  1. Euphrasyne -sounds like your family will have a lot of fun for Halloween. I have to get Ben to pick a costume and get on that. I have some pumpkins on the porch but haven't gone big with my decorations yet. Next year I plan to up my game on that. Jeepers-So happy to hear that progress is being made on your house! Hope that this phase will be behind you soon. Mt Rider-Glad you are getting out to get some social time and glad you got a chance to go ride even if it was cold. Momo-It can be so challenging to find anyone who even knows what they are doing with house/yard work these days. We have found it very challenging as well. Annarchy-That's a big job glad you got it done you should feel very accomplished Littlesister- Glad you are enjoying the new grandbaby. Nothing better than those sweet newborn cuddles. Kappy-Great job preserving the zucchini! Our plants were very prolific this year but next year I want to dehydrate some I froze all of mine this year and it's taking up too much freezer space. Miki- You're off to a productive start to your day I'm sure you'll come up with something to keep you busy I don't have a lot to report except that my hubby and I are working on organizing the tools. They were all over the house. This weekend we got them sorted into bins by type (painting, woodworking, plumbing, etc) and only a few more areas to bring things in to sort then it will all go down to the basement except the small toolboxes. Looking forward to no more screws and picture hangers in random places all over the house. Right now they are all over my kitchen....but you sometimes have to make a mess before you can get it all organized. Should be done by tonight I hope I want my counters back
  2. Jeepers the person cleaning your ears should have stopped when you had pain and had the medical provider look in your ears. It's only supposed to be done for 10 min and you're supposed to stop if it's too painful. Debrox is used to soften the ear wax before the procedure and we have patients put it in their ears daily for 4 days before they come in to have their ears lavaged. If there is a perforation in the ear drum it can cause issues I think you should go back in to see your Dr and have them check for infection or perforation I'm worried there is something wrong you shouldn't still be having any discomfort. I'm so sorry that happened to you!
  3. Jeepers I've noticed the same thing about the frozen foods so many still seem scantily stocked. Littlesister so sorry you are having trouble sleeping. Lots going on and sometimes hard to turn the brain off can do that. Mt Rider I am with you I was up late last night catching up with Mrs S. Sorry this morning though I'm dragging Ooh that cheesecake sounds amazing Miki! I am only working half of the day today, comp time for working more earlier this week so I will try to do something fun this afternoon. I've been reading a lot and have 2 more books on hold at the library so will probably pop over there to pick those up. Tomorrow we have 4H so need to pick up some snacks for that. Need to schedule my flu shot. Other than that not much going on and I'm going to try to relax and just enjoy that.
  4. Congratulations Littlesister Mt Rider glad your Headache finally went away. Hope you start feeling better soon Miki how wonderful Congratulations!! It's so much cooler here now haven't turned on the heat yet but probably will need to soon. Focused on work today but did manage to get to the library to pick up a book I have on hold. Also just finished reading the Handmaid's Tale for my library book group. I have been reading a lot more lately. And knitting, almost done making a shawl for myself.
  5. Hello all I'm back to feeling more myself. Almost all better. Got out into the garden yesterday and cleared out all the tomato vines and then planted 40 cloves of garlic. We had a huge temperature shift in our area this week going from 90 down to the high 60's-mid 70's with it in the 40's at night so fall has arrived and it is such a relief the heat was starting to feel oppressive. I love having the windows open and to air out the house especially after everyone being ill.
  6. Oh boy so sorry this happened in your new workplace MartianChick! No one has the right to just walk in and demand access to anything. They can't be stopped from walking in the lobby and have the right to go to the open public spaces, but back office access opening drawers and filming children? Heck no. I agree play music in the lobby, post signs stating no filming, and maybe lobby to have a training on what to do in the future for these kinds of situation both for you and the security personnel. They let you down. I'd look into legal options for a lawsuit against this individual I'm willing to bet their actions broke several laws.
