  1. Mt. Rider, you take care of that wrist and don't over use it.  And above all don't slip on that ice. That is the last thing you need to have happen. Our cold weather hits tonight. But right now it is in high 60's.  Feels good out there now, But just wait till about 3 am. ouch! Going down into 30's I think.

WE2,  I think you might be right. Our winter is getting ready to take hold.  We have had some cold days and then warm but I have a feeling this time it will get cold and stay that way through March.

    • Thanks 1
  2. Hey Mt. Rider, Annarchy had me call her and I am now in.  I have a lot of reading to do. Thank you for letting me know about fireside. I am sure I could learn a lot from all the stories.  Jeepers thank's for your help as well.  Reading the stories will be a lot of fun and a learning curve as well.

  3. WE2, that stew looks so good.  You're making me hungry.

New tools are great. But DH has more tools than he will ever use.

Took DH to gastro doctor this morning. He was not in good shape. So swollen he could not keep his balance and I had to hold on to him the whole time.  They decided at this time not to do the colonoscopy as they think the blood thinner played a part in the bleeding he had. Ruptured blood vessel. Though we did discuss his swallowing issues and doc. agrees he needs to have that checked into. But they do not want to put him through nocking him out if they don't have to.  So he is going to have a barron swallow done to see what might be goig on. It may be just that he needs to has his throat stretched. But doc. did take a good look at his labs and they were bad. Liver counts are way up and his primary doc. said nothing. So DH goes back to him Thursday and I have a copy of the labs and we are going to have a chat about why he is not doing anything nor even mentioning anything about the bad results.  It is so hard to find good doctors around here anymore. Don't think the primary doctor is going to like me when I tell him I want answers as to why DH is going down hill like this and he says nothing.  I still think it is the Eliquis but doc. has to look into and he is doing nothing.

But on another note, after we got home, I got him settled and then started washing clothes and started dusting and trying to get things together for Christmas. It will be here before I am ready.  Trying to get things done and running back and forth to different doctors is a job in it's self. But some how I will manage.

Stay safe and warm, no slipping on ice or snow everyone. This weather is a roller coaster ride.

  4. today was warmer than yesterday.  But now it is drizzle rain and going to turn bitter cold tonight. Hard to believe that it will be bitter cold later tonight when the last two days has been in 70's.  That is a disapointment. I like the weather being in the low 70's. It can stay that way all year and I would be happy.

  5. Wow. We had 70 degrees today and will be that again tomorrow but with rain. Then tomorrow night the freezing temps come. Not looking forward to that. Stay safe and no falling on ice. Those are the times I stay home and don't go out unless I have to for some reason.  I am not fond of snow and ice these days. Though it is pretty, it can be so dangerous.

Well off to bed as DH is heading that way as well. So need to help him get his socks off so he can get ready for bed.

    Later.

Wow, Little Sister.  How did you get lost in the archives back in 2010????  Phew, dusty down here.  I see member names that I don't even remember on this thread.  Most of them we still miss......

I think Annarchy will see this or the post I just did over in the current What Are You Reading thread.  Then she can push the buttons to let you see that.  Wait for it....it will be near the bottom of the list of forums.....

MtRider  ...seem to be chasing you around the board tonite.

Got lost trying to find Fireside. Don't think I found it yet. Or maybe I did and didn't know it.  Thanks. I'll be watching for it.

I ran into Lights Out before he had published it as a book.  It was just posted up on his site.  I liked it....have a copy of it.  Haven't read it in many years...so I might dig it out sometime.

I was searching out Post-Hooey stories before they began to E-publish them for money.  Have read many of them .....before they had their final edits, I guess.

Little Sister.....have you requested access to the Forum called Fireside.  It's not open for those who just lurk here.  But you've been here a few months now and can have access.  There are a lot of stories down there...read for free.  Just members of MrsS .....some who started here down in Fireside and have gone on to publish with Kindle.  We haven't had a lot of activity down there for a long time tho.

