  5. You might wanna think again. Last week, as we were threatened with a hurricane, I drove around checking things out. It felt so good to not need anything because I have already planned well in advance for interruptions such as this. I really didn't have much to do, so I went down to my local grocery store to check out what the last minute shoppers were doing as they tried to prepare for the hurricane... I took some pictures, just to give you an idea. Now bear in mind, this was early into the announced potential emergency, so in reality it is really much worse when that emergency is a real and viable threat. People thought I was nuts taking my camera and shooting pictures and one lady at the grocery store had words with me *rolling eyes* but as they say, a picture says a thousand words. Here is a line of cars backed up about 1/4 of a mile, waiting in line to get gas. 105290-Ernesto8-28-06001.jpg
  6. Yep, very well written westie... Everything she is saying is true because over the months, this is the exact same thing she would teach me over the phone. In turn, I'd do it with the pups and the results are very gratifying. Thanks for taking the time to teach this. ((((westie))))

    dogs

Misty, what I have are 2 Anatolian Shepard dogs. Westie is the one that educated me about them, she has 5. Here's the site she lead me to, to research on my own and come to my own decision: www.lgd.org And this the breeder that I got the female from. She is one of the best breeders in the country and her site is very informative: www.alaturka.org While I have always had dogs and always liked them, I have never been so head over heels with a breed like I am with these. They're not the type of dog for everyone but I thrive and excel with their temperment and personality, so it's working out awesome for me and the children. They are low prey, extremely loyal to their family and their property, superior guardian dogs, and probably the most intelligent breed I've ever seen. Don't get me started or I'll be writing a book on all the things that I love about them. I'm biased, that's why I have 2 and want more. Check it out for yourself, do your research on which ever breed you decide on...it will be a huge part of your family for many years to come. The Anatolians tend to have a 12-15 year life span so it is definitely a commitment.
  8. Declaration of Independence Banned at Calif School http://www.reuters.com/printerFriendlyPopu...storyID=6911883 Wed Nov 24, 2004 04:12 PM ET By Dan Whitcomb LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence. Steven Williams, a fifth-grade teacher at Stevens Creek School in the San Francisco Bay area suburb of Cupertino, sued for discrimination on Monday, claiming he had been singled out for censorship by principal Patricia Vidmar because he is a Christian. "It's a fact of American history that our founders were religious men, and to hide this fact from young fifth-graders in the name of political correctness is outrageous and shameful," said Williams' attorney, Terry Thompson. "Williams wants to teach his students the true history of our country," he said. "There is nothing in the Establishment Clause (of the U.S. Constitution) that prohibits a teacher from showing students the Declaration of Independence." Vidmar could not be reached for comment on the lawsuit, which was filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in San Jose and claims violations of Williams rights to free speech under the First Amendment. Phyllis Vogel, assistant superintendent for Cupertino Unified School District, said the lawsuit had been forwarded to a staff attorney. She declined to comment further. Williams asserts in the lawsuit that since May he has been required to submit all of his lesson plans and supplemental handouts to Vidmar for approval, and that the principal will not permit him to use any that contain references to God or Christianity. Among the materials she has rejected, according to Williams, are excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, George Washington's journal, John Adams' diary, Samuel Adams' "The Rights of the Colonists" and William Penn's "The Frame of Government of Pennsylvania." "He hands out a lot of material and perhaps 5 to 10 percent refers to God and Christianity because that's what the founders wrote," said Thompson, a lawyer for the Alliance Defense Fund, which advocates for religious freedom. "The principal seems to be systematically censoring material that refers to Christianity and it is pure discrimination." In June, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case of a California atheist who wanted the words "under God" struck from the Pledge of Allegiance as recited by school children. The appeals court in California had found that the phrase amounted to a violation of church and state separation.

  12. Reprinted from: the Free Mercola.com Newsletter http://www.mercola.com/2003/jun/7/mosquito_bites.htm (smilies added by moi) ================================================== Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance--their bites can cause serious complications including the transmission of diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, encephalitis, and West Nile virus (WN) to humans and animals. Mosquitoes belong to the Diptera order, otherwise known as the True Flies. There are over 2,500 different species of mosquitoes throughout the world with about 200 species in the United States. There are 77 species in Florida alone, and a new species, Anopheles grabhamii, was reported in the Florida Keys in 2001. While there are many ways to deter mosquitoes from biting you, some are more toxic than others. The following suggestions give you easy ways to repel these pests: When all else fails--get a frog! Dr. Janet Starr Hull's Healthy Newsletter May 2003 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: Many thanks to Dr. Hull for these natural options to deadly insect repellants that contain DEET. I would add one additional suggestion to the above list, which I have effectively used as the primary recommendation to my patients over the past five years. That product is Buzz Away. It has been proven to be more effective than Avon Skin-So-Soft, Bug Guard, Bite Blocker, Natrapel, Jungle Juice, AND it is equally as effective as OFF! Buzz Away is formulated with citronella, cedar wood, eucalyptus, lemon grass, peppermint, and pure and natural plant extracts that repel bugs. For more information you can visit their Web site or call 1-800-448-1448.

  19. Test results: Are you running for president? You clearly know a great deal about United States Culture. You got 11/14 correct. Excuse me while I pat myself on the back! (I have to get my exercise somehow, you know!) While I did well on that test, I didn't do as well on this one. I only got 8/12 correct. State Flags test ------------------ "Sooner or later everyone quotes their mother."
  20. Mooooooooooooooooooooooooove over! It's time to let the cat out of the bag! My furbaby is a choc-lab/pointer mix, and she is beautiful!!! Pasadeena is almost 4 months old now, and due to be spayed pretty soon, but not until she is over this owie. Took her back to the vet today for a bandage change. The wound isn't totally closed yet, and she still has the stitches in, but the doc says it is healing nicely. Her first bandage was bright pink, the new one is lime green. The pink one looked better on her-the green clashes with her 3 shades of brown!!! If my dd ever finds the cord that came with her camera, I might be able to take and upload a pic. ------------------ "Sooner or later everyone quotes their mother."
  21. Thank you everyone, and you're right, my wallet took a big beating (Donations gladly accepted!!! ) $90 emergency visit $45 anastesia -- overnight stay -- Nursing care -- stitches -- bandages -- medicine -- etc $341+ owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
