  5. Rise and shine sleepy heads!! It's finally Saturday.. Today Mike and I are being interviewed on Christian Radio WJLY in Illinois. It's their annual shareathon.. We were asked to come down and talk about why we like the station. In Chicago there's Moody Broadcasting.. We will be interviewd by Mike Kellog and Steve Hillyer.. Anyone heard of them? We have invited another family to come over and go with us. So they didn't have the expense of driving themselves. They are bringing breakfast! Well I am cooking it but they are bringing it! LOL... Anyone having Thanksgiving this weekend? I have a turkey thawing I thought about doing a small one for my family tomorrow after church.. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Love, Dawn
  6. I can't wait to get into this site! I love the civil war era as well as reading on the depression era.. I know people who lived through the depression and man the things they taught me! Like saving every piece of tomoato you can by cutting out only the bad spots. And paring a potato very thinly so you don't lose any of the potato.. Saving everything, newspapers, styrafoam you name it.. Although I don't save styrafoam. But I reuse papers to start the fires and I save all my dryer lint.. Eventually to make home made fire starters! Thanks for this site!!
  7. I am with you Joan, that's what got me hooked on MrsS to begin with!
  8. Al how's the baby doing this week? Have you found something to help calm her?
  9. Awww Cat you are the best in my book girl..
  10. Well had I paid close attention to the whole thing I would have noticed that.. LOL..
  11. I am a little confused is there cornbread in the first recipe also?
  12. My Mom used to make dressing every year for Thanksgiving as does most everyone else. What I remember her putting in it was simply this Dried Bread broken into pieces Eggs, poulty seasoning, celery and onion that had been sauted together and broth to moisten it. I don't remember the amounts. Does anyone else have a recipe like this? Would you mind sharing it with me?
  13. Spider do you have a big DOG??? When you leave your house at 530 is anyone else in the house? I am afraid that that would freak me out a lot!! It's already 55 here.. Kids are up and getting ready for the bus. I don't have to go in until 10:30 today! I went to the market last night and they had miracle whip on sale for 1.29 a jar! I got 6.. It's usually over 3 dollars a jar here. I also bought some of those new pie crust that are rolled from Pillsbury.. They were 1.69.. I was pretty excited about that. Is everyone mentally prepared for Thanksgiving now? How about that mad Christmas dash the day after??
  14. Well leave it to MrsS to slap me into reality.. I have read everyone's posts and here's my take. I am going to enjoy being with people I love this Holiday season and even some strangers and get to know them better. Someday I may be old and alone and think back and tell myself I shouldn't have been such a snot and tried to make the most of it when I could. My life hasn't stopped just because my Mom's has.. Time to live for today and stop living in the past, and praise God for the days I have on this earth to enjoy my kids while their still young and living at home. So later on when I have all my grandbabies in this world Lord willing they will all come over to Grandma and Grandpa's for Thanksgiving and I can make happy memories for them!!!! Thanks for opening my eyes and heart.. Dawn
  15. Thyra my prayers to you and your family...
  16. Absolutely not least Wes... Not to mention yours is the one that's different from everyone else.. Guess I better get that address on there and put it in my mail box as I leave for work! Take care, BC
  17. [quote Why is it that we so long for the *ideal* and always feel like we're "settling" for less??? Somehow, I think many of us never quite get over the longing for what we THINK the holidays should be. There's a child longing for a movie-set-perfect holiday inside of every adult. I know there is in me. And I am always sad because I can't do it for my children, either.
  18. Since Mom died and Dad remarried and moved 12 hours away, even though there are 12 of us kids still living with the yours mine and ours thing going on.. I don't spend Thanksgiving with any of them. With that much family you wouldn't think that a person would be lonely.. But it is indeed. We spend Thanksgiving with my dh's family. And this year we are spending it with Dh's brothers new wife and her parents. Whom I have only met at the wedding.. DREAD isn't the word... I don't know these people.. And rumor has it it's going to be a large get together.. Not something this small town country girl wants to really leave the comforts of her peaceful, cozy home for. But for the sake of my dh and his family I am going to keep my miserable mouth closed and go with the flow. This holiday season Buttercup isn't cooking for Thanksgiving.. I don't know how to do that. My whole married life of 15 years I have fixed most of the meal.. These people are quiche people.. I pray that I will be able to over come my fear of being inferior and just enjoy the day. For Christmas we go to my oldest sisters where 2 or three of my sisters and their kids will be there and we all bring food and watch movies and have a good time together. Then I fix the meal Christmas Day and my inlaws come to our house. We sit around the fire after we eat and open presents and have a nice time. I am sure I am making a mountain out of a molehill on this Thanksgiving and by next year it will just be a memory! I hope you all are blessed this Thanksgiving with your family and friends and memories! Hugs and Prayers, Dawn

    new here

Welcome to MrsS aboutnuts.. Do you raise animals on your farm? Or is it mostly farm ground? Someone will be along in a while with muffins and some raspberry tea. why don't you sit a spell on the porch with us and tell us more?
  21. Thanks to Snowmom and Wiccadstargazer! I got two in the mail today! Just like Christmas only this time it's Mama who's getting the gifts!!!
  22. Spider what a fun time you have planned with the "kids".. You sound like a pretty cool Aunt! Last day of the work week for me! Yeah! What's everyone got planned for this weekend? Probably another wood cutting weekend here.. Wow Unike, girl you need a bubble bath and a good book.. So what if the house doesn't get picked up today? Take a break.. Go lay down on the couch before dh does and just take a nap.. This is the day we get that wonderful 2 day paycheck! It's gonna really stink for a week around here with no money. But next week we will be ok again.. It's just gonna take a couple of weeks to catch things back up now.. Taxes are due.. I hope we can get them paid before too long. Oh well.. What's that saying Que Sara Sara?
  23. Have any of you ever raised these miniture cows before? Or known anyone who has? I hear the can be used to both milk and meat.. They only stand 44 inches tall and are only 1000 pounds.. You only get 400 pound of meat rather than 800 . But their milk is easier to digest and the cream seperates better.. Anyone else have any info?