:whistling:   And some of us never did get around to finishing some stories....

    MtRider  :reading:

Did not know about Fireside. I will check it out. Thank you for the input about it. Maybe I can find some good stories to read there.

    Thank you.

I assume you have done everything including requesting e-coupons for Prodaxa? Sometimes when the insurance company chokes, you can get these amazing e-coupons that bring your first three months down to ten bucks so they can get you on the hook.  Then you find some other deal, hopefully, for the next three months.

Ambergris,  i have gotten the e-coupons and some of the drug stores refused them. I am going to see if doc. has samples to get me through till after the 1st of year as we have changed his RX insurance to something that won't be a pain about the prices that we have to pay. Hoping the new insurance will work out.

  9. Our phones are consumer cellular and mine is a piece of crap. I am thinking about looking into the jitter bug phones.

Prices are still going up but some good sales because of holidays.  Just have to watch for them. The sweet potatoes I got for 19 cent a lb. has not been that cheap since. So glad I got some to can.  I will do it again if they go that cheap again. Watching now for chicken to go on sell so I can get some of that canned. I am getting low on chicken.

The TP I get on Amazon prime on a by monthly basis is the family pack 32 mega rolls of Cottonelle. These are the same size as what they sold years ago before cutting it back and inlarging the cardboard to make it look like you are getting the same amount.  I am paying 29.00 aeach time it is delivered and free shipping though now I have to pay sales tax. These rolls are huge and I haven't seen any brand including the cottonelle in stores as big as these rolls. The deal is the more you put on an auto ship, the cheaper the prices. So far I only have 3 items that will be shipped like that.  Thinking about paper towels but have to check their prices against store prices as well as the sizes first.  The cottonelle has been a great deal so far. Though 29.00 seems like a lot, for what I am getting it really is a bargan around here.

As for food on amazon, the only thing so far I have gotten was B&B canned bread and name brand grapefruit in the can. Cannot find canned grapefruit in cans in stores since Farm Fresh closed it's doors. We don't get the canned bread very often. Just now and then when we want it with soup or something.

  10. I have not read anything as of late but my Bible. That is a daily read for me.  Has anyone read the book Lights out by David Crawford. That book was a wake up call. Very good read. There are many more I have read but can't think of them off top of head right now and youngest grandson just got here. He is spending the night and maybe tomorrow night as well. Going to help me around house and stay with his granddad while daughter and I do our yearly christmas shopping.

  11. Ambergris, Please be careful with that arm and I pray:pray: you don't have anymore seizures. Taking meds can be bad. I think a lot of DH's issues is the Eliquis blood thinner he is on.  I did the research and he has almost every side effect and then some. Just have to get him through this weeks line up of doctors and then off to heart doctor to get him off it. He can't just up and stop this one.  My gut feeling says I am right about this and I have everything to carry to doctor with me to prove it. So I might have to pay upwards of 600 to 800 dollars for 3 months supply of prodaxa, but so be it. He can't live like this because of these side effects. He is missurable. This might be the cause of his shortness of breath as well instead of conj. heart failure. That is one of the side effects. Please just keep him in prayer that we will get it figured out and on the right track to recovery.

  12. So glad to hear that things are looking up for all of you with so many health problems. Prayers anwered indeed.   I am now thinking that DH's issues is with his blood thinner.  They changed it about 8 months ago and it was after that he started going down hill. I did the research and sure enough he has almost every side effect coming and going right down to why his back has been breaking out with a rash.. So off to heart doctor as soon as we can get by this week of doctors.  Boy am I tired.   They got a clean marker for the basal cell cancer. So that is gone. So just has to heal now from where they took it out.