  7. Thank you everyone! Most in the house are on the mend, but I finally developed full symptoms. I guess my body was trying to fight it off since I've had some symptoms (fatigue, sweats and low grade fever) for 10 days now and just developed sore throat, congestion and body aches yesterday. Hoping it's short lived since I am ready to get my life back. I am just resting and doing little things that don't take too much energy. I have some garlic bulbs Music variety that I separated all the cloves for. I'll plant those soon but first have to clear out the spot in the garden where they will go but need to feel better before I tackle that. Jeepers so glad you have your hotel set up for the month and hope soon you can get back into your house. Littlesister I hope your GS was able to get signed up for the Coast Guard. You have been more than patient with him. Mt Rider so glad you will get to ride I know that is something that really helps you. Midnightmom thank you for that info! Patriotnurse is very knowledgeable.
  8. We are all on the mend I had the mildest symptoms just a low grade fever and that's gone now. DH had a bad cough so I got him on the Paxlovid and he is improving with that. Everyone else just has cold symptoms that are almost gone. I did end up re-homing my two remaining chickens today after I went out to the coop and one more was dead today. Super sad. But just not worth the stress for me right now to work on this. When we get a fence up I'll revisit it again with a different set up but not this year.
  9. Well it was a good run, but COVID finally came to our house. My 22 yr old picked it up on the plane and has tested positive today. DH has a cough now and since we sleep in the same bed I'm sure I've been exposed. I tested negative today, no symptoms crossing my fingers I stay that way. Miki I'm glad you're getting your porch decorated. I bought pumpkins at the farmer's market today and want to pick up a few more. Took photos but I need to get them off the camera so I can share. I plan to save the seeds since I don't have these varieties and then I can grow them for myself in the future. Littlesister glad you came through the storm without major issues Midnightmom I'm sorry that happened to you Jeepers glad the inspection headaches are good for something!
  10. Jeepers sounds like they are really making great progress on your house now. Littlesister hope the storm doesn't flood too badly. WE2 good to hear from you sounds like you're doing great! Miki I'm with you on the porch decorating. Hoping to pick up some mums and decorative Pumpkins then next few weeks and call in fall with my decor I am over the heat This week flew by, garden is still producing tomatoes, peppers and now eggplant I have two that are growing nicely. I had given up on them since I have had blossoms for a month but no fruit until this week. I also harvested some celery. The stalks are very tiny but I chopped up 2 bunches and the leaves will be good for soup. I am going to let the rest go a bit longer before harvesting it. My back is feeling a lot better but still babying it a bit. I plan to read and crochet this weekend, might go to the farmers market tomorrow.
  11. Hope your Birthday was extra special!
  12. Jeepers we had an issue with the carpet install 2 houses ago, they placed the line for the 2nd piece of carpet 2 feet inside the front door and then cut it crooked so it didn't even line up well. The quality of the carpet was so bad it was very obvious. We fought to get it fixed but did not get it done to our satisfaction and never got it resolved to our satisfaction. They cut another small piece and straightened the cut so it matched better but it was still visible. Did sell the house but I was very upset about it I felt it really lowered our ability to attract buyers. It really is true that customer service is dead now. Littlesister hope your GS liver improves. The good news is if he changes now liver is good at recovering and can regenerate healthy cells. Hopefully the mono clears up for him soon but it can take awhile to get healthy. Miki hope you can get the issue resolved on that package Annarchy in your area lizards are a great outdoor pet Today was long workday. I didn't stop until 6:30pm and then just ate dinner and put the chickens to bed. I harvested some basil and chopped it and froze it in ice cubes. Ben didn't know why someone had made a huge mess and smashed plants into the ice cube trays and threw one away before we could explain. It was funny. Fortunately I have a ton of basil left.
