Scriptures regarding waste?

Hi Everyone, Nothing makes me angrier than all the waste I see from alot of people. I stopped going to buffets about a year ago (gastric bypass) and was shocked that parents would let their children pile their plates only to abandon them to get something else. I direct a food pantry at our church and would like to offer a class about food preservation most people have no idea how to preserve their leftovers by freezing, dehydrating or canning ( I dont can either) I just see food being thrown out. I was the Queen of waste so I know all about that. Now I know the Lord wont bless our food supply if we continue to waste what he gives us. I have learned to save everything from sctraps for making broth to chicken bones I even use coffee grounds and egg shells. Anyway I have some scriptures but was wondering if anyone had something I may have missed. Any help would r great.

I am glad to see what you have learned. I think there is no need for hunger in our country. There is so much waste. I see so many fruit trees now with all the fruit just rotting away.

May you be blessed by helping others.

If you want my help with anything, please send me a message.

I am trained in all areas of food preservation.

I can't really think of verses right now other than about consider the ants, you sluggards !

That, and I also see that if we follow God's plan, it says he will bless our bread and our water and remove sickness from our midst.

Thank you Violet! I have to bite my tongue when I am at someones house and I see so much waste, This is something that many people would say I should mind my own business because it is not costing me, but maybe if I can speak to someone in a,loving way and show them what is right by being armed with scripture, maybe they can see things differently, Our children see what we do and thusly do the same.

It seems that every year I see more and more of how I, myself, am wasteful...and ways to correct that. Seems like I'll be learning this one till I die. Every year, there is something else.

Probably not what you are looking for, but when I read your post, the scripture where Jesus accused the Pharisees of taking in a camel and squeezing out a gnat came to mind. That's really not being wasteful, so it doesn't work. Being greedy...that's not being wasteful, is it?

Perhaps the scriptures dealing with the way God provided the manna for the Hebrews and how He told them to use it up because what they didn't use would rot and be filled with worms.

No. That one won't really work either, because it was about just using what you have for today and not setting anything aside for tomorrow, except for the Sabbath day.

The scripture about not worrying about tomorrow, and that He feeds the birds of the fields and clothes the flowers...that doesn't help.

Hmmm. Actually, I think the scriptures that would address this particular issue would be based on things such as being grateful for the Lord's provision and not taking it lightly. Scriptures based on gluttony and how ugly that is to the Lord. The children filling up their plates and not eating it is gluttonous...they fill their tummies with the "pretties" and want a full plate just to feel...rich? wealthy? entitled?

You know what? I don't know what to think about this. Thank you for posting it. I have some reading and researching to do. Starting in Proverbs 31, of course, and then moving on. Hmmm. Interesting.

What are the scriptures you already have?

I just know that we are taught that if we are faithful with little, He will make us rulers over much.

To me that speaks of material wealth, as well as other areas of our lives. If we waste all of our money then we have nothing to give to others. We are supposed to give. Give and it shall be given unto you... if we are broke due to being wasteful, we have nothing to give.

I know that God wants us to prosper and be in good health. If we are wasting what God has blessed us with, then how do we expect to prosper ?

Also, I know if we are in debt, we are called slaves to the lender in Proverbs 22:7

I am trying dilegently to get out of debt. Owe no man anything except a bond of love.

Makes me think....

All I know is I want out of debt !!!

Just a few thoughts of mine I wanted to share.

I think people forgot that we eat to survive... we don't survive to eat.

buying smaller plates helps eat less. try it! get smaller paper plates for home... remember this is an exercise in survival when we need to eat less to extend out supplies.. right?

sit at the dinner table, turn off the TV! no radio on.. sit around the table for a family meal and talk! this slows down how fast food is shoved in our faces which gives time for the brain to let the tummy know it has had enough. this will take time since we need to retrain out families!

Put less out on the table, serve plates from the kitchen and bring it out. Let the salad be all they can eat along with the vegetables. Add sliced fruit, oranges, apples or watermelon! a nice bowl of grapes that you have cut the stems so when they pick one out it isn't the entire bunch.

Put the milk on the table or a pitcher of water or ice tea. Make hot coffee or tea for after dinner and offer a salad plate size of cookies.. perhaps 1 or 2 per person.

This will limit not only the amount they eat but now they are eating healthy. the left overs! imagine having leftovers! can be used for another meal!

If you hear 'I am still hungry' remind them that times are hard and we have to cut back, or we aren't supposed to eat to feel full, or that you are sorry that they have got half of your genes and are concerned that they will need the same surgery that you had some day! find some statement that you can use so the kids won't have a come back!

p.s. remember we are downsizing! everything! junk in the house, amount of food we are eating, the junk foods we eat, in order to survive the next 50 years of soon to be socialism, we will have no choice.. might as well get started early and stock away the extra cash!.... in a coffee can!
