  1. Jeepers have a safe and fun trip.  Don't get to over tired.

Miki, sorry to hear you are having termite issues. I know how that is. Hope you got to them before causing to much damage.

Becca Anne, that is great news about the bad neighbors. Glad they could rescue the dog. If you can get that property that would be wonderful.  No neighbor on that side of you and a great place for a huge garden as well. Not to mention chickens.

Kappy hope  you can get rid of the varment issue. I'm dealing with rabbits.

Talked with my guy that cuts grass. He said if I get the traps to catch the rabbits live he will come and get them and take them to rehome for me. So going out within the next couple of days to get the traps. He told me who had them on sale.

Got the garden planted just in time for a nice soft rain. That will be better for them than me watering them. It was a good soaker rain so hoping to see some plants popping up soon.

Saw the house that GS is going to rent. I thought it was a duplex, nope it's a house and has at least 3 bedrooms. It was really nice. Looked like it had just been remodeled. With that he could have a couple of renters to help with expenses. It's a 2 story house.

  2. Garden is planted except for the okra which is going into the bed I am working on.  Now to just keep the rabbits out. Fencing is coming soon. I will figure out how to get it up with no help. Just hope it won't be to hard. Will try to bury it 6 inches deep as best I can and stretch it out to the poles. I have 3 areas I need to do that at. That will be an all day job for me trying to get that fence in and set strong enough to work.

  3. Worked in garden all day.  The big garden is now done. Just waiting for things to sprout now.  Planted green peppers, radishes, more squash, cucumbers,  and now I can't think of the other stuff. Guess I'm just tired. Still have okra to plant but in the other bed I am working on. Going to be working on the fence soon. One of my neighbors said if I trap the rabbits he would cook them. I have a better Idea. He can get the traps to catch them and still cook them. Don't think I can deal with traps.

GS was suppose to go look at an apartment in Norfolk today or so I thought. He is still in bed. Got up early and ordered a milkshake and sandwich from somewhere, drink the milkshake put sandwich in fridge and went back to bed. It is now going on 5pm so guess there was no apartment to be had. Told him I would take him apartment hunting today. Nope can't get out of bed. Guess the streets are calling his name.

  4. Jeepers have a fun and safe trip.

Didn't make it to Tractor Supply today but might be looking into a trap for the rabbits. Going to talk to someone about that when she gets back next week. Might be better to just rehome them. Getting to be to many of them now.

  5. I like both. Mysteries, cookbooks also. Though I did go through the cookbooks and sent a lot to the Goodwill. Part of the down sizing. But still have my favorites on those. And of course the Bible.  Reading through that again. for the 5th or 6th time straight through. I think revelation is what got me started in reading mystery books. To me that last chapter in the Bible is like a mystery. Daniel runs a very close behind on that. Love reading my garden books as well.  I have a few novels also that are waiting for me to pick up and read. Not sure what all those are yet as they are sitting in back bedroom still packed up from construction.  DD years ago gave me a huge box of books that was given to her many years ago. I think they are those love novels or something. I held on to them but never read any. Someone she knew would order from a book club and passed them on to her. So not sure yet if I would like that type of book or not.

  6. Looking like my carrots are just breaking ground now.  So in about 70 to 80 days I should be having carrots. Wonder if you could freeze or dehydrate the carrot tops for later use on things?  I have never tried it but next time I make broth I want to try some carrot tops in it.

  7. Went out early this morning to decide where I wanted to plant some other seeds. Rabbits are eating on my strawberry plants now and went back to eating on my squash plants. They are really getting to be a problem now. Might have to have traps set to get rid of them. The babies are cute running around chasing each other but not at the expense of my garden. Going later today to tractor supply to see about that fencing. They said it has to be buried 6 inches in ground which might be an issue for me to get done but I need to try and do the best I can. I sprayed the liquid rabbit fence down again this morning so hoping that will help for right now. Need to measure the strawberry area for the fencing as well now that I see they will eat the strawberry plants. That area is small so might not be as bad to fence in. To bad that won't protect the blueberries from the birds. Need to get the netting out again for that. Blueberries will be ready to pick in a couple of weeks.

Took one look at the kitchen this morning and just walked out the door to check garden. That boy made a huge mess in kitchen. Though I still have to deal with cleaning it up I am getting tired of waking up in morning to a dirty kitchen that was clean when I went to bed. But not much longer and he will be living on his own.

