  1. Miki so glad you got your necklace fixed Today was in a training all day at work so not much got done but put my plants on the porch this morning and don't have to bring them back in as it's finally warm enough at night to leave them out. Time to get them in the garden when I get the chance. My goal is no baby plants in the house by the end of the weekend. Have to start hardening off the remaining plants tomorrow that have sprouted. Will put the flats outside tomorrow and take down the grow lights for the season.
  2. So Sorry MomM somehow I misread the list and thought you were the 5th! Happy Birthday and hope you had a good one
  3. Family drama brings out the worst in everyone. Tears families apart. Always so sad. Hugs Euphrasyne I'm so sorry about your uncle. Nothing much here except work today. I did finish off the binding on my baby quilt and also finished an afghan I started about 15 yrs ago. I thought I would decide to pull out the yarn to do something else with it only to discover I had quit when I was almost done LOL. So I finished the last row, and the edging and that is one less UFO in my closet. I will gift it to my friend when she moves in as is the perfect color for a throw in the Living area she will have. Evaluating all the craft stuff I have and trying to either give things away or use them. Garden plants carried inside and out for the last time today. It will be 41 degrees tonight and then in the 60's at night for the foreseeable future so I think its safe to leave them out from now on. Hoping to get them all in the actual garden this weekend and be done with baby plants in the house.
  4. Wishing you a most special Birthday Darlene!
  5. Lots of spring cleaning going on for everyone sounds like! I did get some done myself cleared out the closet in the room that will be the bedroom for my friend. Put things in various places but still have to work out a permanent home for some of it. Art papers from my kids, old photo albums I need to go through so much "mementoes" and cut down yet again. I am terribly sentimental but even I recognize it's too much. Will buy a few bins and each kids stuff will go in one whatever fits and cut again until it does. Then those can go up in the attic. For now it's all in my office but it's all together now to process. Once the plants go outside I can reclaim shelving in the dining room and move the office books in there (It's a huge wall of shelving) and then that room will be done except for moving the furniture upstairs. Then I can clean and wax the floors and the rooms will be ready for her once the shower is fixed up (supplies ordered so hoping it will be done by the end of next week).
  6. Happy Birthday Midnightmom! Hope your birthday was extra special!
  7. Happy Sunday everyone! Spent today planting 25 raspberry bushes. Got them all in the ground in 2 fairly straight rows, still need to put up a support for them but glad I didn't let them die before they got in the ground. This is a nostalgic one for me as I have so many lovely memories of my grandmother and her raspberry bushes. She had a huge patch and made jam and froze them and we ate big bowls with cream and sugar and berries together every time I would visit. So a core memory for me. So happy to have some of my own here. It hailed a little bit but then cleared up. I still need to plant the tomatoes and cucumbers and pepper plants but will do those tomorrow as I ran out of energy after digging all those holes. I haven't been sleeping well the past few nights due to pain from my cardiac defibrillator scar tissue which probably is being aggravated by all the digging I've been doing so I'm going to pace myself. Also today finished a book I was reading for book group. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. Oh my what a heartfelt book. Loved it so much.
  8. Sorry things are still so rough with your GS Littlesister. Jeepers hope your computer holds up at least until you can get it backed up. Mine is kind of falling apart too because I dropped it But it still runs I just don't close it anymore. Ambergris you have a lot going on, hope the cat drama stops soon. At least when you move will likely stop Mt Rider hope the PT helps. I got good benefit when I did mine last year. Euphrasyne so glad you got some time to yourself it really is important. I had a great day today. Ben and I went and volunteered at the new community garden. We helped fill raised garden beds and then the lady from a local orchard taught all the 4 H kids about the plants they were planting so he got to help with that too Then we came home and planted a bunch of our starts. I got Artichokes, Onions, Eggplant, Celery, and Potatoes planted today. Tomorrow will do my Raspberry plants, tomatoes and cucumbers. Will hold off on planting my peppers another week so it is a bit warmer at night as it will be dipping into the 40's tonight. I am really happy after spending the whole day with my hands in the dirt.
