mama in the woods
I have used herbs occasionaly for medicinal purposes here, but don't have any stored at this time. I have been looking at buying some bulk herbs and would love to know what you ladies consider essential to have on hand. I don't want to overwhelm myself, but make sure I have whatever the "basics" might be. Thanks! Link to comment
GirlNextDoor
This might sound kooky, but at the moment I have essential oils stored as I can afford them. They lasy forever and are a great bang for your buck. Use 1% essential oil as opposed to real herb. I don't use them because they are my emergency supply, JIC. Link to comment

Mother
Here's a few back posts that might give you and idea. Lots more here too. Do a search for herb lists maybe. http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry137421 http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry191205 http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry150626 http://mrssurvival.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;hl=Herb+lists Besides having a general herbal medicine kit, I like to suggest that people take a few moments to assess what their needs might be before they stock up on herbs. If your family or a member tends towards stomach problems then do some research and stock what is needed for that. If there is heart problems then look at Hawthorn and etc. If there is a tendency towards arthritis or pain then perhaps white willow.. There is a lot of info on herbs in the to sub forums above. You have to remember that herbs lose their potency after a while so you will want to store what you might use. Essential oils do store longer but they aren't usable for everything. Most of them have to be diluted to use and some should not be consumed. There are different strengths and different grades, some a lot better than others. Medicinal grades are probably the best to store but are also the costliest. The one essential oil I wouldn't be without is Tea Tree Oil. We won't be able to get it in a SHTF situation easily and I always have plenty on hand. Link to comment
mama in the woods
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of getting some glycerin and trying my hand at making some tinctures. There is so much out there to consider when it comes to looking into medicinal herbs, it can be overwhelming to me. I will check out the links and try to pick a few that would work well for my family. I am also thinking colloidal silver and oregano oil would be an essential, as well as tea tree oil. Oregano oil is amazing when you start to feel a sniffle coming on. Link to comment
