  1. Beautiful party and daughter did a great job helping <3 So sorry about your friend's daughter
  2. So sorry about your husband's shoulder Euphrasyne! Jeepers I feel the same way you do about the drive up ATMs I never can reach and it's so annoying to have to unbuckle and open my door to reach them. I much prefer the walk up ATMs but my bank only has the drive up one. I wish they'd just put one inside the bank for self service I'd feel a lot safer. I rarely use cash but sometimes I need to get some. I usually just get extra with a purchase in the store when I remember to. I am flying to Oregon with my youngest son today to visit my dad and my oldest daughter. Its been a year since I visited her so I am really happy. Heading out to th airport in about 2 hrs and we will be flying back on the 24th. So it's going to be a different holiday since I never travel so close to Christmas. Hoping the airport isn't too crazy.
  3. I'll be out of town until the 24th but wanted to wish both of you a very special birthday on the 20th! Hope you have a fabulous celebration
  4. Hope everyone feels better soon it's that time of year when all the viruses are out. I am getting ready for my trip leaving this weekend to visit my dad and my oldest daughter in Oregon. Taking just Ben with me and it's his first time on a plane so we'll see how that goes. I will be on vacation for two weeks, one away and then we come home on the 24th and I'll be out the rest of the year. I really need the time off so I am looking forward to it. I've been agitated and anxious all week due to money issues. The roof repair has fixed 90% of the leaking, but we think now part is leaking through the siding on the house (the leak is a porch roof) as we found a small wet patch just on the floor where the porch meets the old siding. So will have to bring the repair guy back but I'm running out of extra funds. Can still pay my bills but not room in my budget for extras. But I know I can't allow water to keep leaking into my house...so we will find a way to pay for the fix somehow. I am trying to focus on what I have to be thankful for and not on the mile long list of must fix items. Thankfully most of them won't hurt anything in the short term but I will have to work out a way to make them happen in the next few years (replacing all the old plumbing tops the list as its only a matter of time before something leaks).
  5. Wishing you a most special Birthday!
  6. Hope you have a fabulous birthday Cleanheart!!
  7. Got to quilt guild today it was our Christmas party so we had a nice luncheon and also played some fun games. Then came home and made gingerbread dough. Put half in the fridge to chill and will bake that tomorrow and half in the freezer to bake on Christmas. I'm flying out to visit my dad and getting back Christmas eve so I wanted to make some goodies to leave for my hubby and older son who will be here alone that week so they have some treats leading up to Christmas day. I also need to wrap gifts this weekend. I am making one or two more types of cookies this weekend but I think I may just leave it at that and make some others after Christmas if I feel up to it. I took that week off too so will have time to relax and bake. That's my whole plan for the weekend just relaxing and enjoying the lead up to the holidays Also happy to report the roof and window repairs are completed as well as the threshold to the door is replaced so making progress on the house but will hold off until the new year with anything new
  8. Good morning Miki! Sounds like you are off to a good start today. I will wrap up my work week. This weekend focusing on Christmas prep. I need to wrap gifts and will make cookie dough to freeze to bake later. I also need to get some things tidied up.
  9. Feel better soon Jeepers! As far as the tiny scraps, just scrape the plate into the trash it's just you. Anything else you can just take a small bit of paper napkin and wipe off the plate and then wash and you should be fine. As far as the TP just look up whatever brand you use to make sure it's septic safe most are but some don't break down so best to check. Annarchy love your garden space Miki what a wonderful job with all those loaves baked and ready to go I had a lovely surprise today. I had a greenhouse on my wish list for Christmas and my daddy bought it for me I am so happy as I wanted to try to grow my own seedlings and my house is not set up to have enough space with windows that get enough light to be successful. So this will be fun.
  10. Miki I'm sure your house is going to smell amazing with all that banana bread baking EmeraldCat sorry you had so much nausea it's unfortunate the medical team didn't manage that better for you. It's a really big issue for lots of people. I'd encourage you to give them that feedback through their complaints and grievance system so it can be a learning experience for their medical team (I work in quality and we do read and act on all of the issues brought to our attention). When we see trends we know we need to do more education or take actions to create standard procedures such as a nausea protocol. Super glad they didn't find anything bad during your procedure! Jeepers all I know about septic tanks is they need pumping occasionally and to be careful what types of detergents and TP you use (need to be septic safe) and not to do too much at once (like run dishwasher and washing machine at the same time). My understanding is the leech field takes time to let the liquid drain (much like when you have overflowing gutters when it rains faster than they can drain the water). Littlesister I think you are right to take some time just to enjoy the season. We can't be on overdrive all the time. We2 good to see you posting! I am gearing up for my trip to visit family and need to get all my gifts wrapped since I come back on Christmas Eve. Just taking Ben with me this time. I have an important work project to wrap up before I go so that's where most of my focus will go. House repairs continue and next up is the threshold of the door which the guy has to special order a double width one to fit. It's almost completely worn through after 124 yrs. I also got two rows of weed blocker fabric down in my new garden space. I have to keep ordering in small batches until I get enough to cover all of it, but budget means a bit at a time which is fine. Otherwise not much exciting going on which is the way I like it
  11. Praying for all in the path of the bad weather!
  12. EmeraldCat hope your procedure went ok! Miki thanks I am looking forward to it. I hope you can find some shoes that work for you Littlesister sounds like your day was pretty productive! MtRider oh no that sounds like your body is needing a really deep rest. I hope that you start to feel better soon. Focused really hard on work this week got a lot done the last 2 days. Really tired physically and for whatever reason my asthma is acting up so I'm going to take it easy the rest of the week. I am wondering if it was exposure to mold when I was raking leaves. They were wet and I know that is a big no-no per my allergist for me. Honestly he told me I couldn't garden but it just isn't possible for me to follow that so...I guess I'll have to try wearing an N95 when I'm touching anything potentially moldy and see if that works.
