Percysgirl
For those of you who have tried both, does your family have a preference of hot pack or raw pack? I'm trying both now. I figured that about 1-1/3 pounds raw chicken will fit into a quart jar, and we normally use about 1 pound for a dinner with no or little leftovers, so one quart jar of raw packed should be enough to cover a dinner and a lunch the following day, which is perfect for us. Virginia
We cannot tell any difference. However, I have decided to always hot pack my chicken. You know the stuff that cooks out of the meat? If you pre-cook you can wipe that stuff off. If you raw pack, that stuff oozes (sp) out and does not look as appetizing, to me. Link to comment
RNMOM
I did boneless skinless chicken breasts this Spring when they were on sale. I think I did about 60 pounds. I did both raw and hot pack. The raw pack was definitely easier and I can't tell the difference now that it is canned. It's sure great to see those jars on the shelves. Link to comment
Violet
I prefer raw pack chicken. Beef, I do a hot pack, though. Link to comment
Darlene
I raw pack as much as possible...lol Link to comment
Percysgirl
I did a hot pack today. So I figure that within the next couple of weeks I'll try a jar of each and see how it goes. I definitely prefer the raw pack time and energy-wise. LOL Link to comment