Found out a friend from my church that has had her son, his wife and their 2 children living with them for several years has finally moved out. She said she had enough and kicked them out. The found an apartment real fast. Said she did what I am about to do. The bedroom no longer has a bed in it. She took the bedroom suit out and put all her craft things in there and it setting it up for her crafts now. She said it is a deterrent to keep them out and on their own. I agree 100%. No guest bedrooms any longer.

  8. Sounds like you got a good deal Ambergris.

I was going to work in garden today but ended up doing other things. Needed to pick up RX's and did some grocery shopping. Got 2 packs of chicken thighs with 6 thighs in each pack for $1.35. I would have bought more but they only had 2 packs left. That was at Harris Teeter.  Then went to Food Lion and they had a manager's special on roast so got 2 of them for half price. Not much of a haul but much cheaper than paying regular price. Came home and put everything away and started going through some things for GS. Trying to get a few things together for him each day before his move end of month. He is looking at a place in Norfolk but is a bit far from where he works in downtown Suffolk. He doesn't seem to be trying to find a place in Suffolk. But then again maybe the further away he is from my house the better off I will be. But I would prefer he stay in Suffolk with that car of his. Not the best car for driving that distance to work everyday. On the way home I stopped at bank to pull out money. So got all the running around done today. Tomorrow will get back out and work on garden. I went out and watered everything a bit ago. Rabbits haven't messed with the squash anymore. Hope that will be a good sign. Might sit down and do some reading tonight. I'm a bit tired today for some reason. More than likely still not over the infection and still have that cough.  And speaking of cough, what is going on with cough syrup? Both stores I was in this morning had the cough syrup isles cleaned out.

  9. The beets look really great.  I am just waiting for GS to move end of month before I start up with canning again. Having to clean the kitchen every morning before I can start canning or doing anything is getting to be a hassle. But the end of month is coming soon. My work will be cut out for me once he is in his own place.

  10. All the food from everyone looks yummy.  Can't wait to get back into the canning business again. I will be going full steam ahead this year.

We are still having cool nights. So I have been opening the windows at night. Daytime is now in 70's and a couple of 80* days. Nights have been in the 50's with a couple of nights in the 60's.  Good sleeping weather.  Was going to work in garden early this morning but looks like we got rain last night. Gardens are all wet but should be dry enough in a couple of hours to work in. Hoping to finish up the planting today and tomorrow. Then I can move on to other things. I saw a site where they have fruit trees that you can plant in buckets. I think they called them patio trees but not sure. Going to check them out some more. That might work out for me for some of the trees I want.

  11. Ambergris, at least you can take your plants to the new home. That is great you can do that. I hope most everything you are taking will survive and you will have lots of fruit and veggies. Sounds like you already have a good start of fruit trees going there.

Dee, you are doing great on your garden. I am sure you will be able to keep it up. It's work but well worth the effort.

I am also doubling the size of my garden. Just not planting in front flower beds again. To many prying eyes for that one. But I still have lots of places to plant.  So far I am doing some new things that I have never planted before. Strawberries, cantaloupe, and watermelon. I just hope that all works out and I get fruit from them.  Not planting green beans as I still have an overabundance of them I canned last year. Green beans are the gift that keeps on giving. Planted yellow squash, pancake squash, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, bell peppers will be in ground today, okra, cucumbers, and eggplants so far.  I have sunflower seeds to plant but need to figure out where I want them soon.

Just going through all the posting that I missed and trying to catch up a little. I think I need that second cup of coffee.

  12. Midnightmom, she doesn't say anything about being under stress but she is looking for a better job as her DH got out of military on disability. He sits on his butt and won't go finish up with the VA for the disability stuff. And not looking for a job. He is not so disabled that he can't work. He just didn't like how things were going at Naval Hospital where he worked and so wanted out. Sleep apnea and something else but it worked and he got out.  She is now the sole breadwinner and  does everything at home as well. But she doesn't say anything other than her DH needs to get his butt from in front of computer and get things with VA done.

She goes to Naval hospital and she said it is getting better. It was a small patch on her back. But was able to still go to work.