  13. Miki sorry the shoes didn't work out. It's getting harder and harder to find any with decent quality. The last pair of tennis shoes I bought were Champion brand and were better than most. I have really wide feet so hard for me to find ones that fit, then also to find quality it hard. I'm happy with these so far. Mt Rider glad you were home when you ran out of gas. Jeepers sounds like you got some great deals. That cast iron frying pan should last your GS a lifetime Got Ben signed up for 4H and I enrolled myself as a volunteer so hoping that we can start to make some connections with other families in the area. Everyone else I've connected with has grown kids or no kids so I really needed to find something not sports related and this seems perfect.
  14. Sending best wishes for a smooth procedure EmeraldCat!
  15. Wishing you a fabulous birthday!
  16. I had RSV pneumonia in 2017 (I am particularly vulnerable to all respiratory infections due to my asthma). It nearly put me in the hospital and they almost sent me home on oxygen. It was the worst shortness of breath I've ever had. For young babies and toddlers and the elderly/immunecompromised it can be extremely serious. Most people who have it just think they have a cold. If you know anyone with young children or who are vulnerable just be considerate and wear a mask or stay home if you have cold symptoms, wash your hands, etc. So much comes back to common sense and not being around those who are ill or going out when we are ill.
  17. Huge hugs to everyone who has lost family and missing their loved ones
  18. I keep typing up my posts and then forgetting to hit submit Had a nice Thanksgiving. Very easy prep with all my new countertops. Poultry fencing arrived yesterday and I put it up. It will be triple purpose- a "fence" for the rules about keeping poultry in town, a surrounding fence to keep critters out of my garden and a place for me to let my dog Ruby out to run around in the yard until we get a proper fence put up. I also bought a chicken coop with a run which will go in once I put it together. Not getting my chicks until April but it's taking me so long to do anything I wanted to get a head start. Also helps me to plan my layout for next spring's garden.
  19. Wishing all 3 of you a fabulous birthday tomorrow!
  20. In my happy place today. First big cooking in my new kitchen and I have been able to measure and chop and mix and clean up as I go along and it's been a dream today. Happy Thanksgiving!
  21. Glad your mom's house sold Mt Rider I know it's emotional to say goodbye to the place but sounds like a real financial blessing for your mom. I hope you can get some rest soon and start to feeling better. Miki sorry about the shoes always annoying when they don't fit well and give blisters. My new tennis shoes need breaking in but so far seem to fit ok. I have such wide feet it can be hard to find ones that don't pinch my toes. Emeraldcat Great job on the yard work! Feels so great to get that done. We've been raking leaves and they vacuumed them up so I just have the back yard and one corner of the front now to do. We'll keep workng on it. Yesterday I raked up 10 big bags and put them out on the curb. It hardly made a dent in that section of the yard they are so deep in that part! Big old leaves about as big as a dinner plate Jeepers glad you found some paper. I just bought a pack of construction paper the other day too for our homeschooling art supplies. They had nice big packs at our Walmart hope yours restocks Littlesister if your GS likes ham you could always can up the turkey for yourself and buy him a ham to take to his new place I am getting excited to bake pie tomorrow Making apple and pumpkin and if I'm feeling really ambitious maybe chocolate but that might wait until Christmas
  22. Mine are 90% finished just need to find my ribbon so I can add loops to hang and then will get them in the mail by Friday! Snowmom I got yours in the mail today and waiting to open until I mail mine
  23. (((((Mt Rider))))) So sorry you fell that sounds so painful Jeepers I like the idea of using velcro that might be a good option for "inside" storm windows too. Will look into it once the windows are repaired for the attic since all of them are single pane older windows Euphrasyne - I have never been very successful at growing seeds inside. I think a greenhouse or growlights woule be the best bet to get good healthy starts to grow. I have heard good things about using soil blocks and hope to try those when I'm ready to try that. This year I'm going to try to direct seed everything outside since I have a long growing season and not a lot of $ to buy plants or grow lights. Littlesister glad your family is getting on board with being more self-sufficient and prepared. Miki hope your outing was successful! I raked leaves, ordered all the extended family Christmas gifts and fencing for my garden. In order to make sure I can afford the chicken coop I got a temporary style of garden fencing that I think will work well until I can put in more permanent fencing. I have been raking leaves almost all the front part of the property is raked now. The other leaves will get raked into the new garden space to compost over the winter.