  13. That's very pretty Midnightmom. A shame no one seems to set that kind of table except for weddings or holiday meals anymore. I have a set of China, but we never have dinner guest so ours just gets used for the holidays or special occasions.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Back is improving a bit today I can bend forward enough to get up off the couch now. But this morning I almost couldn't get out of bed! I can roll to my right just fine but it took an insane amount of effort to figure out how to roll to my left side so I could leverage myself out of bed. I was actually scared I couldn't get up. Thankfully I managed and once i got up and moving around and took a hot shower I have done better today less painful and possible to get off the couch without help. Will be putting a big pillow under me tonight though so I'm not 100% flat. Sorry to hear so many of you have back issues too. I am usually very limber and only tweak my back every 10 yrs or so in general but when I do it's always bad. Today I mostly read a book for my book group that meets tomorrow. I didn't enjoy it very much though. Well they all can't be winners or my cup of tea I guess! It's starting to feel more fall like here temps are down in the 50's at night and only low 80's in the daytime. I am enjoying opening the windows again!
  15. Annarchy such a great deal on the tiller! Mine is a joke but it gets the grass off so I can use my broadfork. I really liked how well it worked for me this year. Glad you'll have the tools you need for the garden. Jeepers e Coli is much more likely to come from the meat you eat than the vegetables unless they were grown in contaminated soil. We also all have a bit of it in our gut bacteria, in general if we are healthy the intestinal flora stays in balance but sometimes antibiotics can upset that balance. You can ask your pharmacist what probiotics they recommend to use after your antibiotics are done to replenish what it will wipe out. We've always used Jarro-dophilis brand and had good results with it. Your Dr's office won't judge you for getting a UTI some people are just more prone to them no matter how good of hygiene they have. In general it's nothing you've done wrong. I would though make sure you are wearing cotton crotch undies as the other kind can cause issues. I hope that this is the last one you have to deal with anytime soon. I hope you can set up the realtor and then you even sign remotely. We didn't have to be here for the closing and when we sold our house in OR we did it remotely with a notary and faxed the papers. Littlesister I hope the raised garden beds help with your bunny issues. I was surprised nothing ate my garden. We have a lot of feral cats around here so I am sure they helped keep the vermin down. Eventually I want to add some raised beds too so I can grow on the area that has the gravel underneath it. I really jacked up my back it's the third day that it's hurt and I still have no idea what I did to make it hurt. It's not out of place just feels sprained. Have been putting heat on it and trying to use my legs to stand up instead of my back muscles. Squatting to get anything near the floor which helps but really need to be back to normal. Puppy does not understand why I'm "broken" and wants to play but I'm not able to do much so she's pouting. I'll make it up to her when I feel better. Chickens seem very happy to be back in their space. Still going well. I decided to wait until spring to get more chicks and see how it goes. I may pick up a radiant heat plate to keep in their coop to help keep them warm. No heat lamps as I'm really afraid of fire.
  16. Miki so glad Peanut Butter is doing better. Jeepers 2 months seems like a long time but in the construction world these days that's fast! I hope you can get a good price for it and get to your new home soon. I am sure you are more than ready to put all this behind you. The RSV is just newly available for babies and older people. I wish I could get one I got extremely sick with RSV pneumonia in 2017. Almost had to be admitted my 02 level didn't want to stay up. I do not want to get it ever again. Have had the other pneumonia shots and have been healthy since then. In my life my lungs have always been my weak spot. Littlesister hope your GS gets well soon. All 3 chickens were alive and healthy when I went out this am and no sign of anything disturbed. I had a training I could work and listen to at the same time today so organized some of my craft and office supplies while I worked, so it felt like a productive day
  17. Big day here the chickens went back out to the coop/run. It has been secured as well as we can get it. I'll wait until spring to replace the lost chickens and hope for the best. I am a bit concerned with only 3 that they won't be able to stay warm enough this winter. I wanted to wait until I'm really sure before adding any new chickens and thought I'd get some more chicks in the spring to replace the ones I've lost but if I need to get more to keep them all warm I should get them now so they will be fully feathered to go out before it gets super cold.