Everyone please try to stay well for rest of year and next year as well.  NO colds, flu, cancers or anyother disease that they try to throw at us. I think from reading everyones post we have all had enough illnesses and need a break.  As it is right now I pulled a muscle in my back helping DH get up out of his chair the other day as they told him he had to sleep with his head propped up. Our bed lifts up but that hurts his back so he decided to sleep in recliner. I slept on couch in den with him. His legs got weak in that chair after being in in all night and I had to lift him out of it. Once on feet he was ok but slow walking. But I have my heating pad and aleve. So it will be fine in a day or so.

  13. That chilli does look good.  I had not canned anything since Oct. but on Dec. first we had a good sell on sweet potatoes, so I canned 14 quarts and 8 pints.  That will now be it till after the first of year when I start to get everything out of freezer to can. I really want to get that freezer emptied.  Usually I would get it half empty and then fill it up again with a good sale on meat. This time I am not buying anything till I get the freezer emptied. Then I can start over again.

  14. I have heard about that. Seems children and teens are being hit the hardest.  We have had our flu injections but that doesn't always mean we still won't get it.  I don't let DH out of house much during this time. And if any of the kids are sick, they stay home. We cannot take any chances of DH getting the flu with all his heart issues and cronic sinus infections.

Jeepers from what you had been saying about your symtoms, it does sound like you may have had some forum of the flu. But so many different ones now it would be hard to say which one it was. Please take all precautiions so you don''t get any of the other strains. Use antibacteral wipes and hand lotion when you go to stores. I always take the wipes to wipe down the baskets as well. Better safe than sorry.

  15. Jeepers, sounds like you tried to do to much at one time. That was a bad situation. Take care and if need be get that checked out if it happens again. That was not normal from a virus like you had.  Please be careful.

I got all our Christmas decorations out today and got tree up. I over did it as my neck is killing me tonight. Took some aleve, so hoping that will kick in soon.  That plate in neck needs to be x-rayed again to make sure nothing has gotten out of wack. Might have to have it stretched again to realine it.  DH can not help me for a few days as he had that basal cell removed and is not allowed to bend over and must sleep with head elevated for 72 hours.  Then the bandage comes off and just wash it up with a mild soap like baby shampoo. Then leave it uncovered to heal.  He has had a hard time walking as his legs are getting worse. I am thinking of investing in a walker to help him get out of chairs. He can hold on to that and pull himself up. I had to pull him up this morning as he could barely stand. But once I got him on his feet he started standing ok.  Being a care giver is a hard job. But we have been down that road many times and we will get through this also. I think his back is getting worse.  Arthritis can be a bumber.

I also have made good use of cyber monday. Got a few Christmas gifts and today Wayfair had a great sell and my kitchen light over sink died. It was those tube type bulbs and I thought the balis was bad but the whole think is bad. That light is 50 years old. So doesn't surprise me.  I got a pendant light to go up there over ketchen sink.. it was regular $795.00 and I got it for $58.00. That was a steal.  It was on their clearence sale. So that is my Christmas gift to me. What can I say, I needed it anyway.

Yes, those instapots are great. Mine says I can make jams and can them. Haven't tried making jams in the instapot yet but might next year give it a try. Will have to pull out my instapot instructions on how to do it that way. Would be interesting.

  16. We's2 those jars of baked beans and ham looks good. I can't do the ham due to DH salt restriction.

Glad to see some of you are getting better.  Though Annarchy, please take care of that cold and hope it is not the flu.

We spent the whole morning in dermatolaist office.  DH had that skin cancer removed from his cheek. So now the healing begings. They got a clean marker. So that was good. No going back to redo it.

Was going to get the Christmas tree out of shed, but it is really cold with a wind gust. it will be closer to 60 tomorrow, so will do it then. Granddaughter came in from Maryland on a surprise visit since she could not be here for Thanksgiving. We had a great time. She decided to get me out of house for about an  hour.  So we went to fireflies and Dotson gift shops which are just down the road. We always liked to go look around at all the neat stuff they have there but Dotson is very expensive. But was fun just looking around and getting out for a bit.  I really don't like leaving DH for to long as his balance is getting worse.

