  1. Littlesister glad you got your shelving up! I get what you mean about regretting the money spent on the house, I feel that way a bit too but remind myself that the wiring would have been a huge risk to leave as is, and having a functional kitchen where I can preserve food properly will be important. We can only move forward and having a house without fire and leaks is kind of needed Not much on my agenda today except work and more laundry but that's a good place to start!
  2. Hope your birthdays are extra special today!!
  3. Euphrasyne So sorry for your loss. I'm back from 10 days out of town for work, and feeling out of the loop so sorry if I missed any other big news. I read through but too much to comment on so just saying hi and sounds like everyone else is doing ok. Mt Rider glad your strength is coming back a bit! I'm going to spend the next week doing laundry, unpacking and trying to finish the window plastic I started before I left. Also raking leaves will be top of my list fo the forseeable future
  4. Sorry everyone I meant to post that I'd be out of town on business and then didn't take my home computer with me. I missed a few birthdays and hope you all had a lovely celebration with family and friends. Can you all please wish Kygal, Pixie, Poohbear, Lois, gardnmom, Peacefulhome and redhenfarm a very happy Birthday!
  5. MtRider really hope you feel better soon
  6. Got my flu shot and shingles #2 and bi-valent COVID booster today so happy about that since I'm flying this next week and going to be around a lot of more people over the next few weeks. Then we went to Menards and Lowes and got all the weatherstripping supplies. Before we left I re-organized my pantry and my laundry room so feeling very accomplished. Only got before pics of the laundry room so posting my before and after of the pantry. I couldn't even step inside it before and now it's very accessible. The buckets will go down to the basement when I get some more food cannisters to put smaller amounts in the pantry. Have to get some shelving set up in the basement for food storage and paper products will go up in the attic. I still need to get some crates for potatoes and onion storage for the shelving on the left and move the wallpaper out of there so I have more room for cans and jars of food. Way up top I still have two open shelves that are really high up so may put paper products up there but need a ladder to get there.
  7. Really busy week. Welcome EmeraldCat! Sounds like you have a great set up for your homeschooling. MtRider so glad you got to go back for your family reunion. Those area always so fun. Jayceef my husband has dyslexia and loves audiobooks. Of course still work on the regular reading but they are a great way to get kids to enjoy stories and they can learn other content by listening just as well so look into those possibilities so he can learn while he is working on the reading. Nowadays with all the video content/documentaries that is good too for alternative ways to keep up with grade level content. Outoftheordinary glad the magnesium is helping you! Littlesister so glad your pantry is coming together! That's on my list to work on this weekend. My plan this weekend - reorganize my pantry it's currently just stuff shoved in there as we cleared the space to move everything into the new kitchen and I have boxes in there that need to go elsewhere. I want to be able to step into it so I can get to the shelving and with all the boxes and buckets in there it's not possible and not working for me. It's 11 feet high ceilings so I have shelves on top I need a ladder to get to but that's a good place for those seasonal items I only use once a year like the easter baskets, and Christmas cookie cutters. Then we are also running to Home Depot and buying all the door weatherstripping and doing all the doors in the house since half have old crumbling or missing weatherstripping. The front door had nothing and it was like a wind tunnel in my entryway last winter so that is first on the list! I also want to replace two outside doorknobs that don't work well and we don't have keys for. So that's my ambitious weekend plan we'll see how far I get. Might also run to the store and stock up on chicken and hamburger. I have a big freezer with almost nothing in it so want to remedy that as I still feel like my food supplies are way too low.
  8. Hope your have a wonderful Birthday!!
  9. Wishing you both the most wonderful Birthday!
  10. Jaceef I have heard good thing about Sylvan. Be sure to get a vision check too as sometimes it's a tracking issue or other vision issue with seeing up close. One of my kids had to have vision therapy but then did fine for reading. Turns out he has one eye that sees blurry up close and the other that sees blurry far away so no matter what his vision was off until we got that addressed. Mine don't struggle with reading but they all did with writing. Youngest is currently writing about 2 yrs below grade level but is able to write a decent paragraph now so things are starting to click. He's homechooled so I don't worry about the grade level as long as we are progressing.
  11. Wishing both of you a wonderful Birthday!
  12. Welcome back Mt Rider! Miki glad you got to order your curtains. I am working on washing all of mine. With these tall windows it's challenging! Enjoy your movie Littlesister! Just work for me today. And laundry. I did order some plastic window kits to seal the older windows and the upstairs porch door. Still have to get the right door kits to get the weatherstripping but will do that this next weekend.
