bordering on the hysterical, but the ones listed here are responsible and are respected in many professional communities.

I'll post later with a few other good ones...