Getting light outside now so just having a cup of coffee and going out in a little while to work in yard. Going to plant more veg. seeds and figure out where I want to plant the nasturtium seeds.  I need to put in a controlled area as GD said they can spread if you don't catch the seeds before they fall off. Might check shed for a very large pot to plant halfway in ground. That should help some but will still have to watch for seeds dropping on ground. But would be worth it as this is also a form of food that I can plant in front yard. To many neighbors coming up in yard last year checking out my veggie plants in front yard. Not doing that again. Already had one neighbor wanting to know when I am planting tomatoes and another come up in back yard checking out the large garden. I asked him if he was planting a garden and he said no as the neighbors around him give him veggies. In this day and age and WW3 about to start I wasn't sure how to take that.  Corner lots makes it hard to keep a garden hidden.  I don't mind sharing but a couple act like they are waiting for their handouts. Might have to start a small table to sell. I would call that seed money plus labor.

  13. Annarchy, that definitely sounded  like she was casing your house. I agree with Midnightmom. Time to figure out a better solution so that can't happen again. So sorry that happened and yes it does give you a bad feeling.

Kappy, Speaking as a medical assistant, those students were not suppose to touch you without the doctor there. So you were very much right to fire that doctor and get a new one. Just glad you were able to find a new doctor that quick. Hope you don't develop any issues from the rough handling.

Jeepers, seems you did get a lot done.  I did what you are doing. I bought new undies, bras and socks plus T shirts as well and I railly wash clothes more than once a month. Much easier that way and gives me more time for other things. Though lately working in garden I have been washing clothes about every 2 weeks. Don't want stains to stay in the clothes to point I can't get them out. So I treat the stains and then wash them in about 2 weeks. Hoping to get back to washing once every month soon. Other than sheets and towels I was those every 2 weeks anyway.  I will be switching out my winter clothes for summer clothes soon. Will be going through everything at that time to see what still fits and what can go. I've lost some weight and some of my clothes are to big. From there I will be able to see what I really need to replace.

Sort of took a small break today. Didn't do a lot in yard other than transplant my aloe vera plant into a pot for in the house. Cleaned kitchen, dusted bedroom, paid bills and listened to preaching. Haven't been in church since I got strep throat as the cough is still with me and it gets really bad at times. Just don't want to go to church and start up with a bad coughing spell and have to walk out of service to get water or something. It is getting better and the ear and neck glands are doing much better now. So hoping to get back in church soon. Seems I just stay sick ever since my GS moved in. He has a smokers cough or allergies now. He never washes his hands and just keeps spreading his germs. I am surprised I didn't get what he had a couple of months ago. Mono and bronchitis.

My oldest granddaughter in Washington has shingles. She is 31 years old and it seems you can now get shingles at earlier ages now. She had chicken pox really bad as a child.

Miki, you reminded me that I need to do some shoe shopping. Need a new pair of sandals. The ones I have are wearing out. Don't think they will make it through the summer months.

  14. Ambergris, your breakfast and lunch sounds good. I can't wait to get fresh tomatoes for a good ol tomato sandwich.

I need to go through my bug out bag but waiting till GS moves out. Don't want to set it by the garage door and it disappear thinking it was his clothes or something and get picked up by mistake.

Got all the strawberries planted and the cantaloupe also. Also got the last of the marigolds planted. Looking like rain now and getting cooler. So hoping if not to wet in the morning I can finish up on the larger garden and work on rabbit proofing. They said you have to bury the wire 6 inches in ground and 2 ft. high. Not sure if I can do that or not as I would not have any help for that. So will see if there are other options.

  15. Euphrasyne,  Hope you are feeling better.  Still praying for you and that things will be looking much brighter when you get back.

Didn't buy enough strawberry plants so went out this morning to buy more. So now have 10 more to plant. These were a bit more expensive but will produce for 2 or 3 years before I need to replant.  Also bought 4 pepper plants. I still have peppers in freezer so these should be enough for fresh peppers and for dehydrating. Also bought 2 cantaloupe plants. Have never planted these before either but hoping they will produce well.

Only one more garden patch to finish weeding out. Ran into a snag on that one as when the termite guys about 3 years ago put the wells in under the vents, they dropped a bag of rocks. instead of picking them up they covered them up in that area. So I am digging up rocks and getting them out so I can plant there. Didn't need that set back but it is what it is. Potato plants are doing well so far.

  16. Got the Blueberry plant I had to replace planted, strawberry plants and watermelon.  My challenge will be catching rabbits. I put down the liquid fence to keep them away and it rained so they got one squash plant and ate leaves off another.  Put the liquid fence down again but I think we will get rain either tonight or tomorrow. Subject to change for weather. I need to finish the planting but also need to get that fence around the garden areas. Not sure which way to go on that one fence first or finish the planting first. Need dry weather for the liquid fence to work.