  13. I have an old house so this video was really helpful for me. I am doing this this week/next weekend
  14. Miki that is too bad about the offer being so low hopefully they will change their mind and wait a bit. Jayceef yes flexibility with little ones is really important. It's ok though to look at other options if the management turns out to not be a good fit. I don't know of any workplace that would allow you to carry on the premises but maybe look for a new place to work that already has onsite security and not next to the jail once your kids are a little older? You might find a place to work that gives you that flexibility without the headache but only you will know what is right for you and if a job isn't working for you anymore. Jeepers I can relate to the squirrel effect and also getting overwhelmed. I find since my move I can only focus on one thing at a time and the stuff exhausts me. Three years in a row of moving/unpacking/moving/unpacking and trying to organize has me burnt out on things. I have decided for now to just work on one room at a time until I have it the way I want it before worrying about the rest. I still have boxes in every room except one wing which has the LR and kitchen, laundry and one bathroom (which needs a total renovation at this point). There is always something more to do. This month I am focusing on outside and winterizing too. Our front door has NO weatherization and it was like a wind tunnel in our entryway. I have 6 doors to weatherize/re-weatherize as some have some weatherstripping but none of it is in good shape. Every door has 2 doors (front door is a uninsulated double door, with 2nd set inside decorative swinging doors that can't be weatherized on the vestibule), art room used to be a back porch but has a radiator has just one door, then swinging doors to the foyer that are inside doors which provide a buffer, back stairs door is one door, then inside door at top of that stairway up the stairwell that is uninsulated, and back porch door with inside door both need weatherstripping replaced. Going to be a chore but will be much warmer once I do that plus add sweeps on the bottom of all the outside doors. I will buy this week and install next weekend. Today it's going to be pulling ivy again but I am making progress! Pulled all my green tomatoes off the vine and the tomato cages will get disassembled today and the vines cut off to put on the compost pile. I got about 10 lbs green tomatoes will try to ripen some but going to try making green tomato bread with the remainder.
  15. Hope your birthday is great!
  16. Thank you Miki! I am so very grateful for it. Hope you found some curtains you like! Jeepers oh so very sorry that happened. Yes reflux can be very painful and like Littlesister says can cause erosion of the esophagus. I hope you can find a way to get your symptoms under control and not have to suffer with that any more. Littlesister glad your GS seems like he will listen about the vape. Good info from Lifeline glad you had that done. Low Vitamin D really can cause issues as well as thyroid out of whack. My D is low too and it makes me have muscle pain. Even on a supplement it barely gets into normal range. Sure wish I knew why. Today was just work for me. I made apple butter last night but both the quart lids didn't seal right so one went in the fridge the other into the freezer. I know why though I forgot to wipe my jars before putting the lids on. That's why it's best not to do it at midnight when you're tired. Tastes good though.
  17. Thought I had posted yesterday but I didn't hit post....so trying again. Littlesister so sorry things are rough with your grandson. I hope he matures enough to take the steps needed to benefit from your help. Kappy so glad your garden is producing so well. I love chicken tractors my grandma had one and it really worked well for her. Miki enjoy the nice weather and the walks I am soaking up the pleasant temperate days before it gets too cold too Bought some beans this week 20# and picked the last of the ripe tomatoes. Will have a bunch of green ones to ripen on the windowsill before I rip out the vines. It will get too cold soon for them so I thought I'd let DH mow that area and be done for the year. I got confirmation today my student loans were forgiven in full
  18. Message sent and so happy to participate again this year I've missed it several years and looking forward to it along with my friend Sue. She's a super talented crafter
  19. She says she will pop in soon to post about the ornament exchange
  20. Fun lesson on how to catch a fish for kids Ben has expressed interest in learning to fish so I thought I'd share
  21. Hope both of you had fabulous birthdays!!
  22. I will message her and ask. If not I will volunteer to organize it. We usually post it in October if I am remembering right
  23. I spent today sewing quilt blocks for a charity project my quilt guild is working on. We have made 68 quilts so far with the goal of 100 quilts to donate to Sleep in Heavenly Peace a local group that makes beds for children who don't have them. I find it shocking so many kids in our area go without a proper bed. Sure is a reminder of how blessed my family is. Picked the last ripe tomatoes, still a bunch of green ones on the vine. Watching temps carefully will harvest before our first frost. Anyone have good green tomato recipes in case these don't ripen in time? Bought a big bag of beans and some trail mix for the pantry too. And very proud of myself for remembering to return my library book so it isn't going to be overdue!
  24. She posted yesterday on FB so she is ok. She isn't online much these days.
  25. MIki so sorry you fell and hope you don't bruise too badly. Mt Rider so glad they got that fire out before it spread Euphrasyne hope you feel all better soon so sorry you were sick! Littlesister- it is amazing isn't it what people take an issue with and go bonkers over every little thing, but in other areas there is no rhyme or reason to what is allowed and then you end up with big trash piles and no one cares in other areas. I feel I am one of the lucky ones as my career does pay enough that it justified the expense even if I had to pay off that balance I would have been able to before I retired and it has supported our family. Getting started with my career late in life made it hard though to save for retirement at the same time so I can up my contribution now and also pay off the house faster which will be very good. I don't want to enter retirement in 15 yrs with any debt. I have been pulling ivy. Making progress but boy there is a lot of it!