Daughter and I are going Christmas shopping for the day on Monday and my grandson is going to stay with DH for the day. He did that last year and the two of them had a really good time. Though I will need to either make some type of snacks or buy something that grandson likes. Grandson is going to go buy chick fil lay for their lunch on that day. DH can have that as they will fix him up without all that salt. They will even fix him fries and not put salt on them. It is nice that chick fil lay will do that for him. Not many places that are fast food will.

  17. Mommato3boys, I am so glad all worked out and you are both cancer free.  DH and I spent all morning at dermatologist for his basal cell cancer to be removed.  They got a clean marker and all is well. He is to report back to his reg. doctor for a check but after what we found out when they removed the cancer cell is that it went all the way down his cheek. Reg. dermatologist never addressed this and froze the main part of it that did not work over a course of a year till I put my foot down and told him it's not healing and has gone beyond skin cancer.  So will be looking for new doctor for his skin check ups as he has skin cancer all up and down his arms and that doctor does nothing but freezes them. Time for a real doctor to check these skin cancers.

I do have to agree with the marrage vows.  8 years after DH and I were married he had a major stroke. It was an anurism that was there from birth that burst causing the stroke. The bad thing was it was at the base of the brain stem where they could do nothing. So he had a bleed out. Doctor said it was a deadly stroke but by the grace of God he survived it.  Had to learn to walk all over again as well as trying to get use of his hands back. He did well but never got his balance back. So we still struggle with that. 6 years later he had a major heart attack and was rushed from one hospital by amulance to another for major heart surgery. They split a vein at the first hosp. doing a cath. So off to the other on for 6 way bypass and repair of the torn artery. Now here we are with a pacemaker and defibulator.  But he is still with me and that is all that counts.  God always seems to get us through these tough times. Though it has changed our plans for things we wanted so much to do, the main thing is we are still together and it has now been almost 35 years of a wonderful marrage despite all these set backs.

mommato3boys,  God alway prevails when times are tough. Be it through sickness or health. The main thing is that you got though it also.  praise God for all of it. You are both cancer free.

  18. Dee, I also have noticed that about the meats. there have been many things that are almost out of date that they put on sale to get rid of.  Halve to be very careful when going to the stores now.  Also I need to check about the dollar tree stuff coming out of greenbrier as I haven't had a chance to do so with taking DH to so many doctors.  We spend from 7:30 till noon for him to have that basil cell removed. First come first serve basis. Never have we been to a doctor that did that. He was the surgon that was removing the cancer. Had to wait till after the checked to see if it was a clean marker. It took forever. Then had to go back in to be stitched up. So he is worn out.

The prices of food here is really going up and less and less product. I have been noticing this for awhile now. I am looking for other means on line to buy paper products that have not yet been reduced and hopefully still at a good price. Gas here is also going back up. I filled my tank up and the next day it jumped up another 7 cents. Not much but still it is not a good sign of things to come.

  19. Wow, that is expensive. I have seen prices like that in catalogs but not quite that high.  Usually they come frozen or overnight it. But no it will not be warm. You would have to heat everything up.

Jeepers, I really hope and pray you are feeling much better today.

Went to Church this morning but only stayed for Sunday school as DH was not feeling well when he got up this morning. So skipped the church service to be home with him.   I am the secratary of our Sunday school class and I have no one to back me any longer. So now have a class mate that is going to do it. Started teaching her how to do it this morning.  DH is feeling a bit better this evening though. Just hope he has a better day tomorrow.    So other that that I have had a quiet day today. Just taking care of DH and making sure he is drinking enough water. I think I finally got through to him that not drinking is messing up his kidneys though he is holding fluid. His body is deydrated and that is why his kidneys were trying to shut down. Doing better but labs next week will tell the tell.

  20. Hello ZZelle,  I think everyone goes through more stress at certain times than others, but with the Lord's help you will get through it and brighter days will be coming.  Keeping you in prayer for strengh to get through the rough patches.