  17. Euphrasyne, If I weren't so tired from working in the yard today, I would be doing the same thing.  I am beat and sore.

Blueberry bush is planted as well as strawberries and watermelon. Did some other things out there and the rabbit is happy. already got into my squash. That little varment needs to go somewhere else to eat. I haven't gotten the liquid fence down yet because of rain last night. But did get it on plants this morning. But I think it might rain either tonight or tomorrow. So will have to do it again and then get started on fencing. To tired to fight rabbits this summer.

  18. Euphrasyne, I know what you are talking about. I have some packed up somewhere but don't know what it is called either. I will look on the medical supply place I used to get things for DH at and see if they have it and will get you the info. I want to get some more of it anyway myself. Got mine through phy. therapy also. And it is great for gripping things.

  19. Was to wet to work the gardens this morning. But will be working on them in a little while. Going to plant the blueberry bush I had to replace and plant the strawberries. They are already getting up to a good size now. So need to get them in ground today. I am trying a watermelon plant also and will be getting that in ground as well. I hope I can grow one as this will be the first time growing watermelon. Cleaned kitchen this morning and washed 3 loads of clothes. Did some dusting and mopping as well. GS did help me weed out the flower bed where the blueberry bushes are though. At least that was something.

Euphrasyne, We have already gone through those apartments on that site. GS doesn't say much about it. He got up at 12:30 today but not really looking into apartments and he leaves at 3 to go to work. I really don't think he is looking and he knows his time here is short. Wondering if he thinks I am going to cave and let him stay. Nope not happening. I let his mother and him talk me into letting him stay till first of July so he can get car payed off and get a new one. That never happened either as he just lied about all of that to both his mother and me. So out he goes on street the end of the month if there is no apartment. He can get a hotel room or something. But not staying here for me to clean up behind him and destroying my property.

  20. Thanks for the reminder Becca Anne. I forgot about my pepper plants. I am going to do them in ground from seed this year. Just hope it's not too late for that. Otherwise I will just buy starters.  I have really had a rough time getting things planted this year but it is getting done.  Still have a lot to do.  The blueberry and strawberry plants will be planted tomorrow if we don't get rain. But they are calling for it and we got some rain this evening. So everything got a good watering tonight.

  21. I got the material together for the bathroom curtains and hoping to get those started within a couple of weeks. Plus I still need to get to that shed and get out all the material in there. I can't even remember what all is in there but that shed is full. After I get the bathroom curtains made and hung, I want to start some new projects but not sure what as of yet. Bathroom curtains I want to get done before canning season kicks in. That will keep me busy enough.

  22. Midnight mom, I think we could all find a tea shirt in that category. Those are so cute.  I was looking at the baby clothes in there and found a couple of things for the great grandbaby. I ordered those.

Kappy, I hope your next eye or laser surgery is a success. It's a lot of doctor visits but hopefully will pay off for much better eyesight.

Euphrasyne, That was a great haul. Good finds.

Jeepers, I had to read what you said about the insurance twice. I can't believe they never bothered to call you about the guy leaving the company. And all this time you have been waiting to get things done. That was just wrong. But hopefully now things will start moving along. I know you are really anxious to get the job finished and the house sold as quickly as possible.

Been working in yard for past 3 days.  potatoes are now in and working on planting the blueberry bush and strawberries. Think I found a place to plant the watermelon. Just hope that works out as I have never planted those before. First time for everything. After all that is done, I will see how much room I have to plant more seeds. Then I can rework my herb garden to work better for me.

Need to do a little shopping in the near future. The baby shower will be down the street from me in August and I need to get my plans together. I have somethings for her but going to see what else I want to do. She has a crib she got free from her best friend as she is expecting also and was given 3 brand new cribs from different family members.

Was helping GS find an apartment but it is not easy in his price range. But working on it. DD said maybe an in law suite or a room for rent. Nope nothing in that category. He wants to stay in the Suffolk area and there isn't a lot here to work with in his price range of $1200. For that price there should be something somewhere around here.  I am hoping to get him out of bed next Sat. and we going looking at what's out there. The internet isn't always the answer. Sometimes you just have to get out and look for one. Not even anything in the newspaper.