  18. Productive day today. Worked on tidying up back porch and entry in the front. Ordered a coat tree with umbrella stand as well. Going to put that in the vestibule so everyone can keep the outdoor items out of then nice spaces. Vacuumed the entry mat, and moved the boot tray into the vestibule. So my foyer is now shoe free I also moved the bag of potting soil down to the basement and the garden tools to the back porch. I want my front entrance to feel more normal which it does now. I need to source some antique matching square blue tiles to repair the tile in there, but until I can get that done the mat covers the broken/missing tiles. Also got outside and weeded/lopped off weed trees in one area of the yard when I went out to water the apple trees. They are holding up really nicely didn't lose any leaves so I think they are going to make it since we are out of the worst of the heat
  19. Wishing you a most special Birthday!!
  20. Annarchy that ramen looks delicious! Mowers can be such a pain glad you were able to get it to work for you. I'm hopeless with machines like that. I already know if DH can't do it I'll have to hire it out. Mt Rider glad you're starting to feel like you are improving. I have to bake a treat to take to my Quilting guild meeting for tomorrow but other than that my day involves paperwork for my new business and work for my actual job. DH is going to go buy the supplies to build the new run. Don't think much else is going to get accomplished today
  21. Thank you for letting us know Sygnet He will be missed
  22. Miki so glad you are done with the lithotripsy! Rest and hopefully that resolves the issue for you! Mt Rider glad you got treatment for your cough hope you feel better soon! Jeepers hopefully the vent passes the re-inspection, probably a minor fix and hope that's the last hiccup for your reno Littlesister sounds like you're making progress Today was a better day, Chickens are in my basement, DH is figuring out how to build a different run inside the carriage house (It is on concrete so I know they can't get under). Will be anchoring it to the inside wall of the carriage house. So no external walls for any critters to find an entrance into the run. Going to put two key locks on the door at the top and bottom to make sure no critters can pull or push the door open, put hardware cloth across the top of the run, and then beef up the nesting box locks (hasp lock with a key) on the coop inside the new run. If that doesn't do the trick nothing will. But poor birds are in a large dog crate until it's done. I rigged a small water dish in the door using a bento box style lunch container that I could mount on the door frame that isn't able to be knocked over. (this morning came down to an ungodly mess of water and feed and poop). Hoping less of a mess in the am this time. When he gets it done these chickens are all getting baths before I put them outside. I feel really awful about this. Eventually they will be able to go on the grass part of the day but for now they are inside birds.
  23. Miki will be thinking of you and wishing you a smooth lithotripsy procedure!! Jeepers so glad your inspection passed and you figured out the sunshield for your car. Littlesister glad you are taking a rest! Don't want to get overheated. I'm sad, we lost another chicken. I've got the three remaining ones in a dog crate in the basement overnight while we figure out what else we can do to try to secure the coop/run.
  24. Jeepers hope the inspection passed! Miki glad you can take something for the pain. And hope your lithotripsy happens on schedule! Littlesister hope you can get your canning jars/supplies organized how you like. I need to get mine in more organized fashion as well I have jars in one place, lids in another, the canners in 2 different places and the accessories in another place. They really should all go in the same area so I can find them. Project for fall once I've got more time. Back to work today after a long break, feeling really down today though. 4 chickens still in the coop today though so hopefully they will stay safe. DH went out with me to look at the fortifications we need to make. More hardware cloth for sure. And I think I know how they got in now so fixed that. We'll see depends on how big it is there is no way to secure the building I have the coop/run in 100% but they are not in the run at night now so that hopefully will help.
  25. Oh no Miki so sorry you got hurt I hope it feels better soon! Jeepers enjoy the GoPro please let us know how you like it. I've thought about getting one Littlesister glad your GS likes his part time job. Sad day here today. Went out to the chicken coop and something (probably a racoon) got 2 of my chickens. My favorite pretty Easter Egger and one of my Buff Orpingtons. I thought i had it secure enough but I guess not. I just feel bad that I let them down.