  9. So glad to hear this update Virginia!
  10. Hi everyone sorry I haven't been able to keep up this week. Still working 2 jobs at work and exhausted. Having trouble concentrating at home because I am overwhelmed. Got off work at 10:30 pm last night due to the monthly board meeting, and cried myself to sleep last night out of pure frustration and exhaustion. First time I've cried like that in a long time then had a migraine all day but still had to work today. So I called up my boss and had a good chat and she was supportive and will push to get that other position hired quickly. I am lucky she understands what I do and how much work it is and that I'm burning out. So we'll see what happens. Managed to get the last level of my Greenstalk planter filled with dirt tonight so one tiny garden step completed. Hardened off transplants I'm hoping to put in the ground tomorrow, except for the tomatoes. I'm tempted but I think I should wait until the overnight temps are over 50. Then will start hardening off the pepper plants which as still kind of puny in size and could use some real sun but I wanted to wait until it warmed up a bit outside. It has been colder so now getting nice again. Baby chicks are growing and want to get their coop completed this week. DH had to glue together part of it so we had to wait so that could set.
  11. With everyone's treats we can have an early picnic BBQ, lemonade, scones and banana oatmeal cookies! Virginia and Mt Rider sending prayers! My mom had Mohs a few years back and did really well with it. Good luck to your DH's! It's been lovely here and I'm getting excited about spring. Flowers are blooming, birds are hatching babies, and I think last night was the last frost ( a week after the official last frost date so I'm making notes in my garden journal). I bought 3 climbing roses to plant so hoping to get them in just the right spot this week.
  12. Alrighty just saying hello, how ya been, anything interesting going on in your life? Please stop by the porch and have a nice cup of tea (still too chilly here for lemonade) and check in! I've got a big batch of Cranberry scones in the oven if you'd like one!
  13. ((((Littlesister)))I don't blame you it's quite enough and you deserve to have peace in your space and not have your house made a mess all the time. A shame about the window hope you can get it replaced quickly. Mt Rider hope the med does help and that the anxiety goes away. I have bad anxiety so I understand how uncomfortable that is. Kappy your yard sounds wonderful and glad you are getting to know what grows in your area. We have some kind of wild onion growing in our yard it makes small bunches and is all over the place. We have some plants in my yard that I Id'd as snakeberry which looks just like a wild strawberry. The birds love them. I am sure it is the Potentilla Indica variety. So has some medicinal uses. Otherwise some violets, dandelions and peoney and hosta plants. I didn't know until this year that Peoney flowers and hosta shoots are edible. I really want to learn more about edible wild plants. And domestic ones that I will be growing I got all my 100 strawberry plants in the ground today (some in Greenstalk planters and some in the soil) and 10 asparagus plants. I had to dig a trench and spent 5 hrs in the garden today broadforking and with my son using the tiller we got it cleared and ready to plant. It's supposed to be a frost advisory on sunday so I'll wait until after that's over to put in my hardened off transplants. I'm just barely going to have enough room to get some of everything in, but most likely will be donating a bunch of tomato starts to the community garden as I planted a lot and not sure if they will all fit. I will pick the best ones to plant. I will plant another 10 asparagus plants tomorrow but I was too tired to dig another trench today Ibuprofen is my friend tonight I also got all the laundry done and put away and made dinner. Now I'm going to work on the baby quilt binding
  14. Jeepers you got so much done glad you had a good trip! Don't worry we'll get the exact rules from the city on the distance from the line the fence has to be and pull the right permits, etc. But he's not getting 1 inch over what is allowed. He knows the property line is smack up against his house but still driving his car on our property so I am done being nice. Ambergris that salad looks amazing Littlesister hope you feel better and the muscle relaxer helps! Miki love chicken and dumplings. You all are making me hungry My blueberry bushes (10) arrived today. I planted 5 in pots and will put 5 in the ground. It started raining mid planting so I got the potted ones in but with lightning starting decided the others could wait until tomorrow. I'll be putting them in to make a "living fence" along my path near my peony bushes I think there is enough room I can just dig holes and put them in. DH tried to use our tiny rototiller but had to stop due to the weather as well. He did pick up the potting soil I needed for my greenstalks so I will get those filled tomorrow and put in the strawberry plants. Then I'm just going to have to make a bed for the asparagus so I don't lose the plants. I really had thought I'd have my garden soil ready by the time these plants came but no such luck. We'll figure something out
  15. (((Littlesister))) Glad your GS got the job hope it works out for him. Mt RIder so glad you are sleeping better! It makes life so much more bearable. Miki glad you were able to get your teeth taken care of and able to spend more time outside. It's been lovely here so I am looking forward to the weekend hoping to get out in my garden. My seedlings the first batch is hardened off ready to plant as soon as I get the ground rototilled! My asparagus and strawberries arrived today so I need to get them in the ground tomorrow. Hoping my son and hubby can get that done for me.
