Horace Lee Jones born, 25 Dec 1808, in Louisville (Jefferson Co.) Kentucky. Married Elizabeth Sidwell, born, 1819 in KY. They had: Emma Frances Jones Anna Jones b. 1835 in Ohio Catherine Jones b, 1837 in Ohio Thomas Benton Jones b. 1839 in IN d. 02 May 1902 in Lincoln, Nebraska This is my great-grandpa. m. Sara(h) Ann Scott b. 14 Jun 1845 in (Decatur Co.) Indiana d. 30 Mar 1880 in Maple Township (Monona Co.) Iowa John W. Jones b. 1841 in IN James Jones b. 1844 in IN. William Edward Jones b. 1846 in IN Eliza Eleanor Jones b. 1848 in IN Mariah (Jennie) Jane Jones b. 01 Mar 1852 Remember, that Horace had 3 brothers who along with him swam the Ohio River and one didn't make it. We have no idea what has happened to the other brothers. Again, he, Horace and brothers were raised or were living with an uncle who had slaves and he was very mean to them. The MacKinnon Posted December 18, 2008 Share Posted December 18, 2008 I've got two sets of Jones' ancestors! ** Snowmom, you may have already thought of this, but Horace Jone's middle name, LEE, may provide a clue - often kids carried their mother's maiden name as a middle or even first name, so perhaps his father was married to a LEE - or his mother could have been a LEE. I've found that to be a help sometimes. I've got both sets back to 1810 Sumner County TN: Wiley Jones (born about 1810, TN, probably Sumner County) Allen Jones (born about same time, also in Sumner County) Wiley married Mary E. Neal in Sumner County. I find them on census records and have a marriage record for them. Allen married Mary Jane Love, also of Sumner County. They moved on to Butler Co, KY by 1860. One of their children, daughter Margaret, married one of Wiley's and Mary's sons, Isaac A Jones. Both Wiley and Allen indicate their fathers were born in NC - but prior to 1796, TN was a part of NC. I have pictures of Isaac and wife Margaret when they were much older. Photos circa early 1920s and not really sharp. I think Mary E. Neal's parents were Britton Jones Neal (eek! another Jones?) and Elizabeth McNeeley, and Mary Jane Love's father's name was William. Mother may have been Polly/Margaret. I haven't found anything further on them. Link to comment

They were in Freemont, IA (Rome Township)They moved around a lot but I found them there in the 1860 census Link to comment