  16. Thanks for the idea Mother, Midnightmom and Littlesister! I think putting my greenhouse there is a great idea! I will see how far the gravely area extends. If it's a lot I'll also add raised beds there. I have another area in mind for the in ground garden and I'll put flowers there once I get the raised bed veggi gardens in the future. No funds to do that this year but it's part of the longer term vision. Had a great day at work today a really important year long project got completed sucessfully today and I got recognized for my work which always feels nice Littlesister hope your GS gets the job and the apartment! Miki so glad you and your DH's cars can be fixed. Tough to walk everywhere for long. Mt Rider hope you feel better soon and glad you have a plan to help your mom remember her meds. Caregiving from far away is hard.
  17. Everyone is busy! I spent today mostly doing laundry and puttering around organizing. Laid back day which I really needed. We did not get the ground tilled yesterday unfortunately part of where I wanted to put the garden has gravel right under the grass so I think there was a driveway there previously. Then we had a thunderstorm and too wet today so will keep hardening plants off and aim for next sunny day to get one of us out there to till in my alternate location. Have an issue now with neighbor who lets his dogs out loose and when asked used some nasty language towards me and my family so will be putting in a fence which I can't afford but now cannot afford not to. I hope he enjoys the fence being 3 ft from his house which is where the property line is! No more nice me.
  18. Oh my gosh Littlesister thank you so much for that reminder for tie downs! I haven't put my greenhouse together yet but I really don't want to put it up and then have it blow away! Mt Rider so sorry about your landlord's troubles hope they heal up soon. Euphrasyne you got so much done! and what a cute lunch Miki love homemade bread bet your house smells amazing I am going to quilt guild sewing day tomorrow. Really looking forward to it I worked way too much this week and need some playtime. My plants are loving the real sun I had them out 6 hrs today. Going to till my garden and hopefully plant the first batch of plants on Sunday
  19. Ambergris I've watched her channel before she has some good tips. Mt Rider prayers that there are no fires Littlesister hope you start feeling better soon. Today was all about wrapping up the never ending work project but we got what we needed done. At home I started hardening off some of my seedlings. Need to make more room under the grow lights and get the plants I have started in the ground soon. Baby chicks are growing and doing well.
  20. Mt Rider hope the neurologist can figure out what will be helpful or at the least give you some answers on what is going on. Annarchy really hope the A/C situation can get sorted out. Have a great trip Jeepers! Littlesister probably easier just to buy a new post hole digger not sure if I've ever seen just the handles on sale for those. I need to get to digging post holes too Want to put up my trellises. I have put the one together but it is still inside the house. Have the posts just need to dig holes! Then I can put the other one together. DH still working on taxes it was more complicated than usual this year due to sale of our old house and multiple state tax returns to do but I think we are getting close now. We have lots of plants started I just need to get the garden bed tilled and start hardening off the ones I started last month. Planted pumpkins and watermelons today with Ben for his garden space in cups. So will put those out in a few weeks. I have hopes we will get some garden even without me fussing over the plants. Will have 2 still at home while we are gone in June to keep it watered, and going to use a lot of landscape fabric to keep the weeds down since I know they won't remember to weed it. So we will see. Worst case I replant things when I get home for a fall garden
  21. Ooh Looking forward to trying this recipe Dee once I have some ripe zucchini this summer
  22. This weekend was very full. Saturday we painted the Living room. With 11 ft ceilings it was quite the job. Just need to re-hang the light fixture and eventually will add crown molding. Easter yesterday very laid back, then today was my youngest son's birthday. I took the day off so had a 4 day weekend. Was nice but going to be hard to go back to work tomorrow!
  23. I need to get re-usable bags. No charge here yet but in Oregon they started charging for bags and then most stores stopped carrying paper bags which I used for my paper recycling. They don't recycle paper here just cardboard so more stuff in the landfill. I use the plastic bags to line my small garbage cans but they give you so many now at Walmart practically one per item that I always have too many. I am not good at taking them back to the store to recycle them either so I would do better with re-usable. Thanks for the reminder I'm going to go put some in my Amazon order
  24. Thanks for the reminder Dee I have some mulberries in the freezer and some tomatoes I need to use up as well as some pumpkin. I have some time this weekend so maybe I'll make a mulberry pie and pumpkin muffins.
  25. Thank you everyone I had a lovely Birthday
